Tell Kurt to drop the Single Motor Rule for P-5 class.

If the OPA is going to race in Key West with SBI, Then they should follow SBI Rules.

Stroker, how are you? You are 100% correct, now back to why this tread was started, everyone get your paperwork in, send your checks along with your paperwork, get your boat #, get your boats together and go out and have fun. SBI is not going to change their rules, like myself you'll just have to get Ryan Beckly to change your boat # at every SBI race, or maybe Ryan can make me a Velcro number 3 just for the SBI races.

Hey Jim, GREAT. Glad we could help you! Look foward to seeing you by Smitty's. Mike, I think when OPA goes to Key West we will be going under SBI's Flag which means by SBI Rules. Here in Jersey (OPA) Kevin and I are a P4 boat as well as APBA but in SBI we are a P3 boat, ya just gotta have a Velcro #. Mike, you've been doing great, keep everything positive...it will go a long way!. Iggy, get them in as soon as you can, thanks. Augie

Augie, Any chance in a one race special with OPA like APBA and SBI has. I would love to drag my boat up to Point and race with you guys. Pitman has also expressed interest and I am sure some others would come up as well.
I look foward to seeing you and the rest of the Jerzey Boys

Re: Attention OPA Racers

As the newly nominated "MR OFFSHORE" by one of my distinguished advirsaries :blaster: I'de like to comment, if I may.

SBI and APBA allow twin engine boats in P-5. And someday, if we are fortunate enough to run all sanctions together, it would be nice to have a somewhat universal set of rules. At least in P-class.

So, Kurt if your reading this, It would be great if you would consider this change.

Just my two cents..How bout a vote of current P-5 teams?

Lets not tarnish Augie's thread with infighting. there's plenty of that elsewhere :argue:

1waterboy1 05-19-2004 05:06 PM

Re: Attention OPA Racers

Not part of a current P5 team.....but I dont think it is a good idea to allow twin engine inboard boats in the class.APBA made this rule in an effort to enhance competition and make this class as entry level as possible....in 2002 there was a 38' Cigarette with big power "racing" in P5!But APBA always allowed twin outboard vees to compete in the class.

Twin engine inboard boats have an advantage over single engine inboard boats even if they have similar top speed capabilities...and this been proven over many races and many seasons. Most of the twin outboard boats are close in length and horsepower to most of the single engine inboard boats currently running in P5..and usually capable of similar speeds as well...so most would fall into P5...but maybe they should be considered on a case by case basis...Just my opinion.

Re: Attention OPA Racers

I'm confused, weren't you the same guys asking for no twin engines in P5? Personally I would have liked to have seen twin OBs and small blocks allowed, just no twin big blocks.

Don't blame this on Kurt, the racers asked for it and OPA listened. Now you want it changed?

BRUCE SEROFF 05-19-2004 08:25 PM

Re: Attention OPA Racers

Mr. Polli.

Im just sayin I dont have a problem witha Twin OB boat runnin P-5. Are the rules even published yet. I thought we were going to have another final meeting before the season started. So that everything could be finalized.

SHARKEY-IMAGES 05-19-2004 10:21 PM

Re: Attention OPA Racers

Since it has not been brought up, I guess I will.

Single Outboard Boats "SOBs" are to run under P-5 class rules at the rough water races.

Are you now saying that these guys would have to run against 29 foot twin engine boats to race in these races or will they be scored separately for SOB?

Also, as a suggestion with the OPA website. In regards to the SOB Class, could the Webmaster add a link to the SOB-Racing Website? S.O.B. Racing
The web design is already done for the class. There is little information on the current OPA site for the SOBs, and by adding a link it would give out plenty of information for the class. It is just a thought.
This class needs promotion by the organizations if they want people to be made aware of the "Entry Level Class"

Thanks!

Guys, we're OFF TRACK AGAIN!!!!!!!!!But just to bring you up to date, only ONE SOB is registered as of this past Saturday to race OPA 2004, it was put out on the table, we had our meeting, it was voted on and only ONE has registered! Kurt has enough on his table right now so I don't feel there will be any changes as of now. Now back to the thread, get your MONEY and PAPERWORK IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or I will have friends pay you a visit. Regards, Augie

Re: Attention OPA Racers

Oh Scotty, you just dug yourself a giant hole! Well at least I won't have to get the Boyz dirty. Just got off the phone with Kurt, here goes: OPA will run the same discounts that SBI is allowing.Single Race Entry is as follows, 50% off on equiptment (450.00 will be 225.00), 50% off Individual team membership, each person riding in the boat, (100.00 each will be 50.00 each), GPS fees for the year (150.00 will be 75.00). You will pay full price for the entry fee (500.00) as you are racing for prize money, the flag and trophy, but you WILL NOT get the National Points. This is a ONE TIME DEAL, if you decide to come back to race a second time in the season you will have to pay the FULL FEE'S, Equipment 450.00, Each Team Member(in boat only) 100.00 each, GPS 150.00 and entry fee 500.00. Hope this helps everyone out except you SCOTTY, there is no hope for you now if you choose to travel to Jersey! Keep our troops in your thoughts and prayers, they don't have a choice but be there! Augie

Augie,
Keep in mind that the 1st SOB race in OPA is not until that last week in August, which there is still has not been an announcement of where that race will be.
I don't know how many, if any, want to run with P-5 in the earlier races.
Hopefully some will. I think as time gets closer, you should see more people signing up.
I agree, the sooner the better.
I also think their should be more advertising of the class by the organizations that are putting it on if they really want these boats.
I have done just about all I could do.
I wish you all good luck with this new season...

Race on!!!

Sharkey...whats up with that??? You guys put so much effort into promoting... (pushing) the SOB class all winter long, including with APBA and SBI. Now, you guys dont plan on coming out to race until the Late August Race, which by the way, is No Longer in the schedule. Seems to me like all that winter Hype was just that.... "Hype". Where are all these teams??? OPA gave you guys everything you asked for, and you only have one Registered team. that bites. Why promote a class that has just a few boats?

Sorry, but I needed vent
