I will also be contacting the guys that confirmed they would be racing to see what is up with them. They may have only intended to race the SOB "ONLY" races... MD & Philly. Peconic, I never heard anything back from you guys? What's up? Will there be an official announcement? Also, Have you talked with Kirk Rogers? Is he ready? Intimidator is ready to take on the competition..... :) Will Wazzup Too be together soon??? We heard alot of talk over the winter. Let's go!!! Get them boats out there!!! :drink: |

Re: OPA Brick race, who's missing?
This will be in the local papers over the weekend.
============================================ OPA CONTINUES THE TRADITION BY BRINGING BOAT RACING BACK TO THE JERSEY SHORE FOR THE 36th YEAR IN A ROW Brick, NJ, June15, 2004 – The Offshore Performance Association (OPA) announced today that it will conduct an Offshore Powerboat Race in the waters off Point Pleasant Beach on Sunday June 27th 2004 at noon. This race will be the first stop on the OPA Northeast Tour. “Point Pleasant Beach is one of the most spectacular places to hold an offshore boat race” said Kurt Berger, the President of OPA. The boats run right along the shore between Jenkinsons and Bay Head. Excellent viewing is available right from the beach anywhere along the two-mile front stretch. On Saturday, June 26th the Dry Pits will be converted into a one-day festival of sights and sounds. Along with the race boats on display, many other vendors will be there to create a festive atmosphere with a live band playing in the background. Saturday’s Dry Pits will be held in the old Food Town parking lot across from the Pilot House Restaurant on Rt 70 West in Brick NJ. The Dry Pits will open at 9am and up to 35 race boats are expected to filter in throughout the day. In addition to the boats, many of the local businesses will be giving out free samples and demonstrations of their products. Local companies like Work-Out-World, MONOC Medical, Outback Steakhouse, Applebee’s/Chevy’s Mexican Grill, Best Buy, Subway, Three Bothers From Italy, Ocean Café and more will be in attendance. The highlight of the day will be the hourly thrill shows from “Hell on Wheels” daredevils and at 5pm, the girls from www.njbikiniteam.com will take on any and all contenders in a winner-take-all Bikini Contest. On Sunday (Race Day) the boats will launch at Sportsman’s Marina and then work their way up the Manasquan River to the ocean, in time for a 1pm start. According to Anthony Smith, Throttleman for Wazzup Racing “This is my favorite race of the year. Everyone’s all wound up with anticipation because it’s the first race of the year. When they let us run wide open out the inlet, WOW, what a rush. The Jersey Boyz racing teams will be out in force for this race, it should be a great event.” The boats will be broken down into five separate classes. P1 class has a top speed of 115 MPH, P2 Class tops out at 100MPH, P3 boats run at maximum of 90MPH, P4 Boats will only see 80MPH and the smallest boats P5 top out at 70MPH. Berger says; with only five classes of boats, we see greater competition and a larger number of boats per class. The great thing about this sort of speed bracket racing is that racers can build their own motors to any specs they want and we’ll fit them into one of the five classes.” On Race Day, most fans know to line the inlet walls to watch the boats come out of the inlet at full speed. “This is my favorite part of the show, watching the boats fly out of the inlet at full speed,” said longtime spectator Kevin Flurkey. After the boats come out of the inlet then it’s time to move down the beach to watch the race. The most northern turn is in front of Jenkinsons and the south end is near Bridge Ave in Bay Head. There is no admission to walk through the pit area on Saturday or watch the race on Sunday. This is a great way to spend the day at the Jersey Shore without the normal costs associated with attending a major sporting event. For additional information or you would like to race your boat, see www.offshoreperformanceassociation.com or contact Kurt Berger at 732-477-7400. Additionally, OPA is looking for volunteers to help with this race. Anyone with a boat between 20’ and 60’ are welcome to help. Please email [email protected] Ron Polli to volunteer. |
