37 and 39 gtx?

how many were there. does anyone have pics? what power was put in them?

OL40SVX 07-27-2010 03:14 PM

There were 3 37GTX's and 4 39GTX's.

The first had 525's that were then Whippled, then replaced with Merc 850's and #6's. This is Raymonds boat that was/is listed with Performance Boat Brokerage. The next was a 575 boat that was then changed to 750 cobras then to 1000 Chiefs all on Bravos. This boat has been repo'd 2 or 3 times in its life. It is now overseas I believe or in the Islands. The last is Carmine's red one with 575. This boat has been stock its whole life and if it comes for sale I would probably buy it since it is one of the best looking boats IMHO.

The first 39GTX has 525's and is for sale but the boat is located in Dubai. Then there is the Ilmore boat in the classifieds. Then Tom Buckles boat with the big power also for sale. Lastly there was Mike's Merc 850sci boat.

yesrej 07-27-2010 03:23 PM

thank you!! you have any pics? i havent seen the red 37. out of the 39s ive seen pics of mikes 850 boat and the ilmore boat.

High 90's. Could prob run 100 with Herings and great conditions.

Jupiter Sunsation 07-27-2010 08:19 PM

Do the drives hold up on the Ilmor boat?

Can the Indy drives be retro-fitted?

SLOWRIDE-388 07-27-2010 08:42 PM

Why so few of them made, they all are sweet rides. The paint on the one with 850s was unreal. The rest look really cool, just haven't seen them in person. Do really like the red one though. Is the 39 GTX the same hull as open cockpit? Just curious...

Carmine's boat rocks! He has tuned up the 575's a bit and the boat runs in the 105 range.

How well does the 39 with Illmores run?

drpete3 08-03-2010 02:48 PM

IS the one in the classifieds one of the OL that was sold about a year ago as a repo from national liquidators?

There was an OSO member that took a test ride in a year or two ago and posted a video. That thing was all over the place at speed- maybe some big drives would settle it down.

Yea I know MF's 39 with 850's and 6's was an awesome running boat so I figured the handling issue was the setup with bravo drives.

The boats can run with Bravos you just need some negative tab input to lock the boat in place and she'll run straight and fast!:D

Gary864 08-04-2010 10:46 AM

here is a link to a 39 Repo without power for someone. Not a GTX but could be a nice piece for someone in the market

So if you put some weight in the back of the boat, should it run better? It's a weight issue?

There's no weight problems. There are many reason why a number 6 is better than a Bravo and its not just for reliability issues. With the big drives it helps stable the boat running over 100mph.

boating37 08-04-2010 10:34 PM

Oh

pm203 08-06-2010 08:34 AM

The 37,s were a single step and ran well. The 39's are a handful at high speeds. I was advised against getting one.

animalhouse 08-06-2010 11:58 AM

The 39's run well at high speeds with some positive tab and the drives at or about neutral. There were some older 39's that had higher x dimensions, and required a bit more tab input, but with a 1/2" spacer installed, they were much more stable.

A lot of the issues with handling that people complained about were because they didn't run any tab and they had the drives over trimmed.

And what was the advice did they tell you buying a Gladiator???

I heard they roll over ALL the time!!!!

pm203 08-06-2010 07:51 PM

The Gladiator is driver error. The 39 GTX is a hull design error. But, don't feel bad, Cig had problems with their 42 X initially as well. Not every hull design is a winner.

animalhouse 08-06-2010 08:12 PM

Run one yourself and form an opinion, cause I have run several and if you know how to rub the boat, there are no issues, but I'll take your word for it cause you can tell alot about how a boat handles by talking to someone who heard that a boat runs poorly.

pm203 08-06-2010 08:16 PM

I heard that first hand from someone that owned one. There is no reason to be a smart about it. I wasn't told that it was a bad boat , but that OL had better choices. Whatever. No disrespect intended.

I posted that comment(the dad), I just thought it was funny because of ALL the "heat" we got when we bought our Gladiator...but after 100's of hours in the boat...it never went over!!!???....totally agree drivers have something to do with how both boats run...what I have come to learn..no high peformance boat is perfect..

I didn't mind your comment, it was Fred's I was talking about. But, you are right, no high performance boat is perfect. And by the way, both the 36 or 40 Ol are gonna be on my list to check out before I make my next purchase.
