My take on it was the odds and ends in need of repair would really add up quickly. The unknown condition of the power and drives could quickly swing a decent deal into being upside down really quickly. In my case I need an aluminum trailer, so that adds to the cost as well.
It's a sharp looking boat. At $80k it might be a good buy, or it maybe not be. If what everyone is saying that the boat wont sell for less that $100k or even $120k, I'd say best of luck finding a buyer.

It is a buyers market rite now but many are upsidedown on their boats so they cant sell for what the market is dictating. Its the same as the housing market. There are some real good deals and there are some that are still priced the same as they were in 2005.

$80k sounds like a deal, but IMO it was just the tip of the iceberg... And it doesn't sound like the seller would even sell it at $80k!

And if he turned down 100k he would have not sold it for 80k. I have won a few things on ebay with NO RESERVE and been told no deal after I won. The way I look at it if you got the balls to put it on without a reserve then sell it to who wins and start at $0 on the bidding. I hate the no reserve ad's that start over what it's allready worth, they should do like Barett Jackson and start where they feel is right then go down if no bids. Even if you have your buddy buy it to save the loss Ebay would still get there cut.

I agree, its bad enough to worry about "Schill" bidders, but, I get angry when you are the high bidder, or, in some cases the ONLY bidder and with a minute [or less] to go and the seller pulls the "no reserve" auction.
I also find a lot of sellers who make it a point to plaster "Must Sell, Gotta Go! No Reserve, Highest bid takes it" all over the ad, and then when you do your research you realize that the asking price is 10% higher than RETAIL.
On smaller items I find you really have to watch "shipping" charges, its another way sellers will "pad" the bill, I always make it a point to find out how much shipping is before I bid, prevents any suprises if you do win.
Back to the boat, it sounds like it COULD be a money pit, although I am suprised it didn't bring ANY bids? You would think someone [maybe a dealership/marina?] would think about buying it, cleaning it up and putting it for sale on there lot/internet for 20-30K more in the Spring. I wonder? Since Its a pretty limited market and Outerlimits are such a high end boat if most [or some?] of the potential buyers read this thread and shyed away from it. I know it was an eye opener for me.

Wholesale on that boat might be 40-50k. That would be the most a dealer would pay. Back in 07 I was offered 60k for a 98 Nortech 5000v that needed nothing from a dealer, and 120k from another. 200-250k is what it was worth on the retail market. That is why I now start my offers at half the asking price on boats that are listed at retail.

Lapse I like the way you think. I do the same my self people are off there rocker in what they believe somethign is worth 99% of them let feeling and sentimental value get in the way of true real world value.
