prop selection
1 Attachment(s)
I got the motor back in my 24 in time to run it Quite a bit saturday. it ran and sounded great! The mid-range was an
Extremely noticable increase, I ran it with a 25 tempest plus prop , and it consistantly ran 68 on GPS but I couldn't turn it but 4350-4400 rpm. The boat likes to run alot of trim when running it hard, it rooster tails pretty good, I would imagine the X is a little low. I am thinking about trying a 23 mirage. Would any of you experianced Pantera experts like to give a recomendation. Mirage , mirage plus , bravo , Hydro-motive ect. The motor should be making 450-475 hp. I posted a pic. because I know we all love pictures for some reason. Thanks Guys!!!!!! |
Re: prop selection
Did you dyno the motor? and know where peak HP is?
I'm running 560hp @ 5800, but spinning a 23P Mir+ at 5500-5600rpm @ 75mph. I'm gonna try a 22 B1 to get more rpms, plus I want to run a 4 blade. I hope to keep my top end, get a little better cruise and more all round stability. You should prop the boat to run at peak HP. |
Re: prop selection
peak hp should be around 5200-5300. No dyno Just pretty good knowladge & experiance.
|
Re: prop selection
Then you definitely want to run 5000-5200rpm top.
Test Test Test... just wish I had the time to. |
Re: prop selection
Don't we all wish we had the time, and for me the money to go along with the testing!! is your 23 mirage plus a stock prop or labbed? Let me know how that 22 4 blade works on your boat. thanks!

Re: prop selection
Its a stock 23 mir+ that came w/ the boat.
Will let you know how the B1s work. |
Re: prop selection
littldcsrodshop, How do you plan to use the boat mostly.? 2 adults or 4 or more mostl times? Rough water or calm with cruiser wakes? Any waterskiing or tubing? or just looking for the max top end? Are you using the TRS drive? I have tried many props and Bravo and TRS drives, There are many variables to consider. In general though I like the 3 blades on the TRS drive, to get similar top speeds with the 4 blade bravo1 it needs to be labbed in comparison to the stock Mirage or Hydro 3 blades. My personal favorite prop for that power range was the Hydromotive 3 Blade 24 pitch The 15.5 diameter really worked well on my boat I just outgrew it when I added power.

Re: prop selection
Usually 2 adults & small children. No tubing or anything, as far as water conditions goes it is usually calm with occasional chop & cruiser wakes. My holeshot is excellant now so that is
not an issue. When I run the boat hard I am usually by myself. How do the 15.5's react as compaired to the mirages, same pitch ect ? I think I would like the midrange of a 4 blade but I don't really want to sacrafice any top end speed. (just like everyone else) |
Re: prop selection
Oh yeah it is a TRS!!
|
Re: prop selection
Last year with the TRS drive I found the labbed bravo1 26 to run the same speeds as the stock mirage+25 at 3000rpm and 5200rpm so that cruise speed was identical. 3000rpms was 40.5mph with both props. The boat felt lighter with the mirage and more stable with the Bravo1. I think that you will probably like the mirage+ in a 23 pitch or the standard mirage which will give a few more rpm's

Re: prop selection
Tested a 23 mirage plus last night. I lost 4mph on top end, and midrange felt like it suffered also. I have come to the conclusion that I have a tach problem, and was turning my 25 a little harder than I thought. I calibrated my tach up against a digital snap-on timing light that I know to be accurate, however I only tested it up to around 3,500 or so rpm's.
I am thinking that my tach may have an issue in the higher rpm range. I am going to test it this weekend up to 5,200 or so. If I calculate the prop slip with either of the two props it comes out to less than 1% ( which I know cannot be correct) Which is part of what leads me to belive that I am turning more rpm's than I thought (which is a good problem to have!) I am thanful for guys like Ready2go, and Magnum27 that let me come down last night and try their props out, because I was about to just buy a 23 mirage, and I would have been a sick puppy if I had!! THANKS GUYS!!!! I am thinking more along the lines of a labbed 25 now, but I would still like to try a 4 blade. I should know a little more after the weekend. |
Re: prop selection
wow that is surprising -- i'm running a TRS drive as well -- labbed 25p mirage turned down to a 24 -- and i can only get 5000 rpms MAX.
I need to be at 5400 - 5600 -- i would think a 23p would be perfect for me I wonder why the differences? |
Re: prop selection
Just got home from the lake. I definatly had a tach problem
at 4,400 on my tach I am actually turning 4,800. With my 25 tempest plus It consistantly ran 68 on the GPS, the highest I seen was 68.2. Which at 4,800 RPM's puts my prop slip right at 10% . I would still like to try a couple more props, but as of now I think my best bet is going to be a labbed 25, and hope for around 5,100 or so. I am not for shure whether I would be best getting my 25 tempest+ labbed or going with a labbed mirage. I would really like to try a 25 mirage to see how it compares to my 25 tempest+. Has any one out there had any experiances with a labbed prop at these RPM & speed ranges ifso how much speed did you pick up,(I know most people advertise 2-3 mph) But what have you guys seen. If anyone has some props in my range that they would consider getting rid of please let me know. |
Re: prop selection
Anytime man, glad you figured out the tach problem. talk to you soon

Re: prop selection
I have a 24" pitch 15.5 diameter hydromotive 3 blade for $250 + shipping. It used to get me to 76gps at 5500+ rpms with the 500hp and 71 speedo with the 400hp at 4900, If you are interested. I think the shipping would be an additional $15 Chris

Re: prop selection
Thayes11, did you find the hydromotive to give too much sternlift?
|
Re: prop selection
I found that the TRS, Transmission and lower X made no measureable difference when I changed to bravo. But I have not completely dialed in the new setup yet.
