I've got most of the motor (540, cam by rmbuilder, should be about 625-650ish) together. still lack the accessories and the plumbing.
I also got most of my a-frame for my electric hoist put together today. |

the hoist is done now...
the 2x4s at the bottom are just to square it up while I was standing it up. I'll take the front one off to back the boat under. |

Re: progress on my 28
Are those back to back 2 x 10's? You think thats enough for a full dress engine? I figure 1100 to 1200# for a full dress. I'm actually using the same hoist in my "New" 25' x 46' garage that came with a rental house I now own.
I was going to use a 4" beam and trolley for pulling the engine. Am planning on bolting the steel beam to (4) 2 x 10's |

Yes, it's 2-2x10s. I won't have the exhaust manifolds on when I do it. When I bought the motor, I had it shipped by Forward Air and in the crate it weighed 860. the crate was probably about 70lbs, so just the motor is less than 800lbs. I had an engineer at work check out my drawing. I was worried about the span (the 2x10s are 12' wide). It's supported at about 11', so the span is actually about 10'6", but the braces (the 4-2x6s that angle to the legs) make the span distance 2' by spreading the load. I'm personally no engineer, but he said that it would work. Of course, I plan to be extremely careful testing it out, raising/lowering a couple of times before I put the boat or anybody under it. I can just imagine dropping a 800lb motor into the bilge from 9 feet. |
