Prop for a 24
 

Ive been trying to get this boat in the water for more than two years and finally getting close. I hope to brake in the engine this month but need a prop not sure what one to buy. 454 around 500 hp. Bravo one drive. 24 Pantera.

Probably a 25P or possibly 27P Mirage Plus.

What drive height are you running? What is the target RPM's? I also have a few for sale that worked well on my 24. Chris

What year is the boat ? & did it come from the factory with a bravo , or is it a converted TRS boat ? Because what Ironman said about drive height is crutial. If the boat left the factory with a bravo on it & the drive height hasn't been messed with I can asure that it is right , because Pepe & Jo know there stuff ! Also how shure are you of your 500 hp # ?
If you are not for shure , Either Post your motor combo or send me a P.M. with the combo including parts such as heads, compression ratio, camshaft, intake & carb, ect.. Also what exhaust you will be running.

Thanks for getting back to me I asked if you had a web sight because it did not come up on my computer but it did on my fathers that I thought was weird maybe because I'm using firefox. I need to get all my info together about the boat I'm hopeing to make this a one shot deal If that is possible. I thought there would be one prop that would work the best for a 24 with my hp.

I need to get more info together but I do know the boat is a 1980 24 Pantera that has two fuel tanks in it. I cut the hole in the back of the boat for a Bravo one it had a trs in it. I think the center line of the crank was 17" from the bottom of the hull. I got the number from one of the guys from Pantera a couple of years ago. The motor is a 454 board out 60 JE racing pistons 9:50 1 merlin heads with those good vales that I cant spell some thing like ekino. air gap intake roller rocker's, 1" spacer, Bary Grant 750 mechanical carb. exhaust is stainless Marine 4". and Crane cam.

I personally would start with a 25 pitch mirage, although I ran a 25 tempest on my 24 that ran well. They are mainly used on bass boats. They have a lot of rake which gave me a lot of bow lift & made it a handfull to drive but it worked well on my particular boat.
My boat was a 79 & I was still running a TRS so I had a little more weight & was being robed a little power by the TRS over a bravo. Also I am shure my drive was a little deeper in the water.
Motor was basicly the same with the exception of the heads. Cam size, my compression was about 9.6:1 , rockers , lightning headers, 750 carb , intake was a performer 2.0 ect..... I was running a set of 049 oval port heads that I done some portwork on ( nothing exotic.) I was probably making around 475 hp
My boat consistantly ran right around 69.5 - 70 on the GPS
( not the speedo ) With only around 9% prop slip That was running the boat really hard with alot of trim , Which is how my particular boat ran the fastest , which along with a high rake prop. was the ONLY reason it was a handfull to drive. You should be making a little more H.P. than me due to the heads. I really needed to turn mine a little harder to get a few hundred rpms out of it such as a 23-24, 0r labbed my 25. but you should pull the 25 fine due to the fact that you should have that extra little H.P. & less drag from the bravo
Like I said my recomendation & its only a recomendation based on the info given would be to start with a regular 25 Mirage.

Sorry I took so long to get back. I don't what the boat to be hard to handle because this is my first boat. And do you recommend on buying a new prop or used for the first one ? One more thing What about a Bravo one?
