Ask Jo,
Pretty sure its the same boat as one I shopped 3.5 yrs ago. It had 310 454's, 4 huge batteries under the seat and an AC system for the cabin- all installed at Pantera. Originally owned by a younger guy in WPalm Bch- he overnighted a bunch and racked up some hours- I'm thinking it had close to 600 but It could've been less. Had some huge holes in the cabin where I'm guessing a stereio or Tv used to be??. I actually spoke to the owner's dad who confirmed JR was selling to settle down etc.

35k would've bought it then- was at a So Fl broker with no trailer.

Good luck

Yup,

Pretty sure it is the same boat that used to hang at peanut with us, it needed a good buffing, and supposedly had been to the Bahamas a bunch of times.

Catitude,

Why did you not buy it? What didn't you like about it.

I checked this boat out. Gauges said 174 hours. We ran a DDT on one engine and it said 250 hours. I really like the boat, but nobody at the dealership is fessing up to any informatiion.

I boat on Lake Texoma only; what kind of problems do you think I would run into with a boat like this. Meaning one that has been driven hard in the Ocean. I believe that this boat has been sitting in Dallas for around three years now with little or no use. The dealership said that they ran it recently and that it ran good. There is a good looking 1987 that has been nicely restored in the OSO classifieds and its not too far away. What kind of Pro's/Con's do you think the well taken care of 1987 has over the salt water/abused 1999?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh ya, first post!

The ad said twin 350's, but I don't recall ever seeing a 28 with twin small blocks. Probably 454's huh?

Its got 454's. I saw them last weekend. The 350's was what originally turned me on to this boat. I like the reliability, low maintainance, low gas cost, and easier to work on. You should have seen the guys faces when they lifted the hatch. Other than the lack of information, I've got respect for the dealer. It was about 38 and pooring ran; they pulled the boat into the shop soaking wet, and pulled me up a ladder.

Judging by the appearance and the 02 Georgia registration, I think it may have just been sitting for a couple of years.

Does anybody know of any immediate concerns on a boat that has been sitting for say three years. I'm planning on takeing it for a test drive and have a mechanical survey done. Any tips on what to look for? I'm not a mechanical guru, I just like to turn the key and go. Does anybody know of a mechanical guru/powerboater around Dallas that may want to join me in a test drive?

The boat had potential but was more of a project than I wanted to take on. All that time in salt water and 310's to start with I considered it a faded hull/interior with well used drives.

The hour meter and ecu may read xxx hours but it's not in line with what I looked at- the fact that they don't match by such a large margin should tell you something. could do a compression or leak down test- pressurize the water system???

I'm sure the hull is solid- but the rest?? 50k? don't think so.

The guy's dad did say he partied a lot on the boat and went to the bahamas a lot- said he loved the boat but the condition told me he loved the boat life more than taking care of it.

Edit- this was the condition of the boat as represented to me 3.5 yrs ago- somebody did pony for a trailer- there could be other improvements made too- but I'd check it out thoroughly

First, you want to get a leak down on both motors, second look at the springs for condensation. If the boat has been sitting for a long time, 3 years, and both motors have`nt been started in that period of time, I would be very carefull in running the boat without proper inspection in the valve train and cylinders.
