Default Prop Choices

Ok, I know its not a Pantera but its pretty similar. We have a 27 Avanti with a custom built 525 in it (496 Cube, Accel DFI etc). It has a pretty good hook, strakes that suck the hull to the water and has no bowlift. Before we make our changes to the hull, we figured we would play with props for a little bit. We are running a 28 B1 now an are getting about 5000 out of it a 65 mph. We need to turn about 54-5500. We tried a 25 maximus but it wasnt much better. What prop do you guys run on your 28s?
Thanks, Johnny

Try a 26B1 - If that doesnt work too well, try getting a spacer and dropping the drive . Your prop slip is about 25% , and should be around 12-14 .
With the X dimension too high , you wont be able to carry the bow .

do you know the X . Do you know how far the prop shaft is below the keel ? Measure it and let us know .

Try a 26B1 and a 27 Mir+.
see how the rpms and the boat reacts.

and if jerry's slip calc is correct, that is quite high.

Sounds like my boat. Griff put in a 3" spacer and it runs a touched up 26P B1. Runs good and pulls up to about 5300.

It has a 1" spacer and is in the water quite a bit. We just want to get a couple more MPH out of her before we make some serious changes.

Also, it has a notched transom, and came from the the factory with a 2" spacer. I switched to the 3" spacer and the propshaft is 4.25-4.5 inches below the bottom.

I am familiar with the 27 Avanti. You need to take the hook out, period.

Hooks out. Still only spinning the 26 4650 at 67MPH.
We have a bigger motor going in soon though.

It makes no sense that you could spin the 28 at 5000 and now only spin the 26 at 4650. Have you tried any Mirage Props? They typically work well on the 7' beam boats if your drive height will allow it.

Sounds like the hook in the bottom had a lot to do with it. The hook will push the bow down and potentially lift the rear which can cause the prop to slip more.

Does the bow seem to carry better now? You're now at about a 12% slip which is pretty good especially with a bravo. I would try a Mirage too, just to see if there's a difference. Maybe try to find a regular ol' 25 Mirage and see what it does.
