My boat budget just took a huge hit and I'm pissed. So that one in MD and the 24 SE's are starting to look pretty good. The 24 SE with twin outboards looks brand new. I don't care for a blower engine unless its a Merc setup. It also looks like there is a lot less cockpit space in the race setup. As for the cabin - yah you don't spend much time down there, but in the TX heat - its nice to be able to get out of the sun for just a little while. I would also like to travel and overnight and maybe a little "rockin the boat" if you know what I mean.

All of the ones that I have seen with a half cabin had more than enough room for two adults beamwise. Those over 6' might not see the the same way.
My boat has more room that way than my 24SE had with the pleasure cabin. |

You would think that with as many people looking for 28s that one in RI (http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/0/9/89638909.htm) and the one in MD (http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/7/5/87507875.htm) would alredy be gone. The prices don't seem way too high. I know they don't have typical pleasure setups, but really how much time do people spend below decks? Both of them have a cabin of some sort and seats can be modified for a few thousand dollars. Well now that I look at that one in RI, it's a little more than I remembered...
What's keeping people from buying them? What is it, the blower motors? And that one in IL (http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/6/3/88945463.htm). I wonder if they would sell it without the motor? That boat is less than 1/2 what a new one is... |

Pantera
Hey Brad, I know where there is a 1979 24'. email me at [email protected]
|
Thank you every one for keeping an eye out there but I will be out of the market for a boat for a while, my budget has taken a hit, I will be going back to school this fall so I will have to use the money for a boat to pay for school. But when I am done ( about 2 yrs) I will be able to step up to a 28 so I guess it will work out for the best. I hope everyone is enjoying the boating season....best whishes----Brad

No problem B251 - you aren't the only one looking.
Here is one I found on Ebay - whats up with all the red 24 pantera's for sale? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/24FT-...QQcmdZViewItem |

Definitely a buyers market right now for Pantera's or all boats for that matter.

My Dad had a 1980 24' Excalibur.
With a 400HP/454 TRS she ran low 70s. I'm guessing your boat will weigh around 3500lbs dry. Set the prop 4-1/2" to 5" below the bottom. With 525HP, she should run in the high 70s to low 80s. |
Anyone know the wear abouts of two 28 Panteras, one was a 1999 called Uncivilized bought in Port Clinton Ohio a few years ago. I think it went towards Maryland. The other was bought on ebay from the Cleveland Ohio area. It was named Water Heater and before that was at National Marine. I think that it was a 1982.
|
I found this 28 Pantera (I think) for $25K
http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...QAdIdZ24534338 I've never seen one with a teak deck like that. |
Looks like one to me... And a bargain at half the price... :D
|
i think thats canadian $.
See if $15k us will do it. a little paint, update(all white), bbc rebuild, maybe bravos or even konrads. Put 30-40k into it. Ditch the teak on the bow though. |
I like the teak:D What year do you guys think this boat is?
|
you might have to bust out the ol' carbon dating kit:D
|
'78 / '79 ish I'd guess. I think that was around that time that they started building the 28.
Carbon dating! :D |
Contrary to popular belief that boat would look sweet in the right hands... Teak included....
I know a certain Nunez that would love to see that boat brought back to its glory...:cool-smiley-011: |

I wonder of JO can put a teak deck or flooring on the new panteras or on an existing pantera.
|
Sure he can, but it will raise your floor height by that much.
Tex, what happen to the apache? |

I am getting ready to do some work on a buddys flat bottom Rayson Craft V-drive that most of the upper deck has been cut out & a wood deck has been installed , all book mapped. The boat originally came out with the glass deck but they offered it in a wood deck & that is what he wanted. It is a late 60's model boat & it will be sweet when it is finished !! He has owned this boat since I was a kid & he has quite a few other classics to go along with it. I think he has 4 Rayson Craft V-drives , & a really cool 18 donzi V-drive with a Holman Moody Ford in it & a few other toys. |
I dig the old Panteras. Very classic look. I was just saying that $30k seemed a bit silly for that boat (funny, I grew up on the border and forgot all about the exchange rate!).
I think that one of the potential "next generation" Panteras may have a wood floor... |
DS, I know we all dig chicks w/ wood flooring. :D

Thanks for asking..........just got word that my deposit check got there first. So right now the sale is pending survey. I'm really excited. Its hillirous how many post I read that said that boat was sold already. I guess this one was just meant to be (knock on wood). I guess my dreams of owning a 28 pantera will just have to wait for 5-10 years. I'll keep you updated.
Glad to hear you are pulling off a deal ( survey pending ), I hope all goes well for you ! I know you have been looking hard & must be excited.. I know you have been looking at Pantera's & Saber's both but I guess if you arn't going to buy one of those it might as well be an Apache.. All great boats in my opinion & you couldn't go wrong with any of them if you buy smart. I'm sure you will still be on this board from time to time as some of us other guys are...:p Wish you the best ! |
|
Anyone know anything about that 28 Pantera in Canada listed above? Is it still available?
|
Where are all the early 1980 28 Panteras at? You never see any for sale.

like this one? :D
Mine is a 1986 |
Wow - I was watching that boat on youtube last night. Awesome boat, I had no idea it was a 1986.
Bigboat28 - be patient, there will be another one. Last year a 1981 sold for $25K and it had new Bravo ITS's and twin small blocks. Another 1987 sold for $29K with brand new bravos and twin big blocks. 28 apache update - Owner just finished a minor repair and the testdrive is scheduled for Wednesday. If all goes well it will be mine by next weekend. |
Texoma are you buying the white 28 Apache with the arrows in the classifieds?
