I was out testing the other day and ran into our customer with the twin small blocks ( 6.2 MPI Mercs. ) and snapped a picture. I thought you all would like to see it. He lives in Mexico and visits Miami every few months and enjoys his Pantera 28' with his family.

Hey Jo,

that boat looks great ! I have been meening to contact you & seen these pics & thought I would just ask you here :
What do you usually set the X-dim at on the twins ? Esp. the small blocks ? & what is the normal prop slip ?

The prop slip on my 28 Small block was Really low !
I have the measurements of of mine & I was curious what you usually set them at since you guys didn't do the rigging on my boat due to it being a re-power.

Talk to you later , Scott

Jo, i think i've asked you before.
Is there any room to do a short stagger on a twin sbc boat?
Could you squeeze a six pack cockpit? or only a 3man.
With a pair of 500-550hp sbc's w/ XRs, you should have an easy 90mph boat that's very reliable and worrying about the drives.

It can be done with a modification to the rear bulkhead. Back in the early 90s we were planning on building a B-class 28' race boat with full staggered small blocks with bravo 1 drives and even put the drawings together for it. A short stagger would not be a problem since there is plenty of room in the engine compartment with this set up.

heres an old thread from years ago...
Jo, how much room is needed for a short stagger? and are you sacrificing a lot of cockpit space on a short stagger vs. the full?

Since it's an older thread...maybe he's ready to sell it???

:evilb: :evilb:

Pretty boat. Always like the thought of twin small blocks in the 28 too.

With the new stepped hull what kinda speed would you estaimate with the..

320HP 6.2s
400HP 6.2S

The 400 HP are Mercury remain.

Thanks

mast performance

If you are going to use small blocks Mast performance builds some 600 hp ls motors and the two together dont even weigh 1200 lbs

These? never seen a Marine engine with the oil filter on the bottom before.Anyone ever put these in a boat thats run like what we do to them. Not some ski boat

mast engines

Well true enough they are a new product. But from enough research the ls engines are amazing for the power they produce for what they are

I agree. "Front Mounted Oil Filter for Easy Maintenance".

Nice looking package though and as stated the LS is a great platform.

displacement

There used to be a saying of ( no replacement for displacement) but now that the ls engines hit the market and were being hot rodded that term is now questionable. And even more so with turbos or superchargers added to them producing 1000+hp on pump gas. Sorry for the ford fans I just like chevys but truth be known if you have enough money you can make whatever happen that you want to happen

I think the 28 is better balanced with twin small blocks, rather than twim B/B.Still not sure what I want as my next boat was thinking 36 but all the ramps by me are short and at low tide are going to be a problem for a 36.

Would like to see a speed estimate with twin S/B and the stepped hull.I local guy put the 400hp 383s in a 292 and saw 80 so I would think that the Pantera would see low 80s

B.A. 08-09-2011 09:59 PM

ramp

I dont have problem with ramp i just need to get a trackhoe with swamp tracks to make slu deep enough at low tide. But I could go down the road to next public ramp or just better yet go to lake martin(party waters) and just hang there for a weekend. But all I can do now is work until I can get another boat and the only one it will be is a PANTERA
