What do you have for props?
I suggest you try a 26p B1 or 25p Rev4.
With that engine revving 5600rpm, you'll be running 80+.

Dave M. has a 496HO in his 1998 24' Super and sees 78mph @ 5000rpm with a 28p B1.

I am still running my BBlades labbed 25P Mirage Plus. I tried a 24P Bravo One early this season, and the boat handled awful! Unexpected hard right turn on throttle back. It was dangerous. I'm not sure I'm set up well for a 4 blade. X-Dimension differences maybe?

Sorry for jumpin on your Pantera thread Rob! There might be some good info from us Super boys though!:D

If you like the handling with the 3 blade, start with that. I'm thinking your going to need to spin that engine up to 5500-5600 to get 525HP.
I'm not sure why the B1 didn't work for you. Sean ran a 26pB1 on your boat years back.
Let's start a thread over at the Superboat Forum. Dave M's boat should be set up the same as yours and he'll have some good input.

No worries, I need all of the help I can get... even if its from a jay-squawk... :D

Now back to Pantera's... and/or Super, Monza, etc...

robltc 09-13-2007 12:44 PM

Sounds like Supers reach 80 relatively easy... i.e. </= 550 hp
I saw on the SB thread a mention of chine walk past 80 in there SB 24', is there something I need to be aware of with an '80 Pantera at 75-80 range?? I'm ball-sy but not stupid...

You guys that run 80+ in your 24 Pantera's any issues, ...fairly smooth/safe ride in light chop, 1-2'?

Jay, I tried a box stock Bravo on my Pantera and hated it as well! Threw the boat all over the place. I now run a Rev4 and it handles great. My Mirage is still the fastest prop but blows out easily.

However Pat swears by his Bblades modified Bravo. As do a few others.

No worries mate, just giving a little back.
I can be a little sensitive from what my wife tells me...

As for why a 24' Pantera is a little slower, I'm not sure.
They do weight a little more, but not as much as some say.
My 1989 Pantera sport was within 100lbs of my 1997 Super. I weighed them both at the same scale on vary similar trailers.

Carm,

Can you send pics of the hatch? I'm replacing mine and I like yours. Where do I get one like that?

Thanks,
Troy

BTW, looks fast even on the trailer...

Doesn't look like too bad of a buy, I'll probably have close to that wrapped up in mine for sure... but long story short, I'm a Pantera fan. I don't have a witty reason for liking Pantera's over anything else...

Nothing wrong with the Baja's, good boats, but you can't swing a dead cat around here without hitting a Baja. I have one of the few Pantera's around the area and had to ship it from Boston to get one.

I may be a bit crazy but I also like the 7ft beam on the Pantera's too.

I saw on another thread a 24 Baja Outlaw that ran 96 mph with 980 hp for sale also $41k...

Let me rephrase that, my area doesn't have many fast boats either, a few jet boats and a few Baja's. Buddy of mine has a 29 Outlaw 99, (I think its a 99), so I just wanted to be different.

drpete3 09-19-2007 05:48 PM

Ill keep reading because this engine building stuff is very interesting to me.

Not the same as a Pantera. I haven't even run mine yet, but since the motor has been out, I've been crawling around the bilge, and Baja isn't even in the same league. I've owned a Baja, and just looking at the glasswork you can see and tell the difference.

And yeah, I also wanted something different. (although there are 2 28's running in my area one white, one black both with the cat-eye mid-ship).

Having an old-school classic boat is what I was after. I was kinda split between a Magnum, and a Pantera for a little while. I just love the classic look.
And, anyone that actually knows anything about performance boats and the history will know right away what your rolling in with.

Yep, agreed. I too was looking a Magnum, Sutphen, and of course Pantera... I like the old school race boat look... but I also don't have a lot of money to throw around on a hobbie at the moment either. I feel pretty lucky to have the boat I got now. Lots of potential.

Damn good looking boat in my opinion! I like that hatch. I was hoping you bought that somewhere. I need a new one for mine and I really like the hood scooped hatches. ...I don't know crap about fiberglass...

Your boat is pretty much the direction I want to go with mine.

I'm with you guys. I'm looking at Mag, Pantera and Sutphens too. Have a line on a 24 Pantera. The old A-34 boat, race hull (five bulkheads no v-berth), three man bolster center steer. Purple and yellow color. Has "ThunderStruck" on the side. An old highschool buddy owns it. Haven't talked to him in a while and when I did here was the boat for sale. Can anyone tell me about this boat? 468 bbc dynoed 627 hp and 557 ft/lbs. It has MER performance on the engine race hatch. I'd throw up some pics but can't get them from my email to this thread for some reason. Computer illiterate!:D Going to look at the boat this weekend. i'll try to take the camera.

Post pics when you get 'em.
You've got three good choices listed up there, but they can all be hard to find.
I fell in love with my 24' Pantera by the time I got it home. I actually watched it change hands twice on this board before I got my hands on it. I'm doing a lot of work to it right now, but I'm loving it. Not that it was in bad shape when I bought it, I just wanted to make it a little better.

bouyhunter 09-21-2007 05:07 PM

Carm - I've always loved the pic's of your boat, if you recall, I'm the guy that pm'ed you asking for pictures and more info on it just because I was putting that on my list of boats to look for.
I never saw the pics of the hatch before. Very Cool! Nice job.

MER is Mark Rinda out of South Carolina. Very good engine builder. If he did the motor or work on the boat, it's solid.

Any of you 24 guys looking for a great prop for big HP. My 24 ran a 29P Mirage (not plus) at 92 MPH with the previous owner and 89 MPH with me. It's for sale and mint!!

I'm guessing with that much HP you're gonna hit a wall. You'll reach the limit of the boat's capability before you run out of horsepower.

I would also be absolutely positive in the structural integrity of your hull, before I placed 1000 HP in it.

Good luck. :ernaehrung004:

td2903 10-02-2007 10:30 PM

yes i do agree while the hull looks sound even @ 1000 hp its going to be a hell of a ride i am in the process of detuning.but i am a new patera owner not an idiot(while i do have hp and drives to play with) if my ole lady cant use the boat might as well take the cats out.
