Jo has told us that the fastest he's had a 24' to was just over 100mph with 900HP...
There are a couple of 24' Supers that have cracked 100mph as well.
Not me, no way...

pantera232 06-14-2011 09:45 PM

How many hp is a 462 ci, with .6 lift bob m cam, sm exhaust, and 781 heads, with small domed pistons, approx 9.1 compression..

cdail28590 06-15-2011 11:08 AM

That motor should make about 450hp and 5oo ft lbs of torque. Almost identical to my motor I built and dynoed over the winter.

pantera232 06-15-2011 07:57 PM

Cdail28590 what boat are u running it in? Im going to test mine over the next couple of days, i was running it before but with a total timing of 26 degrees, bc distributer was broken, now i have the new one in there and i am getting 34 total timing, what made me nervous before is she was only pulling 5000 rpm, which was damn near where my old setup ran, with the old prop the new motor was doing the same top speed, but again i had bad timing problem so well see.. How fast do you thing this motor well push my 89 pantera?

panteraman28 06-15-2011 10:31 PM

I had a blue and white 24 with an 800hp blower motor in it and ran 92mph, before I owned the black 28, it was a blast and very stable. Took it to Lake Erie numurous times and would run 4 to 5's with no problems. But be warned the 24 is a drivers boat very sensitive to all types of input due to the narrow beam, Jeff

Adam,

Like we have talked, it is going to be tough to get that boat going past 70, takes a ton of power to break that barrier. We will be racing Sunny Isles(north Miami) this weekend with theh 38 Formula, stop by and see us.

I hit 64mph at 5000rpm today, I need a bigger prop I think a 23plus or a 25, any thoughts?? Rick which day sat or sun

I'll be in the pits sat. and Sunday, race is Sunday, supposed to be flat, Ray may bring the Cat down, but I am stuck on land being trailer ***** for the team. Which prop did you get, the 23? maybe have some cup added back in, that prop was labbed, The 23 plus probably wont get you any speed. I do have access to the 24 4 blade offshore(On Mikes boat right now) that you could borrow to try, but that prop was labbed also, so who knows what it really is??

My boat is a 24 PYthon. I ran 37 degrees total timing on the dyno but I made the mistake of having it to high when running it. It was at 39 degrees and dropped a valve seat so now I am building another motor. I haven't ran my boat since I got it with the motor tuned right but it should be a 74-76 mph boat with the 500 hp motor I am building now.

pantera232 06-17-2011 07:37 PM

awe too late i won a bid on ebay for a 23plus mirage..
Ill try it i can always put back on ebay after testing it, i figured it would have more pitch, maybe i should get a 25...?

Cdail. a python is a lighter boat if im not mistaking, and like you said 450hp, i was told around 500 hp from bob.

I just figure i can push more prop since im still at 5000 rpm

scarab63 06-17-2011 09:08 PM

What y'all think ill see for MPH with this?

24' racer
525 SC motor
Bravo 1.5:1 dwp with raised X on transom

Should see mid to upper 70's ? Right?

OCCJoe 06-17-2011 09:20 PM

In my 24 Pantera I did 85mph GPS with 565hp, poor X , 8" below pad , no tabs on boat and did this number every time I went out .. Put the tabs on the boat but did not use and lost 3mph

Why u fig loss of 3 with tabs? Running em tucked up? Just due to extra wetted surface area-drag?

cdail28590 06-18-2011 11:09 AM

Bob told me mine should be around 500 also. I wasn't real impressed with the dyno shop and how they dynoed the motor and I don't think the numbers are 100% accurate as far as the hp and torque goes. That motor had stock oval port heads and my new motor will have Merlin 320 cc Rect. port heads so I am hoping for 500-550but I am not going to dyno this one.

pantera232 06-18-2011 02:33 PM

Where did you set his cam at? 0? I have the larger oval head 781 did you have peanut heads?

Guess no one has opinion on prop size....

Ya 450 sounds more like it, to be honest i changed heads, bob m cam, air gap intake, original 750 carb, the motor felt stronger but top end didnt go a mph faster then old ported peanut heads and old unknown cam maybe it wasnt stock... did 58mph with older prop, now with the larger prop hitting 63.5 with rebuilt motor and the new distributer with more timing but motor is pulling 200 more rpm then stock motor with smaller 21 prop, so the advance could have given more power.
plus new motor has domed ****ing pistons to increase compression, bob m cam didnt do much but cause reversion and a head ache

pantera232 06-18-2011 02:35 PM

Did you notice much of a hp increase iwth his cam?

cdail28590 06-20-2011 10:26 AM

I can't really say whether Bobs cam made more power because the original motor was a big solid cam that wiped 9 lobes off the cam when the motor supposedly had 10 hrs on it. I just built a new motor and got the cam from Bob. I did make the mistake of installing the cam 4 degrees advanced because the cam card had 4 degrees advanced on it. I later found out from talking to Bob that his cams are made to be put in at 0 and the 4 degrees is built in. It shouldn't have really affected the total horsepower it just changed my rpm range. I had the large oval port heads that had been ported prior to me getting the motor. I don't know how good the port job was to help flow but they were gasket matched.

pantera232 06-20-2011 06:10 PM

What rpm range are you getting at wot?
Did you go to a hydraulic roller or still solid...?
So your expecting 100 more hp out of merlin rec heads over old oval port heads?
Thought they flowed about the same as 781's

cdail28590 06-21-2011 10:19 AM

I went with a hydraulic roller and the max should be 5500. I bought some 320cc Merlin heads that should flow better than the 781's but I will lose a little torque down low but should make up for it and the fact my boat is pretty light it shouldn't effect to much. I didn't have the 781 heads but Bob said the heads I had were pretty close and still good heads.

pantera232 06-21-2011 04:30 PM

Im only getting 5000 rpm with the 23 pitch mirage, im wondering if im loosing rpm somewhere.
Carb is a 750 holly maybe there?

What rpm's were you seeing before she grenaded and which size prop?

I just put in new dist so im getting the 34 degrees

cdail28590 06-22-2011 03:11 PM

It was only turning 4500 with a 25 Mirage prop and I know the motor turned 5300 easily on the Dyno which is why we started checking items and found the timing to be to high. We think the timing was not allowing it to turn up properly and unfortunately we found the issue to late. I'm running a 850 carb on mine.

pantera232 06-23-2011 05:47 AM

Ive never ran on a dyno but you dont have the friction of turning a prop..
I should be seeing my mirage 23 plus any day now, ive read about engine blowing up too from too big of props, you think the 4500 wot seems a little low...

The 23 plus is probably gonna bring your RPM's down over that 23 standard Mirage you got from me, if you want to try my 21 plus, just let me know, probably gonna be out on the water somewhere July 4'th weekend.

cdail28590 06-23-2011 01:12 PM

The dyno uses water to simulate the pressure. Most people with lower hp than me are running 25 mirages on the Pythons so I don't think my prop was to big.

pantera232 06-23-2011 07:39 PM

Alirght no prob, rchevelle he was saying he was running 4500 rpm with the his prop, im turning 4950 with prop you sold me, so i dont mind if i loose a little rpm and gain some top end with 23plus, i may even look to try a 25 3 blade
