28's For Sale Single or Twin?

I have some friends that are in the market for a larger boat. They of course like the ride, space and handling of the 28 Pantera (who wouldnt?) and will be looking for a single or twin.

Please let me know if you see any and post a link here so they can check it.

Anyone know anything about this one:

http://www.boattrader.com/listing/20...RA-28-91799687

With 500's seems like a nice price.

Kirk

There are four of them in the classifieds.

I saw them. They are looking at $ 60K or less.

Thanks

Hi Kirk,

Remember I have the all white 1999 28' twin here at my factory with fresh XR's, Marine Machine steering, real clean upholstery, new gauges, aluminum trailer with mag wheels, etc. etc. I can drop a pair of engines in it or sell it complete less the 2 engines. I have not advertisied this 28' yet.

talon25 02-24-2008 05:45 PM

Kirk,

I have my 2007 up for sale, trailer queen sitting in my heated garage all winter on a sweet Myco. Its a little more than your friend wants to spend but it is all brand new at 90 hours. I will sell less engine if he has his own power.
Morgan

Why hasnt this one sold yet? Any ideas or do you think it is just a soft market?

Looks pretty clean from the pictures. Not alot of power though.

Stormrider 02-27-2008 10:58 AM

cause no one will step up and buy it.

jayhawk261 02-27-2008 11:03 AM

It used to be hot pink where the blue stripe is now. I wonder if he just had that part painted over, or painted the entire hull. It looks nice with the blue.

Dude! Sweet! 02-27-2008 01:15 PM

Good looking boat! I also dig the white one in the back ground! Rob, you crack me up!

I think the market's in the crapper. Oil's through the roof, people are falling out of their houses and losing their jobs and it's winter time. Tough time to sell expensive toys, but a great time to buy!

I was going to buy that one during the spring, but the apache was such a great deal I just couldn't pass it up. Its got plenty of power - twin 454 385hp. The owner told me it would do mid 70's. You could throw in some small blowers and get 500+hp. Thats pretty much what the 525SC is. My current engines are the 454/365hp and have been rebuilt to 460hp, but remain N/A. I looked at the receipts and the upgrade cost wasn't too bad. Buy for $40K and drop $5K into the engines and I think you could see 80+ easy.

Stormrider 02-27-2008 02:34 PM

or you could just buy it and enjoy it as is, figuring everything is OK.
On the other hand, you could take the 40k and invest it in aapl leaps, and in 2 years maybe you could buy a new 36 w/ 525s.

Stormrider 02-27-2008 02:36 PM

Andy, i'm guessing you didn't go to VA to look at it?
Anyone seen this in person?
Here's an idea... hunt down Scott(?) the owner of that 36 survivor... he should know this boat... right sean?
That'd be a good start.

I wish I'd offered to trade my boat to Shogren... I really do regret not getting that boat. ... I think if you have to ask "how fast" on a Pantera you're not looking at the right boat. You know the old addage, it's now how fast you go, its how well you go fast...
:D

Dude! Sweet! 02-27-2008 03:22 PM

I read your email like 5 times before I saw the post! I had no clue what you were talking about! Funny because it's true! :D

Nice addage - fits the pantera boats very well.

Nope, never went to look at the boat. I was going to leave it as is. Mid 70's is plenty fast for me. Last I remember the engines only have around 275 hours (probobly 290 now) and have new manifolds. I never could find any bad on the boat.

I would have bought the shogren boat less engine, but it wasn't advertised as such. That guy got a great deal.

Throw in $5K to get to 80+ is a nice little option. Just ask Dude Sweet how much he is into his boat and still sitting at low 70's:(

oooooo andy, that smarts.:hitfan:
this boat for 40 seems like a great buy.
me personally, i'd be looking at the 99 jo has, and throw some juicy sbcs in there.... yea, you'd be into it for more, but more power and new power costs....

Technically, my boat is sitting in the storage yard without a motor or drive right now... It's top speed is only limited by the ECU in my F250! It only ran in the low 70's twice before the motor came uncorked... :D

We'll see... I hear a rumor that my motor's coming home today or tomorrow.

That boat was all pink and was out of Maryland. If those motors haven't had any work done to them they probably are very tired. I have pictures and video of it somewhere. Here's one from the owners pics

mattcrabtree 02-27-2008 07:11 PM

its still got 275 hours and its not under powered it just needs hydralic steering and the blue is just painted not the hull its far from tired

ThruHull 02-27-2008 07:15 PM

Rick, check your pms. :drink:

I like the sound of that. I booked my trip in April. I think the training is in Disney Land.

Dude! Sweet! 02-27-2008 09:00 PM

Right on. That'll be perfect. I only live about 10 miles from the house o' mouse!

Stormrider 02-27-2008 09:11 PM

for 40k, you're gonna complain about tired motors(whether they are or not is another story) on a 1998?

Rick, have you been on 'matt's' boat? run it? or is this hear say and opinions.

VelocityRick 02-28-2008 06:24 AM

I never said that it was a bad boat. Nor did I say that it wasn't a good price. I did meet the previous owner, seen it, know what he was asking for it, and know how many hours are on those motors. I don't want to bash anyone's boat. A simple leak down test will show if they are tired. There are other factors that go into the price of a boat too. Like transom assy and the number of hours on those outdrives. Personally I would automatically assume a rebuild and factor that into the cost of the boat.

mattcrabtree 02-28-2008 07:12 AM

if you dont know dont run your mouth motors and drives pulled a year ago and gone thru 11k was spent on it

Matt, Don't take it personally. I only stated in my first post that if the motors haven't been reworked they probably need to be. I never attacked YOU. I don't know why your getting all upset. All you have to do is say........."I had the drives and motors pulled last year."

TexomaPowerboater 02-28-2008 08:20 AM

Velocity Rick - you did imply that the motors needed a rebuild. IMO they should be good for 4-500 hours, but then again you've seen and I haven't.

Mattcrabtree - welcome to the site. Good luck on the sale.

Stormrider 02-28-2008 08:50 AM

Lots of stuff gets said in these forums.
A serious buyer needs to go see these boats himself, or at least send a representative.

And yes, leak downs and compression tests are very important.

Stormrider 02-28-2008 08:51 AM

And matt, if stuff was done to your boat, you should put it in your ad... it WILL help sell the boat. But do not exaggerate, that will hurt.

VelocityRick 02-28-2008 08:54 AM

I made that statement because I knew how many hours were on that boat BEFORE Matt owned it. I'm NOT a mind reader and that's why I said that they probably need to be rebuild. I'm not getting into a pissing match. Matt already stated that the motors and drives were rebuilt so that makes my statement a mute point.

Full Throttle 525 02-28-2008 11:51 AM

Hey Guys:

I've decided to have my engine freshened. Thought it would sell better completely ready to go and makes me feel more comfortable in selling it. I don't want any bad calls coming my way. I'm even thinking about selling it without power. Give me a shout if anyone's interested.

I think you mean it's a "moo" point... You know like a cow's opinion. Nobody cares what a cow thinks about anything.

275 hours on stock 454's is nothing, especially if they haven't been ragged on. Looks like a good deal at $40k. :cool-smiley-011:

Ditto, most of the rumors I see flying around on different boats for sale have little to no info on the ads. When given no info a skeptical buyer will assume the worse.
