Default old Pantera HIN numbers

I know that WCW was used as the first 3 letters in the old HIN id numbers, but on the 1980 I am interested in, the owner says it begins with WOW, not WCW.
Is this possible?

Just found the info on Coast Guard site, so I have the answer to my own question.

I relize that you said you answered your own question.. But to share alittle I will say that the HIN's on the older boats can be Very hard to read.. even with original gel on the boat & next to impossible to Identify if it has been painted over... I could easily see how a C could be mistaken for an O & then tranfered as an O on the paperwork somewhere down the line... Like I said I realize that you said you have your answer but just thought I would share a bit...

Yeah, that's probably what happened because he read the HIN# to me from the registration, they probably screwed it up at DMV.

WOW belonged to a sailboat mfg which is now out of business.

Pics soon come mon.i

Glad you asked. OSO friend Vinman was going to check it out and called the seller, one Wayne Chesney from Toms River, to get directions to come and see the boat.
This Wayne dude tells Vinny the boat has been sold and is gone!!!!!!!!!!!
I am really pi----d off at this scumbag who's word means nothing apparently!
I mean, I had been talking to him for the last 2 weeks and trying to work around HIS schedule to come see the boat, I told him I am buying the boat as long as it checks out visually.
He didn't even bother to call me and say: look, I have someone here at my door with cash but since you were the first one to call on it you have the first right of refusal, I would have sent him a deposit instantly.
Oh well, it was meant to be I guess..........and there are always other boats for sale.
