bigboat28 03-13-2010 04:20 PM

Are those drives really as expensive to work on as everyone says?

YES, talked to a few people. they are really hard to work on and expensive, and that all depends on if you can even find parts.

Talked to the guy in fall/early winter. good guy have send a few emails, If things go right with stuff on my monday meeting i may be taking a trip to MD.

slpcamaross97 03-13-2010 06:55 PM

Keep in mind also these are the same pictures he send me about a year ago. and who knows when he actually took them. also their is some damage on the side of the boat above the rub rail near engine hatch from looks like a dock or something.

I am in MD, between Baltimore and DC. Send me an email with your contact info. During the day, I am about an 45 min to an hour away from the boat.

28 Pantera

What do you guys really think this boat is worth with the way the market is? The owner does not have alot of info on the drives and they could be a bit expensive to service or repair. Its an old boat and needs some updating, plus we all know how every little thing will nickel and dime you to death. I'm seriously thinking about pulling the trigger on buying it. Would just like to hear the opinions of the Pantera family.

Thanks Tom

slpcamaross97 04-04-2010 09:11 PM

TOM buy it, so i dont have to, For what his asking seem like fair price. IT does needs some TLC. Ive been talking to the owner for about a year now.

Drives are really hard to get parts for and someone who knows how to work on them is hard to find too. But they look bad A$$,

I would love to owne this boat but found a good deal on a newer boat and needs less love.

bigboat28 04-05-2010 08:31 AM

Drives do sound expensive to work on prop shafts alone are 1500$ from what I have been told and not everyone will even work on them? I was even told that the tools alone to work on them were 12,000$.

Slp..... what did you find?

I have a guy who knows them in and out and would have no problem with them.

he told me SELL THEM..... parts are worth a ton, then pick up some bravo's and do some glass work and problem solved.

I called a few other places trying to just find some parts and everyone told me good luck..... Or buy a whole unit used and hope they have the good parts that you may need.

But ya Just a big expensive drive. BUT SOOOOO cool looking.

Stormrider 04-06-2010 08:19 AM

3s dont seem to expensive...
"3ea. fresh #3, drives. They have zero hours since a complete rebuild with all new upper gears, bearings, seals. ready to bolt on and go boating, $4500ea"
http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o26935-en.html

Quit your whinning boys.

Stormrider 04-06-2010 08:21 AM

Also, i think El Indio may have a set or 2 of #3s lying around.
Keep a spare pair ready to go...

I was going there to buy it last week. I talked to the guy. His name is Butch and he seemed really cool.I eneded up buying this ten meter instead call him that morning i was going to go and he sounded a little mad. I just got a smokin deal on this.... It also has 3a's but i got to tell you it runs nice with them on.

golfmaxgolf 07-13-2010 07:35 PM

Still 4 sale $15+ - Why? Had a local put eyes on it! Didn't get deep in it but said it was reasonably clean and seemed solid.

pantera

Be carefull, I tried to buy this boat a few months ago and the seller (butch) would not seatrial the boat at all. I offered to pay for expense to do seatrial and he still would not. Just seems like he's hidding something. Really wanted the boat just didn't want to buy anything that was a time bomb.

GOFASTJUNKIE 07-15-2010 05:45 PM

I have talked to him several times over the past 3 or 4 months. He claimed, he bought the boat with not motors, only the drives. It was found inside of a wharehoue, were it sat for I think he said 10 years. Not sure of that. He has always mentioned NO seatrial. I have continued to make him a NO seatrial offer and he has still declined. I know the boat is heavy. He said, 8,000 lbs I am not sure of that part. It is only about an hour from me and I have just not had any free time to go see it. he also mentioned, at different times, that he has 3 boats. The wife told me they used it to drive a very short distance to a dock bar and back. He made it seem like he uses his center console more. Hopefully, I can get to see it very soon. But, no sea trial, he will continue to get my NO seatrail offer. As for a survey, he did not seem interested. Claimed he know more than a surveyor.......................Been for sale since last year.

Doesn't seem logical if everything is straight up and he wants to sell the boat. Where there's smoke there is usually fire. If you want a survey and are paying for it then ...WTF

GOFASTJUNKIE 07-15-2010 08:57 PM

Only thing i could figure, is he does not want to be bothered. Once again, that is why my offer has been low. I told him from the start, my offer is not to be an insult but basically not even seeing if it will float? I am taking a chance. What good is a boat that does not float. It has to float before you can worry about anything else..................I will keep you guys posted. I will have some more time to out into it next week. I will see what I can dig up......................

tomcei 07-16-2010 02:33 PM

listen..... If the guy doesn't want to be bothered then why did he list a boat for sale that invites people to bother him????

slpcamaross97 07-17-2010 07:04 PM

These are all the same things guy told me. Boat seem good but i never got as far as a sea trial. I called him once this past month left a message and never got a call back.

Guy seem ok just maybe burnt out on trying to sell a boat and dealing with many of people. I know the feeling on selling a few things these past days.

BUT..... No sea trial.... come on.... price will have to reflect a non running condition. So 10k ill go pick it up.

bigboat28 07-18-2010 08:03 PM

Been for sale for longer than just last year.

bigboat28 07-18-2010 08:04 PM

What is he telling you guys he will sell for?

slpcamaross97 07-19-2010 11:22 AM

Think guys are backing out because he wont let a sea trial happen. or people finding better deals on other boats that need less work?

fantastixvoyage 07-19-2010 01:19 PM

Is there a current add?

excalibur82 07-23-2010 05:10 PM

I was going to buy it. You know if you do a compression test and run the boat on a hose. Pressure check the drives and maybe even drain the fluid a little to see what it looks like and also shift it in and out of gear. You should be fine. I bought my fountain that way.I have the same drives on my fountain. The drive height is very high but with the same power as that pantera i run 75. The are alitte pricey to fix but alot stronger than a bravo.

Jake1250 08-01-2010 06:25 PM

Talk to Dave at MDG Performance in Maryland.....He worked on this boat some years back...It was kept at London Town Marina in Edgewater MD
