If it wasn't so far away I would buy it , sell all the parts . Should be worth 5K just in parts then set it in the back lot till I was ready to build my Duramax boat . Other members complained about it being a POS but if you had to pay someone else to do the work it would not be worth it but we can do the build in house and I would be ok .

no limits 02-12-2012 08:02 PM

Been there done that. Personally I wouldn't d!ck w/it, but someone might. If anyone was in any way interested, I wouldn't give more than 3k. Too much to be bought cheap right now in better condition. Patience is the key...these boats ALWAYS come up for sale.

What world do you live in ? 88Bullet found the only 28 that was a deal in the last five years .
You might find Scarab's , Fountain's and Baja's but there is no such thing as a 6K 28 Pantera ..
I,ve thought about buying it just to show people it is rebuildable

Plenty of deals out there on newer and better 28's that will cost less in the long run.
Even if you do all the work yourself, you will have 30k into it and it will still be a 1981 worth about 15k.

OCCJoe 02-12-2012 09:54 PM

All I'm saying is show me another 28 Pantera for less then 10K , Rebuilding a boat that needs that much work is not for everyone but for myself it's what I like to do .
To be clear ! There is 5K worth of parts to be sold off that boat . So I look at it as having a $1000 in the hull , rebuild the stringer system and transom to a single and lets say you have 15-20k in motor , drive, and rigging , 4K in paint , 3K in a nice trailer and 200 hours of time invested , about 5K . So lets just say 32-35K .
Now here's where I stand . I have 35K in a 28 Pantera that I built , I know everything about it inside and out and it's just the way I want it ....OR ....Go buy a 28 for 30K that you know nothing about , you don't know if the motor is what the seller claimed it is or the outdrive has a thousand hours on it or maybe you wish the gauges were different or what ever little thing you wish you could change .
Rebuilding/Resto isn't for everyone , Most need to buy the turn key boat . But don't knock the people that do love to make chicken salad out of chicken $hit .

88bullet 02-12-2012 09:59 PM

duramax and a arneson in that bad boy!!

Understood. A boat that someone puts their own time in is worth alot. I'm the same way so to speak. Lots of pride in doing and putting in the hard work to make it right. I wish everybody thought the same. If its for me and I'm going to keep it whether it's a roach from the beginning doesn't matter to me if it's what I want. But to sink your time into it to try and sell now or later...most people don't care and the market for boats as we all know is terrible. I have redone boats, bought and sold for parts, etc. Either way, its tough right now. If you were to sell for parts now... the trs alone would be hard to sell. I got some trs stuff now I can't give a way and I love the stuff...got one on my Pantera now. If you redo to sell...you'll lose right now. Like griff said, try to invest your time and 30k in to an 1981 28 Pantera...you'll be lucky to get 15-17k in the end. I am a Pantera fan through and through, so if you really want it...he's asking 5999, it'll sell for less.

Well said ! Truth be told I'm not looking for another boat to build rite now but I did think about picking it up and sitting on it . And yea to move TRS stuff rite now you have to give it away . But one thing is for sure is that is a labor/love boat and not a money maker .

True. By the way, I have been dying to see the Combat Zone boat in its new colors...when is it coming out of hiding?

JAIME 02-13-2012 05:24 AM

I m still curious to see what the new OCC 24 Pantera is gonna be. Any pictures?

bigboat28 02-13-2012 08:50 AM

Not sure but as far as best deals in the last 5 years I think mine is right up there with Tim. Maybe better, mine has hydraulic steering, LOL, just messing with you Tim.

I agree dale. Your boat was well bought. The best deal boat i have ever seen was the member Baddogz28 91 twin sold for 20k. then a year later with new paint for 30k ish

Not knocking anything. Its your time and money.
I'll choose to spend my 200hrs on the water boating instead of in the bilge.

I've got three turn key 80+ mph boats . You can best believe if it's a boating day I'm gonna be out there, but I can't sit in the house and watch TV so I usually go out to the shop and work from about 9 at night till about 2 in the morning . If I don't i'm pissed off so I guess everyone has their own deal .
I'm not knocking anyone that buys a turn key boat . Hell I did it with my Y2k but I do get an enjoyment out of having someone ask me about my boats and I tell them I built it .

onesickpantera 02-14-2012 09:35 AM

If I had the building, equipment and knowledge I would love to tackle a project like that. Unfortunately, I am 0 for 3. LOL

bigboat28 02-14-2012 09:40 AM

Our weather is stinking right now, been snowing all morning. Suppose to turn to rain and then warm up in the next few days.

No my boat is not ready unless I want to paddle it around, LOL. I took the motors out about a week and a half ago when it was warm. Then it got cold so I guess I shouldn't have done that. I have two afternoons in scrubbing the bilge. I am going to clean it up some more, fill some holes and paint it up once it warms back up.

The boat is not ready but I am ready for spring.

88bullet 02-14-2012 01:31 PM

Better get crackin dale!!!!!! Take some pics!!!

I remember someone thinking this was a horrible idea to do...:evilb:

"you can buy mine for about half of what it would cost to get that thing up and running again. 96 pantera 28 single 548"

"you consider that thing "some work"? maybe having to recover a seat or buff some gel or recover some bunks on a trailer in my opinion would be "some work".

"buy my 28 single for half what it would cost to bring that thing back from the dead"

88bullet 02-14-2012 05:03 PM

i know it is a bad idea to buy that boat especially for me to get it back to ny. its just mid of february and im bored so i figured i would stirr the sh!t pot a little lol there is another thread going on this boat in the classic section. some different opinions in there tho

Stormrider 02-15-2012 08:11 AM

i thought this would be cool to have in the back yard, if you had little kids to play pretend on, instead of a swing set. But if you can 'put your finger through the dashboard', then it even sounds dangerous for that use...

btw, where is MGH? ever since his cover was blown he's been MIA.

88bullet 02-15-2012 10:36 AM

HE HASNT BEEN ON SINCE 12/9/2011 maybe you guys were a little too hard on him lol. anyone got any updates on the projects going on ? where is Vintagechromoly how ya making out with the 24? i hate this time of year!!!!!!

I told MGH about a 26 Sonic with a 496HO that was rite about the money he wanted to spend and would be a great first go fast boat . That was the last time we talked . He changed his user name and hasn't loged in under MGH sence the $hit hit the fan . I've still got all the pictures of him I coppied off his face book if you want a good laugh

88bullet 02-15-2012 10:53 AM

OCC I NEED A GOOD LAUGH :lolhit:

mgh 02-15-2012 11:01 AM

Whats up folks? I see that you guys miss me. So...do you think I should jump on this all white 28 or what? I bet I could low ball him haha.

A side note, did the guys boat ever sell? I feel bad that we screwed up his for sale topic post

88bullet 02-15-2012 11:05 AM

So you are alive!!!!! Buy anything yet??

mgh 02-15-2012 11:15 AM

Alive and well.

But serious. note .Last December, signed a PO to buy a boat from Illinois. Seller signed PO and returned. I paid for survey, got results (good) proceeded to move forward. When it came to paperwork, his Ex-wife name was still on title (not disclosed on prior conversations and prior to signing PO with me). Deal could not go through at that time due to wasted time and weather turning and termoil between the two sellers. Waiting until April, hoping that their personal issues have been resolved (divorce final) so I can FINALLY get the boat.

OCCJoe 02-15-2012 12:10 PM

So what kinda of boat is it ????
