Not really fair to compare the cabin of a 31ft boat to a 28ft boat, but to say the cabin of the 28 pantera is better or bigger is just plain wrong. You obviously have never been on a 28 Apache. The pantera's I've been on are all uphulstered, no gelcoat anywhere in the cabin. The Apache storage areas, love seats, and berth are all completely gelcoated. Every piece of cushion is gelcoated underneath.

"THE CHAIR"

The 28 Apache actually already has a spot for "the chair" There is a built in hatch and storage compartment. The inside is all gelcoated over. The original design is for a porta potty. All you have to do is pull the hinges off and remove the front of the hatch off and upholster the seat and you'll have "the chair." This whole hatch mechanism pulls up and folds/lays flat on the berth.

Note the built in hatch just in front of the berth. The whole thing goes to the back of the middle upholstery section. I was going to convert it to "the chair" and I still may. Only cost would be upholstery......probably less than $500.

One other thing that sets this boat apart is the gigantic anchor locker. I can put a 4 year old kid inside of this thing.

It also has much better access to the dash. You can sit on top of the storage rather comfortable and get to all of the wiring. With the pantera your access is from the cockpit......... so in addition to being hard to work on its also exposed to the elements.

No GPS.

Runs 71, but I haven't spent any money or time chasing down speed numbers. I'm still running the same props I used when it had 454's. Since I repowered I've either had a pregnant wife on board or a toddler or both on board so we just cruise around.

apache 28's are nice boats. i wanted delsol's boat in the worst way. but timing was wrong for me. whats the deal with yours?? why hasnt it sold yet?? 4 pantera boats off the top of my head have sold so if an apache is superior and the same price range why is yours still sitting in your driveway??

That looks like the cabin of a 35! Gorgeous. Not sure I've ever seen a 28" Apache in person.

the pic is Jo and Pepe racing my boat back in F1 when they won the world championship with it.

but...when I air it out like that I feel pretty secure most of the time lol. my boat is purpose bult, being a raceboat, for running wide open in rough water. although anyone who says they have never puckered their bum bum and scared themselves a bit isnt really running their boat.

You gotta bring that thing to the 2 poker runs out here. Early june and mid august!!!

I sold it back in October, but the guy never followed thru on the deal. Had sea trial, offer, acceptance, etc then he just droped off the map.

Most all of those panteras that sold were newer 98-2002 boats, which is much easier to get financing for. It would of sold for $40K if you could finance it. I had a few serious buyers at $40K back in August, but couldn't get financing. So the value is there, the market loves the boat, but the market can't get a loan for it so its going to take a little longer.

88bullet 02-23-2012 04:24 PM

my 96 i financed at 4% and my 94 also at 4%. even tho the ecomomy is in the sh!tter if your not a complete deadbeat you can still get financing...only problem is they arent giving mortgages on boats like they used to.. i could only go 5yrs on my loan and i could only borrow 80% of appraised value. i thought about your boat but texas was a little too far away for me.

Most of those panteras were also on the east coast. Much better market for these kinds of boats on the east coast. Have had a lot of people interested from the east coast, but they don't want to drive. I can help with transport to and from airport and lodging. My family has a couple of lakehouses about a mile from were I keep the boat. Would make for a great weekend vacation if someone wanted to stay the weekend before they drove the boat home.

The Get Away 02-23-2012 04:34 PM

Here is my dilemma.....I wanted to step down a little bit from my 311 to a single engine pantera something a little easier on fuel. Yes I know economical and boating they don't go together. If I were to take my 311 to the river for a day and not run hard i would still spend $300 just in fuel for the boat. My brother in laws single 29 fountain will spend not quit $200. We all know that boat is really only about 25 ft and wont ride as good as a either boat. So at the end of the year last year i wanted 88 bullets boat but i was working to many hours to have a chance to check it out. Then after reading why he wanted a twin 28, started thinking how nice it would be to be able to run 80+. So im not a posed to either, but the boat that was posted earlier in the thread for sale doesn't have a padded engine hatch. I guess that wouldn't be to hard to have recovered, and the graphics aren't really my favorite either. Some one make my mind up for me. Has anyone heard for velocity rick to see if his boat is going to be for sale or not?

Boat has been sold.

TexomaPowerboater 02-23-2012 04:49 PM

80+ would be nice. I set up the 502's with merc 500HP fuel pump/water pump and an oversized oil cooler from teague. All it takes is a simple cam change and valve springs to get to 480hp on this setup and you will be well into the 80's with the right prop. The whole setup is extremely easy to self diagnose and fix. I'm running a merc MEFI4 system so I'm hitting the rev limiter at 4800-4900rpm. Lots of opportunity for speed gains if thats what your looking for.

The Get Away - throw me an offer you'll be happy with. Worst case I say no..... not going to hurt my feelings. I'll even throw in a discount if you give me the right to first refusal to buy it back. I'd love to buy it back after I'm done paying for kids in daycare.

The one in the classifieds is going to get up there in price by the time you buy a trailer and either drive to miami to get it or paid to have someone transport it to cincinnati. I guess I didn't take into consideration the weight of my 311, and how much those 420's had to work to keep the pig on plane. Maybe a twin 28 won't be so hateful on fuel, and more importantly quite a bit faster.

88bullet 02-23-2012 07:46 PM

the one in baltimore isnt bad. if you buy it cheap enough you have room to redo the interior. i understand the drive part. i went to tennessee for the first one and minneapolis for the second one and it wasnt cheap but hey its a part of the sport i guess. vertigo is still up in the air go scoup that up quick. thats a bad b!tch!!

bigboat28 02-24-2012 10:15 AM

Where in Ohio are you? I drove to Maryland for mine. I agree vertigo is sweet, wish I would have had enough cash to buy it. I do kind of like the one in Miami too. As for fuel my first 28 had twin 502 mags and I thought it did very good on fuel. The way twins float in the water looks sweet too. What ever happened to that 28 with the twin 365hp 454's that kept popping up on here? If it is still available might not be to bad for you.

i'll let you know if the deal i got with vertigo falls through come spring time. everything is lined up with a contract signed, just waiting to water test.

that's the one that the car dealer had on e-bay. Showed that it sold 2 or 3 times but kept re-appearing as in he was ghost bidding.
Ziemer talked to him on the phone and thought it sounded promising none the less. He was scheduled to go see it but I think bought his 30' Velocity before ever going.
My guess is another car dealer that thinks he knows the boat market and probably took it on trade. There's one in Melbourne w/a very clean ('89/90) 31' IMP Ellaganza (I think) that wants $41K for the thing :helmet:
Here's your sign :thankyouthankyou:

I bought my 28 with no motor, drive, etc. and I have been very happy with the decision. Having a motor custom built and the boat rigged by the builder (Saris Racing Engines) was a great experience. I would highly recommend it.

The Get Away 04-27-2012 04:53 PM

If I could find one priced right. If someone were to buy the boat in the classifieds with out power and built a 540 for it they would have a min of 40k in it when it was all said and done. That is starting to get outta my price range.

Stormrider 04-27-2012 07:18 PM

You can try to buy it for 25 and buy some power off the swap n shop.
