Don't worry about my time because it only takes but a moment to respond to a post. It's not hard to do. Also, I'm not sure you should be thanking those on this thread for the attention they are giving your family. :D :D

Drugs and Offshore.....
We all know it happened, many of us know people that were involved to some degree. I'm 53 yrs old and have had to fight and scrape for every freagin buck I've made. The drug running (IMO) was part of the allure to put Offshore boats and racing on the map. Was a fairly successful TV series back in the day that would have never happened w/o it. Every time my wife and I have our boat in the Keys I look/listen for some of that history as I'm an honest enough person to admit that if that offer came along at the right time (busting ass at 21-23 yrs old trying to catch a break), doing what I loved, for that kind of money......., luckily I grew up in Ohio and not Miami as I'm not sure where or "IF" I'd be now. Easy to pass judgment w/o being their. Watch "Cocaine Cowboys" to see the levels of society that took part. WAYYYYY more than most accept. On Pepe's history, enough already! He screwed up, got caught and paid his dues. Get over it. That's part of what makes America America. Pantera's more recent history I only know what I've read here, heard myself and have read in court documents which are tough to debate. I will say that I've been involved in the boating business one way or another all of my life. I sold and worked on boats in the late '80's in Ohio when MAJOR dealers were selling boats out of trust. That means, you get a loan for your $100K+ dream boat, the bank pays the dealer, dealers gives you boat but they don't pay off the floor plan for the boat and you never get a title because the dealer/bank still owns the boat! Dealers were using that lump sum payment for your boat as operating capital while continuing to make minimum interest only payments on the floor plan loan of your boat. Same as the builder doing the shell game w/buyers money. During that era there were dealers leaving in the middle of the night. BIG dealers. I watched it happen. I talked to customers that spent yrs trying to get a title for their new boat. I had boat customers wanting to see our financials before they'd buy from us! I went to one bank auction of a huge local dealer that did just that. Was one of the saddest things I've seen. Customers don't want to buy, banks don't want to loan, banks that were still floor planning went from verifying dealer inventory bi-monthly to weekly (!!!), mfgs put dealers on COD........, ugly times to be sure. Worked for one dealer that financed their entire operation from a fictitious real estate investment corporation and went to jail for bilking millions from investors for property that never existed. We had 13 new Checkmates in stock (two 25' Convincors!) that they paid cash for. On the boat building side what you typically see is one of two types of people to get involved. The fans/customers/racers that want to build the best out there but may or may not have actual market knowledge or business sense to succeed. The other type is the bean counter/investor that thinks they're going to stream line a fat, poorly run company, use automotive type production methods and show us how it's done. Many, many failures in history on both sides. Sorry for the book but had to vent. Not defending Pantera but sure appears to be lots of experts voicing opinions about an industry that is way different and way more difficult than perceived. |
Good post ^
After just completing a boat build minus laying the hull up. I can tell you all with certainty that I could never even dream of being a builder. For anybody that hasnt done it, give it a try. I guarantee you'll have an entirely different outlook. I also know that I couldn't sell my boat and end up in the black right now & thats not including paying myself or the other two men that were involved in the build. People / business make mistakes. Just go to the boat threads, go down the list. Break them up into ones that are out of business, those that have filed 11, and those that may not have spotless track records. Then take the remaining lily white companies and go buy one. First youll find theres not a very big selection, secondly you'll find that your paying a premium on these boats. I'm not defending jo / pp / or pantera because at face value it looks like a major mistake was made. But ya know what.....I dont know the inner workings of pantera or how the deal went down with mr senner. And to be totally honest I really dont give a fuc k, it's none of my business and wasn't my deal. Ive talked to jo and even considered buying a 28 unrigged recently, and yes I would handle my deal with a bit of caution given recent history. I just dont understand the end game for some members ? Drive pantera off forums? Try to get them to close doors via online banter ??? Or just a way to kill time until the next witch hunt? What? Also, some of you guys look like total twirps with some of your posts. Would you be embarrassed if coworkers, wife, friends saw some of the gold being thrown up here? Preaching the moral high ground yet posting the total opposite. Good weekend to all. Mike D |
Good post TwinO/BSonic.
Now to go back a bit. Why the heck should we post our full names and addys? Is someone going to come and silence us? If you really want to find someone posting here you have all of the tools required right in front of you. Even just with a user name. Start by googling that user name and read any and all posts from that person. Chances are that his name will pop up somewhere. Then run it through ZabaSearch or a similar service. Or contact the forum owner and report that you have been threatened by a poster and you want to know the identity in order to report it. Or find the person's IP address. Then you can google earth a nice image of the persons home and surrounding area and plot your activity. WTF Bankruptcy to screw a customer of of $100,000 and a landlord out of some $50,000. Crazy. |
those were 2 very good posts!!! who is gonna be the first a$$wipe to tell you how wrong both of you are???

"In October 1989, defendant Lee flew with Dortch to Miami, Florida, to meet with one of Dortch's suppliers, Pepe Nunez. During the meeting, Dortch and Nunez had a heated argument about money shortages involved with their cocaine deals. "
money shortages, reoccurring theme. ed |
One post explained how we shouldn't be surprised that drug dealing and boat building can be in the same sentence, the other that boat building isn't for everybody.
Neither have been hooped by the builder that's being talked about. Both made it clear that they weren't defending Pantera. The part I didn't understand was calling this exposure of a fraud a "witch hunt " |
