X dimension
How do I get the x dimension for a bravo drive on a 24 pantera or what is the x dimension? Got rid of the volvo penta and trying to have the bravo put on before summer so any input will definitely help
thanks |

if you dont want to reglass your transom get yourself a adaptor plate to bolt your gimble onto. it worked great on my friends 27 magnum. or call jo and get the height that works well on 24's measure and start cutting.

get ahold of tom wallen or mange on here. they have some 24's set up pretty good over seas
|
Jo says most 24 cut @17.
Can go 17.5 or as much as 18 but anything over18 won't offer good all around performance. Best for top speed. |
Hope I cut that one in the right place!

X
It's measuring your talking about is from the bottom, correct?

there is some good info in there. basically its the measurement from the bottom of the boat to the centerline of the crankshaft of your motor or input shaft of your outdrive measure from the bottom of the hull to the bottom of the transom assembly and add 9.25 inches. that will get you within 1/8th of an inch for your x dimension. keep us posted with your progress |
you have to measure perpendicular to the running surface, with a square, can't measure straight up the transom or your measurement will be off.

I still need to figure out my x for a surface drive!!

Well, I'm going to run a bravo for a few years...then use a kaama or sell both and buy an Arneson.

I'm going to cut mine in at 17. I have the template and I'm ready to cut.
I'm going with a 500 inch bbc at around 500 to 550 horse. I hope the 17 is where I need to be. I'm tempted to push it to 17.5. |
Why did you settle with the 17 instead of the 17.5? I called the pantera factory and spoke with pepe and he told me 17.25so i think thats what im going to be setting it at wheni get to that point.

Hey x. I guess I was thinking 17 because of the reading here. I found an old thread where joe recommended 17.
I don't want the prop to break free in the turns so I'm thinking a conservative 17 inches will work. I wonder how much top end I would gain by going up .25 to .5 inches a d if I would loose prop grip in the turns if I did. Anyhow, good luck with your project. |

There is nothing measurable to gain by going higher than 17.5 and prop choices are greatly increased below 17.25 as well as prop hold in turns. Of course if you want to have several Herring 5 and 6 blades made up to test then go as high as you want to but with m+ and B1's stay with the proven #'s
