OK a couple things worked on today. My wind screen was painted over, not sure if it was to make the hull look more current (my thinking since the lifeline is gone too) or because it was old and full of crazing. Either way I had a guy come over and look at it, he said to DA it down to remove the paint then he will polish it up to look new or if its too bad off he will build me a new one. Here it is before, I will get some sanding in this week.
http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps1d7h16t3.jpg Next is my water pickup, got it stripped and will get it powder coated this week, then I'll match paint to the coating for some later paint work. http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps6yv9nnhp.jpg |
Next was the stripping of the drive, I was a little worried about just how much body filler I would need to get it looking good because it looked like hell.
http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...psnicv4r6j.jpg As stripping started I realized there was ALOT of paint, black, primer, white, primer, black, primer, yes 6 coats. http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...psygurpxkb.jpg As I stripped thru the layers I realized, no filler would be necessary as the case is absolutely spotless under those thick protective layers. http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...psf4vga7md.jpg |

As promised here are a few pics from today. Got it jacked up and got under the floor as best as I could and flushed out the hull, at first I figured I was washing out excess soda from blasting the bilge. Actually what I found was a bunch of sand.
http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...psf34fb277.jpg Next I pulled the carpet up and pulled the windshield off. As you can see from previous pics the windshield had been painted white, Im going to try to strip it and polish it back to original. http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps6zgz8vq2.jpg Looking good. Will you do me a favor? Can you put a straight edge on your cockpit sides front to back and then top to bottom and shoot me a photo? I'm trying to figure out how straight the sides should be. Thank you! |
No problem. As soon as I get back to.the boat I'll be more than happy.

Got a few things handled today. Rub rail is off
http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...psustxzzyv.jpg Teak is off http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...psv3t1lpsr.jpg http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...pswfxjyfxt.jpg |
Windshield is striped of paint, it looks real bad. Discoloration and full of cracks. Had a polycarbonate guy come to look at it, he's just going to do a new one for me since this one is so far gone.

Didn't have a whole lot of time today but I managed to get the hinge pins out and some stripping done.

Pretty much done stripping. Looking to soda blast this stuff this week and if I can get some painting done, start some sort of assembly next weekend. I also started stripping teak for refinishing, I'll get some photos when I get farther along.

Teak underway.

Nice job, what kind of stripper did you use?

Also got some soda blasting done today. Hope to start priming gimble and outdrive tomorrow night if all goes well. I'll get pics of that stuff tomorrow.
|
Teak items just a tad further along.
http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...psbljh0u8m.jpg Had a little setback on a couple parts for painting, inner gimble ring had been sitting and the steel dipstick tube was rusty so I gotta re-blast that. I did however acid wash a couple parts and start priming. http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...psj7rrvuyd.jpg |
Oh and you can see in the above picture that I reshaped the skeg on the prop side as it was busted off and jagged as $hit.
Then on to some primer, happy to be making a little progress for sure. I ordered a bunch of new hardware for the drive assembly this week like bellows trim indicators and some hardware, not sure if it will be here this week but I have plenty to do either way. http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...psobeexfob.jpg |
I post the pictures when I screw up too. I'm not a painter and I screwed up last night, just too heavy on the second coat I couldn't get the gun to spray a nice fine mist and was trying to get it laid down. Color match is perfect I'm doing everything in flat red and flat silver.
http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...psg6wwhcao.jpg |
Last of the primer done today. Hope to have it all red tomorrow. Also started cleaning up the interior for reassembly.http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps9gagwqf4.jpg
|
Not much to report for this weekend. Got the outdrive and gimble pieces all in red, boat is about 75% buffed and interior is in the beginning stages of clean up. Also got the golf cart body off to drop at paint but that's another project. No pictures but I'll get some more in the next few days.

This is where I went off the script, not real typical but I'm going with Matte red and Matte silver. I just had to slide it on to check it out.

Got some stuff done today but had the bottom drop out when I figured out that my MercTrans pilot bushing is in my old crank. Looks like I won't be putting the engine in tomorrow, BUMMER.

Really coming along man.
Good job! |
Looking great!! Can't wait to see it finished!!
|
Thanks guys. I have other things to do but I really need the engine in so I can get the placement for the strainer and fuel system. I guess I'll make the decision in the morning what I will tackle for the day.
|
Spent fathers day morning with my dad putting the engine in and glad we did.( I think I may have forgotten just how Un - flexible I am.) Went in with little drama and now I have a much better understanding of the future placement for my fuel system and the strainer it never had.

I was pretty sure I was painting the hydraulic steering pieces because they look terrible, as you can see by the above pic. Well I was very surprised just what is under that crud!
