Older Pantera with 525 speed??
Hi,
Any idea what a 89 Pantera 28 would do if i changed my twin 383 MPI to one 525? im not sure where that would put me. Im on 68 miles now but was thinking the weight saving and less drag from one more drive would put me more or less on the same number?
Reason is that im fed up with the standard 383 MPI motors. Economical, ugly, boring and too easy. need something that costs a lot, breaks often and looks cooler! And saving the weight from the twin set up would make me road legal on the trailer here in europe.

Not worth the swap at all! My F1 race boat with close to 700 HP runs 75 mph(GPS) on average. Best ive ever seen with a pro running throttles is 78 mph(also GPS).
Now i have a local friend with a early 80s hull with twin SBC that are 700 each and hes in the 90s. That is the way to go!

want the cool factor
pull the 383 and sell em
install light ls motors either with pro chargers or turbos
have major hp and light
now u have the cool factor, light, dependable and haul 20 mph faster

I don't really care for the twins myself but everyone is on point with not wasting your time and money . And yea a pair of aluminum LS with turbos would probably weigh 300lbs less and definitely have the cool factor at the dock . They make everything to install them in a boat now .

My 1996 28 ran 66-67mph with a 525SC bumped to about 560hp. It got worse mpg than my twin 502mpi's in my AT.
Going from twins to single would prob cost 10k in glass work alone.

Cool idea with the LS alu actually. Never thought about that. Some google'ing to do:-)
Now that im at it, a different topic that maybe deserves a seperate tread but what if i had a set of Kaama drives for a different project. Could i install these on the pantera and how would it behave? i mean running the pantera i need to trim out the faster i go to get a good handling and feel but i have no idea about surface drives. getting bow lift out of them gotta be near impossible? They can be trimmed a bit but not sure if that would have any effect at all? Also getting on plane can potentially become impossible? That would have been a lot of work for for nothing then...........
