36 cockpit redo
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...a0c6939f2.jpeg
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...054bc2469.jpeg I bought the 36 from Ducky with only 7 test hours on it but I couldn’t stand the beyond basic cockpit. For a custom boat it had mass production written all over it. I decided to upgrade the dash with a 12” Garmin, modern Garmin stereo, intercom headset system, and all new layout upholstery with real carbon fiber and alcantara. So far the upholstery will be a grey with orange stitching and blue and grey real carbon fiber inserts. Also doing a custom Marine Mat flooring. The layout is being changed with repositioning of the bolsters and redesign of the back seat, bolsters, and side gunnels. Also figuring out what to do with the windscreen vinyl that goes around the top. May do a blue and grey carbon fiber considering the blue trim and grey upholstery we are using. We are also doing modern cockpit lighting, Livorsi monster speedos for the back passenger's and some other custom touches. I will keep you updated but here is the starting point. |
Nice.
Where are you getting the interior done at?
Performance Marine Fabrication in Middle River. I actually just went there to get a Marine Mat floor. But Brian the owner has such a talent and vision I couldn’t leave it at just the floor. We started talking and his ideas just got my imagination going. I had to let him do it all. 😆. I can’t wait to see it completed. He is literally changing everything from the shapes, materials, colors, layout, electronics, etc….. iIf your in the area look him up or I can give you his info. He just finished a Skater that turned out amazing!
That’s exciting to hear. I am looking forward to seeing the results and your thoughts about how it turns out. I am in the area and need to get my interior done in the next year or so.
That makes 2 of us lol. The guy is amazing. I truly went in just for a floor. But he sold me on the whole thing which it needed. I never liked the interior. Pantera didn’t do it originally. What Pantera do you have?
I have a 28. The interior padding is still really good but there is brown that is showing up. I cannot get rid of it. I tried a lot of cleaners, magic eraser and even bleach. So I think it’s just time.

Looks great
Hey Matt, she still looks beautiful, glad to see you take good care of her, she couldn't have gone to a better home
Thank you for taking great care of it. She has a new motor (500 EFI with a 532 dart block), new bunks on the trailer. I am amazed the wood lasted 21 years. I think interior and re-gel in the future? Maybe a whipple if the bank account allows one day. She’s still very solid and running very well.

Damn that’s a good looking 28. I had the same problem with my 28 going brown on the vinyl. I could never get rid of it either and even tried some harsh chemicals. It’s u.v. damage I believe so it won’t go away. But disappointing as I can see you too take great care of it.
I wipe it down with 303 before and after every time taking it out. It seems like the new vinyl doesn’t have as good durability because the EPA doesn’t allow a certain chemicals. I hear a lot of boat manufacturers going towards a silicon fabric which is more durable than the new marine vinyl. Not sure how true this is or not.
I haven’t heard of that but can believe it. So a bunch of old vinyl we need to get rid of because it turns yellow is better for the enviorment. Lol. I am going with a high grade vinyl and alcantara from Germany so I will see if we have any more luck with that. Maybe the Germans still use the good stuff lol
The interior on that 28 is a good candidate for the old rattle can vinyl spray. A couple months back thisistank was posting about what he used on his cigarette vinyl in the cigarette forum. Obviously not an ideal fix, but if foam is still good might last you another 5 years. Got nothing to lose by trying it.... Send us some updated picks if you do try it.
Curious if that 28 Pantera on trailer would clear a 6ft 10in height garage door? Looks pretty low on the trailer. I'm looking for a 28 something and have 40ft of garage, but am restricted by standard height door. |
Jo told me many years ago that the brown pattern coming through the vinyl was a problem with the glue they used to glue the backer onto the vinyl. there's nothing you can do to get rid of it since it's coming through from the back side. Was an issue back in the late 90s early 2000s. I did hear the vinyl spray paint was a quick fix but won't last

Looks good MMatt. Is that a Owens and Sons trailer?
Yes, Built in 1999. Switched over everything to disk brakes. Good trailer.
My O&S is a 99. I'm having Pine hill trailers in Lancaster convert it to disc and extend the back 2 feet. My boat is a notch and the bunks never extended all the way to the transom. Its been ok for this long, but while I'm redoing the boat I might as well do this also. Where in Pa are you? I'm South of Philly.
O nice. Send a picture of how that turns out. The i beam did have some pitting, but nothing major. I scrubbed the areas and covered with anti corrosion spray. I’m out of Middletown PA area but boat down in the bodkin creek area.

Doesn’t look like much yet but started to fit the back speedos into the gunnels. It’s going to be kind of 3d with some sunken in and then petruding out a bit. I am doing a contrasting color around it. Also my 12” for the passenger side and the 2 7” and 2 9” Garmins for the dash came in so we will start forming the aluminum to send out for powder coat that will be the dash panel. It’s starting to move along
Good call on the Oak. Cypress is a good option too.
That pitting in the aluminum is likely due to salt-treated wood used for the original bunks. Even Myco just uses regular pine when making bunks for this reason. |
How's the dash panel coming along Dru?
The aluminum face plate for both sides are cut and off to powder coat. The bolsters are all mocked up and ready for upholstery. Marine Mat is making the floor after we sent them the design and now we are working on the side panels and rear bench. Probably middle to end of June. Decided to put the speedos in the back of the bolsters instead and f the side panels. Also got the front part of the rear bench about done. Here is a couple update pics. Thanks for asking. How is everything on your end. I am ready to boat buddy. I’m usually in all year or at least April 1. This is killing me
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...012e46044.jpeg So this is the front face of the rear bench. The eyes have lighting behind them https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...722352cd2.jpeg This is the side of the bolster. Tried something different. It will look much better once foamed and upholstered but I think it will look slick and different https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...75657ba4b.jpeg This is the bolster. The carbon fiber will be much smaller and recessed in the center of the back support. It’s real carbon and looks much more orange in the sun. The top is shaped like a u but will be less pronounced once covered and it goes with the design around the speedo in the back https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...27a10ea3c.jpeg This is the floor design with the honeycombs on each side and the racing stripes down the middle. The honey combs are just etched so not real bold. I didn’t want to overdo it. |
Thats going to look really nice. It will definitely be a custom look. What did you decide to do with the cabin door?
Mine is coming along. The trailer is done. The interior is finished, and the paint should be complete this week. Its a little daunting with the boat being in a thousand pieces right now though.
I know that feeling. We are doing a plastic similiar to the old 28 door but I may have to wait to the off season if it doesn’t come together fast enough. I’m not going to postpone the season any longer for a door. Lol. But it’s going to get done. Can’t wait to see yours when it’s finished.

Here are the dash plates that just came back. Now time for a test fit |
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...358787e9f.jpeg
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...2d7db3b1a.jpeg They fit great! Now I have the cut outs for the 5 Garmins , blue water switches and trim/tab switches. Just have to cut out the remainder of the dash and get these powder coated |

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...a06d4288e.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...81f15f092.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...ddc5de58f.jpeg Here are some seat pics. Started to lay out the back seat bolsters and got the carbon fiber inlays done on the front bolsters. Still have the same inlay being done on the back. The vinyl colors and material will really tie these together I hope. It’s really starting to move fast now |
That red carbon is badass!
Thanks. It was orange until it got the sealant coat. It looks more orange in the light but you like me thinks it looks more red in a darker light. But I appreciate it. Wanted something different and I think it will look bad ass when it’s all done. Just can’t come quick enough with summer passing by. But I will be ready by next ur rendezvous
