Rob,
Do your bolsters drop back or to the side? Chris |
They drop to the side.
I'm not sure I have a preference yet. What do you think chris? rob |

Rob,
I think I would like it better if they dropped to the rear. You're the same height as me, so you'll stick out of the standing up, too. If they dropped back to different degrees you could kind of sit/stand leaning into the V and still have something under your rear. Chris |
I've been told the rear drop outs can be annoying.
They tend to bounce into your legs more than side dropouts. The previous owner of my boat had a piece of velcro on the passenger bolster leg to attach to the seat. It would hold the seat against the cockpit liner. Did that make sense??? The boat had some foot rests that Pepe did over in Pirelli to match the cockpit. They should help me squat down in the bolster some more so I don't stick out so much... but that's what you get w/ a low profile/low freeboard boat. Maybe get some 4" cutouts like the new 28s. Wildthing, sorry I missed you. I had Barbie take me back to Ft Myers the morning after she took you to the west coast. I would have been nice to meet you and Ron. |
Yeah, I got ya. I think I need to get the foot rests.

Most of the new 24s that we are building now customers are requesting our custom race sit down seats. We still offer stand up bolsters with drop outs.We can have the drop outs go to the sides or to back.We use a pin to lock them down in to place so they are not moving around in the down position. The angled foot rest do help out while standing.

Those outboards sure do have quite a bit more cockpit space than the stern drives.
Chris |
When we power the 24' model with outboards most customer opt to go wih the extended cockpit option. We basically re - glass the rear bulhead approximately 2 feet further back and go with a smaller size sunpad. It does add alot more room in the cockpit.
JO |
Hey Rob,
Wait until you see your 24' now. Looks sharp !! JO:cool: |
JO, what'd you do to it? (and where are the pictures?)
Chris |
Thanks Jo, now I really can't work.
I wonder where my mind is... :D. I can't wait to see it, but unfortunately I won't take the wrap off it till the weather gets better. Don't want to ruin that great job you guys did! Thanks again for making this a very pleasurable experience. Which in the boating world is rare. |

I personally like an I/O for the 24' but my Father likes outboards. They both run great.
Here is another 24' SE powered by twin 225 Pro Maxs that went to Canada in 2002. JO |

How fast do they run with the 225 and how reliable are they? I've heard allot of complaints about the bigger(2.5' and 300's) OB not being reliable.
What year did you switch from mounting the OB's on the transom to OB brackets? Brian |

Hey Rob,
This will be you soon. JO |
Speeds with twin 225 Pro Max Mercs. in the low to mid 80s on GPS.
Reliability with the Pro Maxs seems to be very good. Late 80s we started mounting them on short offset brackets. Regards, JO |
By the way that is a 1999 24' SE powered by a 454 Mag MPI.My customer was out playing around offshore looking for waves to jump.Boat is located here in Miami.

Love that picture of the 24 in the air like that, but I am afraid I would have to go for a swim after that, just to flush the shorts out!!!!!! |
Originally posted by JO - PANTERABOATS Hey Rob, This will be you soon. JO Jo, I will fly you up to give me lessons! Right thru NYC harbor and into the Atlantic. Always nice rollers! |
Originally posted by rchevelle71 I am torn on which way to go when I finally get it together, of course I love the sound of the big block, but would also like the extra cockpit space, and the reliability, and easy maintenance of the O/B???? Are some of the older O/B ones set up this way at all?? unfortunately I dont think I will have the $$$$ to buy a new one anytime soon. Brian |
