Default 24 Sport question

Hello,

I have a 1998 Scarab 22. I'd like to get into a late model Pantera 24 Sport. The Scarab has a 19-degree deadrise, 3,400 lbs and, no trim tabs. The Pantera has a 24-degree deadrise, 3900 lbs and, 280s K-Planes.

Question: Would the Pantera handle small swells and big boat chop a lot better than the Scarab? Is there a night-and-day difference?

The Pantera is only a little longer in length, but do you think it would be a hugh upgrade? I boat on a lake in Minnesota, not the ocean.

Anything would be helpful.

Thank you!

Tom

My neighbor has a 21 or 22 Scarab w/ single OB.
My boat handles the seas much better than his.
He hates the way it takes on waves.
And I only have small Kplanes. The 24 is very sensitive to those 280s.
The 24 hull is a proven offshore racer.

So IMHO, there will be a big difference between the 2 boats.

Hope that helps.
I'd give you a ride, but that would be a long trip.

Good Luck.

No comparison at all. The Pantera is narrower longer and has a deeper dead rise. It will cut through anything our lakes can throw at it, even the big ones(Milacs, Leech, Winnie). It would make a great river boat. A 24 Pantera is on my short list for my next boat to run the Upper Mississippi.

OK,

I am post ho'ing a little,

just reread your post, and you said late model, I was wondering if you were looking at Georges 1978 24 footer. Might wanna take look there, it has been all redone, and is a lot of boat for the $$$$, I am personally trying to sell my boat, and come up with a little more $$ for it.

OK, just realized it is gone from the classifieds..............

Whats the story george????

Not to knock your Scarab, but there is no comparison.
I had a 1989 24' Pantera and now a 1997 24' Superboat.
These classic 24' long, 7' wide, 24° deep V boats will out run mosts 28' boats in rough water...
Good Luck,

Tom,
I can answer your question very accurately. I moved from a 22 scarab to a 24 pantera some years ago. There is a very big diff. in the way the two boats handle big chop and rough water. The Pantera will not beat you up nearly as much as the Scarab. The 22 was a fun boat, and power for power is probably a bit faster than the Pantera, but I dont believe you would regret making the move. I know I didnt.
