COOL, I like the "goblin green" paint job on the block. It should stand out nicely in the engine bay!!!

What are the specs on the motor?

Hope you're planning on external, full hydraulic steering!!

Re: an almost complete engine for the new 24

the engine is going on the dyno this week it should make around 550 hp ?? well we will see ?? and the boat is getting duel ram imco steering. so i hope it to be a sweet ride !!

Re: an almost complete engine for the new 24

the engine is a 454 .030 over 460 ci 9.65-1 with a comp custom grind hyd roller. Parts include srp pistons, scat rods, comp valve-train edelbrock victor jr manifold and 500 hp rectangular port 088 castings that have been gone through! well that is the jist of it !

well finally got it on the dyno today and it ran great made 535 at 5500 should run real well in the new 24 !!

How bout the torque?
I'm interested in what speeds you'll be running.
I should have the same setup as you.
I'll be dynoed in a few weeks.

It will run mid to high 70's

Stormrider 03-01-2005 06:56 PM

Re: an almost complete engine for the new 24

Check out this thread...
Jo says he's had 500hp running in the low 80s.
I guess we'll just have to see.

My good friend, T-Mone on this board, owns this boat. The best we've seen with an honest 585hp at the propshaft is 84 on gps. The motor made just a tick over 600 on the dyno. This was done on Tampa Bay with a slight chop. We still need to try some different props and I'm confident there is more top end in it but the boat spends most of it's time on Long Island Sound so it's proped for good midrange power upon re-entry. So your probably right it probably will break 80. Hopefully we will take the boat to Throttle-Up in St. Petersburg in a few weeks for their spring prop testing day. We'll let you know how we do.

Re: an almost complete engine for the new 24

I wonder what the weight diff is on a sport and SE?
Or would it even make a differnce?

And how do you figure what the HP is at the prop? and only losing 20hp?

Dangerous Dave 03-02-2005 06:57 AM

Re: an almost complete engine for the new 24

The propshaft hp come from the owners mouth. I think it made 618hp to be exact on the dyno, I'll call and ask him. How much power does a bravo drive take from the crankshaft hp? I always thought it was somewhere around 30.

I'm not sure about that number.
But Anthony told me he had the motor detuned to 585hp for reliability.

Re: an almost complete engine for the new 24

I hope the boat will run faster then mid 70s because i had a 24 baja before this that had a 430 hp 454 and it ran very low 70s but i guess we will see ??

power is as follows

rpm trq pwr
4600 526 460
4700 524 469
4800 531 485
4900 532 497
5000 523 498
5100 524 509
5200 522 517
5300 511 519
5400 515 530
5500 505 529
5600 499 532
5700 484 526

Re: an almost complete engine for the new 24

Hey guys just wanted to set everyone straight as to to exactly what I am seeing out of my 24. The engine was dynoed at 618 hp at 5800 rpm and was detuned to approx 585hp before it went into the boat to for reliaibility. This would be crankshaft hp. I am running a labbed 27 mirage plus and can consistantly run 81 to 82 on GPS in fresh water. These numbers are not inflated dyno numbers they are the real deal. 502 cubes with world products heads that have been ported by one of the best in the business. I could go on and on about the engine but it was done right. I to thought that i would get more speed out of the hull, and will try by testing props this spring. I will let you all know how this goes..

thanks... that's what i thought.
Anthony, I know how to get a few extra mph easy... come on down to the salt water. :D

Re: an almost complete engine for the new 24

Hey storm I look forward to running with you this summer, I do spend most of my time in the sound, wich i s where this boat really performs as you already know. And just to clear the air about the 24 I am very happy with the overall performance. It blows me away everytime I get it out in rough chopped up water. I just can't believe how well it handles the rough stuff, this little boat is amazing and the most exciting boat I have ever been in or driven.. If you are a lake person who wants to drag race it may not be the boat for you but if you are someone who wants to hammer in the rough stuff there is no other hulls in the 24 ft range that can handle what the 24 Pantera can..Anthony

I never rode in a 24 Pantera so I can't compare.

Those seats look cool in T-Mones boat. How high off the floor are they mounted?

I would think a 24 Pantera w/500HP would go 81-82 or more?

Elite Marine 03-03-2005 06:46 PM

Re: an almost complete engine for the new 24

T-Mone,

Do you find that you need a lot of port tab with your HP?

My 24 really needed it when I was running my 29P Mirage.

Dangerous Dave 03-03-2005 07:51 PM

Re: an almost complete engine for the new 24

Storm, nice boat, looks like your engine builder does a nice job. Good choice with the Stainless Marine exhaust, did you get the long bravo risers or the full through transon tailpipes. I just got a couple sets for myself and I like them a lot. I don't think reversion will be a problem but I'm sure your engine builder will know. Stainless welds a little piece of metal inside the pipe right by the bend to stop water from creeping back up. I'll try to take a picture.

Re: an almost complete engine for the new 24

Fountain 33 Your comp cam tell me you didnt put a cast cam in that motor comp loves to sell them?? And Stormrider salt water myth #1 boats run faster the reason many do is altitude not water so if you come from similar altitude you would see no difference, my boat ran the same in fresh and salt no diffrence in rpm or gps.

Stormrider 03-03-2005 08:43 PM

Re: an almost complete engine for the new 24

DD, I have the long bravo risers. The should come about 4-6" from the tips.
Bstubb, isn't salt water denser, therefore less slip in the prop.
And numerous people here have noticed gains between salt and fresh.
Just to check... i'll post in the general forum.
Altitude should effect HP.

B-Stubb 03-04-2005 07:45 AM

Re: an almost complete engine for the new 24

yes therefore createing more density for drive to push through but boat floats higher so its a wash

Stormrider 03-04-2005 07:57 AM

Re: an almost complete engine for the new 24

It seems all these guys in fresh water tell their speeds, then have to state that they are in fresh water. So i guess its just that they'd hope it'd be faster in salt. Oh well.

Some guys stated to have gained speeds in my gen. forum thread.
I'm in salt water at sea level, just the way i like it.
Except Havasu does seem to be a fun place.

Sorry for Hijacking the thread F333.
Where will you be running the boat.
I'm trying to convince my father to take my 24 with him to FL next winter.

1996 24' Superboat with a dyno tested 498HP / 454.
84mph GPS...
That boat is a light weight hull; maybe 1600lbs. vs 1900lb.
Standard hull, brobably 82mph... :drink:

Re: an almost complete engine for the new 24

i will be boating in Bradenton Florida, and Lake Erie Michigan. the cam core is cast iron but there will no problem. the motor made good power and will be very reliable, the dyno pulls were made on 89 octane also!

Thats a good deal.
I will have to run 93.
My marina only carries 87, but 93 is only a 10min bubble ride away, and has a great bar. :D

SB, JC is trying to get me down to your neck of the woods for a bit this summer. Maybe escape from work for a day. :D

B-Stubb 03-04-2005 05:45 PM

Re: an almost complete engine for the new 24

Thats positive thinking hopeing that a cast cam will work I have never made one work but I hope the best for you. Sustained rpm will kill that cam . Mine lasted 3 hrs if you baby it you may get a season out of it ,problem is that the cam is the hardest material in your motor it will eat your bearings and other things. Comp cams wont admit that it is a problem but engine builders will tell you dont do it.
