454 vs 502
2 Attachment(s)
I lost my lead on the 454 MAG EFI for my 24. I am now looking a 502 MAG EFI, Fresh, professional stock rebuild, all mercruiser parts, all new accessories - water pump, alternator, starter, etc ...
It's more $$ than the 454, do you think it's a better engine for the future owner and will the increase in cost help resale? Here's a couple pictures . . . |
Re: 454 vs 502
kirk,
looks like everything is there for you. How much more $$$. I have a buddy who has run his 502 real hard for more than a few summers with no problems. Not sure how much more power than 454 but i'm sure someone here can tell you. |
Re: 454 vs 502
Remember...there's no replacement for displacement. 50 more cubes is huge. Should be at least 50 more HP. 454s are antiques, unless you put a blower on them. 454 MAG is somewhere around 365 HP. 502 Mag should be somewhere around 425 HP. Almost 50 HP. +- plus you can do more with it down the road.

Re: 454 vs 502
I think its a plus.
Especially if you are gonna work the motor. 502 is a much better starting point. |
Re: 454 vs 502
Never compare displacement size..................
|
Re: 454 vs 502
The price just got closer for the 502 vs the 454. Its only
$ 500.00 more. It looks brand new. We're only negotiating a new ECM so that the whole package starts with zero hours. Should be a nice package with my 24. Let people know, I lowered the price even with the bigger power. Thanks for the input. |
Re: 454 vs 502
Have you ever had problems with your hydraulic steering with the rams so far off the crank centerline?
Thanks |
Re: 454 vs 502
None at all. I actually had to do the same to my 28. The stringers are right where the cylinders are suppose to mount.
The steering doesn't bind or have any issues. |
Re: 454 vs 502
For $500 go with the 502. Only 30hp difference but people WANT the 502!

Re: 454 vs 502
Pantera 28-650
I agree with bruce and mypantera28 there is no replacement for displacement. That sounds like a great deal and would make a nice pkg. for someone. Also to answer your question from the other day I do need to run a bit of port tab when running my 24.. Good luck selling the 24.And good luck with the 28.. Anthony |
Re: 454 vs 502
kirk, did you sell your boat? I see it's no longer in the classifieds.
|
Re: 454 vs 502
I didn't pull it. I have two guys coming to look at it when I get it out of storage. OSO dropped it a few weeks ago when they redid some things. Maybe they messed something up again.
Thanks for the heads up!! Want to buy it? Good motor going in as you can see!!! |
Re: 454 vs 502
Good luck Kirk... it should sell now, easy.
|
Re: 454 vs 502
Kirk, I would LOVE to buy your boat but it's just bad timing for me. I actually saw your boat for sale just before you bought it and talked to you about it(my username used to be blackhawk, but it somehow dissappeared)
I just sold my Donzi Blackhawk a couple weeks ago and I said my next boat would be a Pantera 24'. But I have other obligations(mainly my house) to finish first! I'm sure that by the time I get caught up and in the right position you'll have it sold. :( |
Re: 454 vs 502
Thats what short term finanacing is for. It will hopefully have the power installed in April and ready for demo in early May.
Hurry up with the house and park a nice 24 Pantera in front of it!!! |
Re: 454 vs 502
Kirk, this boat will be financed for long term no matter what! ;) IF I can crank out some numbers at work the next two months I will be calling you. Your boat looks awesome!
