Default 454 vs 502

I lost my lead on the 454 MAG EFI for my 24. I am now looking a 502 MAG EFI, Fresh, professional stock rebuild, all mercruiser parts, all new accessories - water pump, alternator, starter, etc ...

It's more $$ than the 454, do you think it's a better engine for the future owner and will the increase in cost help resale? Here's a couple pictures . . .

kirk,

looks like everything is there for you. How much more $$$.
I have a buddy who has run his 502 real hard for more than a few summers with no problems. Not sure how much more power than 454 but i'm sure someone here can tell you.

Remember...there's no replacement for displacement. 50 more cubes is huge. Should be at least 50 more HP. 454s are antiques, unless you put a blower on them. 454 MAG is somewhere around 365 HP. 502 Mag should be somewhere around 425 HP. Almost 50 HP. +- plus you can do more with it down the road.

I think its a plus.
Especially if you are gonna work the motor.
502 is a much better starting point.

The price just got closer for the 502 vs the 454. Its only
$ 500.00 more.

It looks brand new. We're only negotiating a new ECM so that the whole package starts with zero hours.

Should be a nice package with my 24. Let people know, I lowered the price even with the bigger power.

Thanks for the input.

Have you ever had problems with your hydraulic steering with the rams so far off the crank centerline?

Thanks

None at all. I actually had to do the same to my 28. The stringers are right where the cylinders are suppose to mount.

The steering doesn't bind or have any issues.

For $500 go with the 502. Only 30hp difference but people WANT the 502!

Pantera 28-650

I agree with bruce and mypantera28 there is no replacement for displacement. That sounds like a great deal and would make a nice pkg. for someone. Also to answer your question from the other day I do need to run a bit of port tab when running my 24.. Good luck selling the 24.And good luck with the 28.. Anthony
