Yes, we put in at Kent's Shady River Marina (I have always liked that Marina) on Sunday, went out in the ocean and behind Brigantine. I was looking hard for my father to find a race, but we raced no one. The boat was running 84 mph on Sunday, it has run 87 mph three weeks ago with very little fuel, going with the tide, and a tail wind on the Delaware river, and a little chop. (I bust my father nads because I was driving when it went 87 mph, he has not had it that fast when he has driven the boat), but when he drives the boat will run 85 mph to 86 mph consistently, but it always run at least 84 mph, with 5/8 tank of fuel, and three people on board (it was me, my brother, and my father). It just takes sometime to unwind beyond 80 mph, the boat likes to kite like a javelin, and you can feel the bottom come alive, it is a safe feeling though my description sounds unsafe, it feels very safe. Not bad for 502/415 engines with cast iron exhaust; the only engine mod is Pro Topline cylinder heads instead of GM cylinder heads. The drives are mounted very high on this boat.

We cruised out in the ocean at 43-44 mph, then 55 mph, and then 60 mph and I thought it rode best at 60 mph when we were out in the ocean on Sunday, that seemed to be the sweet-spot for ocean cruising without running too hard - 3300 rpms (60 mph), we typically cruise at 2900 rpms (saves fuel and easier on the equipment) @ 43-45 mph, with 32" Bravo props.

The Magnum he used to have would destroy this boat on acceleration, but if the race went on for a while the Phantom would eventually come on by.

Smarty,

Any new photos for us down in St. Pete? We were talking about the boat last Friday. Sounds excellent! 87 mph, the boat is all that.

Thanks!

Ron

Still no graphics, that will be decided this winter. Some running shots from this summer, we are cruising about 45 mph in these pictures.

The transom was never cut for exhaust until my father bought the boat. He now has the silent choice with cast iron headers (that will be changed this winter to Gils probably); the boat will run 80 mph in the prop exhaust position - (transom exhaust closed) - that mistake (leaving the exhaust closed) was made twice this past summer when racing, and we lost because of it.

Will Smith said it would run 80 mph with prop exhaust and with this power, and he is right on the money (with exhaust open it will always run 85 to 86 mph loaded with fuel). The bottom works great.

It is a little windy, but for me it is a ton better than the Magnum we used to have as far as eating wind. The windscreen would be a huge benefit. The windscreen is on the list of "to-do's" for the boat in the off-season. Enjoy your ride on Sunday.

1Hyper1,

Good to hear from you. We are most likely done this season, unless we get an 80 degree Sunday afternoon in the near future. Still looking for a bigger boat (Velocity)? How's that coming?

Bernie,

I do not have any pictures of the 34' with a windscreen.

I should have some new photos next month (maybe). My father has finally narrowed his graphic(s) down to three designs by Ryan Beckley, but has yet to pull the trigger. But first, he has some mechanical work (new exhaust, fuel pump[s], ECU[s], strainers) he is doing now. Probably closer to two weeks before we start our second season in the Phantom.
