A week long fun run? poker run? Around the outside of Lake Michigan

I'm wanting OSO members thoughts on putting together a week long run of somesort, around the outside of Lake Michigan. If we did put it together where would be the best ports to spend the night? They would have to be able to handle a large number of boats and have some place for us to have a big party every night. What do you guys think? Is this something boaters would be interested in or am I just dreaming? Oh course if we did do this it wouldn't happen until later next summer. Thanks for your thoughts. J.B.

I would be interested but the only time I could do it would be around Labor Day.

Yes I was thinking later in the summer after the lake had a chance to warm up alittle. There are so many beautiful spots on this lake, I was thinking stops like Bay Harbour, the sand dunes along the U.P. where we would be the only ones in sight, Door Co., Milwakee, Chicago, Michigan City, Grand Haven, Manistee, just anywhere where OSO members would like and where ever they would have us. LOL Keep the cost low, just enough to cover the marinas and the dinner partys, and we should be able to get some magazines to come along and cover the event. Just think about having a BIG bonfire right on the beach, just for boaters, no cars, no buildings, no noise (music of course) and watching the sun melt into the lake.

This could be a joint effort between some of the boating groups around the lake, every group could plan a stop and dinner party in there area.

sounds like fun but I think your dreaming.....Say if you started on the south end of Lake Michigan at Michigan city and ran around to port Huron you still need to get the trucks and trailers to the end point....what a nightmare. What about crappy weather? you can be stuck for days at a time. I guess you could get a charter bus to run people back to there trucks. I think I'd stay with a run more on the managable side....Holland to Mackinaw would be cool do a 100 or so miles a day and keep it so that if you lose a day you can still make it. If you get up to mack early you can still run the north channel or the chain of lakes to kill some time.

Hi Dyno, I'm talking going around Lake Michigan, not around the state of Michigan, That way we would end up back where ever we started. What is crappy weather? your not a fair weather boater are you? lol

There is a run from your area, (Grand Haven) to Boyne City and back, this Aug. 13th-14th www.wmpaoffshore.com I'm Handling the Boyne City end of this run, if you don't want to run in it you can still come up for the Hawaiian Luau and go boating up here.
