We picked up a "new to us" boat a couple of weeks ago, so we will try to make it too - we really enjoyed meeting everyone last year .... Haven't had a chance to get the new boat to WOT yet due to 1) fear of being ejected from the boat or 2) the boat breaking apart, due to the adverse conditions at Brookville, which is the only place we have taken it so far! Still trying to sort it (the boat) out. It seems to be real sensitive to trim, and I keep blowing the prop out . I didn't notice when we were looking at the boat, but there's ~ 1.5" of hook built into the hull so I'm sure that is why it planes almost instantly, though. Also, not sure what gas the previous owner had in it, but it would diesel when shutting it down after a "hard pull" during the couple of times we ran it. On a brighter note, my kids absolutely love the new boat. :party-smiley-004:

Brookville had no boats on it Saturday afternoon/evening, so after a couple of "hard pulls" (both kids behind the boat on tubes) burning off most of the fuel and letting the ambient air temperature cool down, we decided to try to squeeze all the mph we could get out of the boat ... nearly flat water, 2 people (left the kids on shore), ~ 63 degrees temp, low on fuel (but it only holds 23 gallons when its full :grinser010:), windshield closed, bimini top down and secured, cooler and livewell empty, trolling motor in the truck ..... and about 4 miles of clean, wide open lake. So, are you ready for this? :evilb: :evilb: 50 mph on the Alpha 1's pitot tube speedo (no gps). Should note that this amazing hull blistering, eye watering, "both hands on the (rack and pinion/cable) steering wheel" speed was accomplished with a non-labbed 3 blade aluminum prop (with no paint missing), against the rev limiter of that impressive 4.3L carbureted, thru the prop exhaust, 190 hp V6. PS: Factory test sheet (ie, their online brochure) says 49 - 51 mph, but we all know that individual results may vary. :D |
im in. be there
