Boyne Thunder 2012
Back to the drawing board. Several request for new course for Boyne Thunder 2012. Thought I would get this thread started as talks progress. Still talk about getting Elk Rapids put into the mix. Stay tuned as I get more info and input.
|
Open for suggestion to take to the board. If you would like you can forward them to [email protected] and I will make sure they get to board.
|
And this decision needs to be made before the first of the year. Bottom line is we want to have the BEST poker run with what we have.
|
The current set up is nice with all the open water. People really get to appreciate lake Michigan compared to all the smaller inland lake poker runs.
Elk Rapids hates power boats Maybe old mission point, fox islands, beaver island, bay harbor. Etc. Its really hard to make a great event better!!! |
This is a very hard one to figure out. The ports we use are awesome and really enjoy having us. If the current course gets enough support, maybe I can get them to keep it the same. Work on all your friends to give some feed back please!!
|
I can't say anything about your course, having never run it.........but the entire event was spectacular to watch. To me it looks like nice course with a good mix of open water and inland, with nothing too short in between stops. Either way, we'll be participating this year. Wife's already got the calendar marked:evilb:
Is there a posting somewhere about rules/regulations? Pending weather/lake conditions we'd like out 4 yr old to be able to ride with, just wondering if that'd be taboo or not. after seeing the caliber of boats down there only makes me wonder how fast the slowest boat is:eek: |

If you do bring the 4 year old, might be able to get some safe names for baby setting. Don't take any names from Dr T!LOL

I will keep thinking, no matter what we will be there, with our boat or on yours!! LOL |
Dr T can fit 10 people on his boat now!!! There would be more room, but he won't let anyone go down under. He is afraid someone might steel his Little River Band CD!
|
Course suggestion!
Boyne City 2 Elk Rapids 2 Northport then the long run 2 Bay Harbor 4 lunch then back 2 BC!!!! About 130 miles??????
|
Number one choice from BT meeting tonight-Boyne City,Elk Rapids,North Port, Charlevoix for lunch, pop back out to Bay Harbor and return to Summer Set. Time for more input, distance very close to present course.

Has Elk Rapids had a change of heart on offshore boats?
ELk Rapids has a very nice facility with that being said myself and a few others with offshore boats stayed there about 4 years ago for the fourth. The members were not too happy to have us. On the final day we recieved a standing ovation when we loaded the boats on the trailer. Yes, we were very respectful when it came the noise. It would be a great facilty if we could get Elk to participate.
|
I belive the card stop will be outside of the marina, that way we won't have to put up with the Blow Boaters BS, but nice to have a stop with fuel and nice marina near for mechanial issues, a little tough towing from Beaver Island

Good point on fuel and towing. Elk does have mid-grade fuel. Being towed from Beaver Island or idleing on one engine will make for a long day.

I like the idea of helping out Charlevoix, and the card stop outside of Elk Rapids makes more sense. Its not like Elk is a huge problem, its a beautiful marina, just don't want any surprises. Plus the current course is great like it is! Hard to perfect perfection!! LOL!
|
I'm excited 2 have Char involved! I have 5 restaurants signed up 2 participate! Hal at the marina is onboard & Ward Bros gas dock has said they would try & help out!!!! People in town can go down 2 the docks & Czech out the boats!!! since the boats will B go'n out & back in a couple X's, people can watch from the pier heads even more!!!:coolcowboy:
|
Was thinking about docking at Charlevoix, some of us can drop a anchor and my buddy Big Daddy will pick us up with the Boston Whaler

I remember checking out the marina at Elk Rapids before bringing my boat up there to launch in 2005 or so. And while I was there checking it out, I approached the personel (city employees) who were running the operations there and asked who was in charge. I was directed to a woman who is the Manager of the marina and I specificly remember asking her about boaters wanting to launch loud, offshore boats there. I also explained that my boat may be a little louder than some of the others. She was very nice and polite and she told me that many of the yearly slip renters (mostly sailboaters) in the marina do not like the offshore boats coming there to launch or being there, and I remember her saying they (the sailboaters) have bent her ear about it at times, but she said they don't manage the marina...she does, and she said she welcomes offshore boaters and has NO PROBLEMS with the offshore boats coming there as long as they were as respectful as possible with the noise. That was several years ago-----then I approached her again within the last year or so, and she basically said the same thing as she did the first time and she has always been very polite and proffessional. |

Apparently they think their chit doesn't stink!!! we don't want that in our program!! so when we say card stop at Elk it will most likely B a boat outside the marina area!!! FK'm!!!

Hiya Trace! Yeah, already been reading this whole thread. I have heard that too about many or most of the boaters there at Elk. I'm not really out trying to annoy anyone, but I guess I have always expected and accepted the fact that I am always going to hear some sort of racket whenever I am around the water. I am going to see if perhaps I can make BT for 2012---we will see. Anyway, a card stop just outside of Elk sounds like a great idea. |
We're in Traverse City and would gladly volunteer to be the card boat at Elk Rapids or Northport.

Glad your in!!!:coolcowboy: |
We can put a couple gas cans on the Turd Nor Tech for you. He will have plenty of room now. Make sure they don't leak Mike, hard to get that gas smell out of carpet!
|
Trying out the new name for T's boat, the 3rd 47 out of the factory, thought The Turd Nor Tech sounded good. All the Outerlimits guy's thought it was great.
