Boyne Thunder truly is a great event for both its participants and the charity. Being that last year was the first time I ran Boyne Thunder and the waters that Boyne utilizes, I have a few suggestions to assist the new poker runners that may have never boated these waters before.
If it is possible outside of putting the course map in the participant package (half the people didn't bother to look including myself) to lay several copies of the course map at the registration table and additionally at the tables where we do the drivers meeting and eat breakfast. Also included on the course map, low water levels, fishing nets as well as where the speed limits are. Another idea to keep down on litter would be to have a very large course map on display starting on Friday mid-morning where poker runners could congregate around and discuss the course. It would allow everyone to ask questions to the veterans about the course at their own pace.

Speed limit is easy, 55 in Lake Charlevoix(watched very close by DNR), you have to be 1 mile off shore on Lake Michigan before getting over 55. The fishing nets are a tough one. I find them in different areas all the time, I would hope Marshall boat and poker runners stay in contact to warn each other.

Link gives you an idea how to identify fish trap nets. The only non-Indian commercial fishing is south of the 45th parallel. Native Americans (Indians) can fish anywhere in the lake except refuges. Both non-native and native are required to use the same net markings. Some do and some don't.
