2017 Tickfaw 200 May 4th-6th (General Help and Info)
Seems that people were using an older thread (2015) to talk about the Tickfaw Poker Run. I started this to get updated information and for people to help out the noobs (me). The 2017 Tickfaw will be my first time there so any info would be nice. I am looking to rent a house and need to able to dock my boat with access to shore power. What is the best day to get down there, I was thinking about Wednesday or Thursday. Any insight would be nice.

2017 Tickfaw 200 poker, may 4-6th springfield Louiana
The dates are May 4-6 2017. As always for the past 25+ years the first full weekend in May. We run ran or shine with the cards stops open on the 5th and the 6th. You have the option to run it the traditional way in one day or split it up into two days. Card turn in is Saturday the 6th late afternoon time TBA. There will be bands Thursday Friday and Saturday night at the fun house located in blood river marin. With the bar open all day and night.
Hands will be $240 per hand. You will get a map/poster and acess into the fun house for the bands at no extra charge. There will be a drivers meeting(s) this year. after this past year and all the unfortunate accident its time to go over some things about the waterways. Boat launch will be open Wednesday till the canal is full. That means it may be Friday at noon or Friday at 5pm when the boats return from the run that day. Not to not to worry there is a public launch that is very nice I mile down the street. If you launch at the marina we take the trailer from you and use a tractor. Keeps it flowing fast and less issues. Boat parking anyplace you can stick the boat that not ropped off. the canals next door are also good to park In unless the home owner has sign or ropped off the dock. Campers spot are first right of refusal from the year before. So better let me know! It's $100 for the weekend. At this time it's full. We have a waiting list for for cancellations. http://www.bloodrivermarina.com has a full list of hotels and a printable mail in registration. It's says 2016 right now but will be ok to send in till the we people update it. Sponsorships are available to go around the map and on the T-shirt the banners in the marina the website and Facebook email me for more info on that. Any other questions Email me at [email protected] or call 225-445-2210 |
See you there

It will be here before you know it.
Hope to knock some of the dust off the boat before then. Getting ready to start rebuilding the house from the flood but I'm ready for summer and boat season already. We will be there!!! |
good luck renting a house with a dock. LOL
|
NY crew is coming back! cannot wait!!!!! most fun event we attended last year BY FAR!!
|
This is the first time for me to go to Tickfaw so I don't know what is available that's why I started this thread. I don't need a house with a Dock I need a house and a dock with shore power, they don't need to be in the same place.

I doubt you will find what you are looking for. Some people drive to the marina, launch their boat, then the marina takes your trailer off the truck at the boat launch and parks it for the entire event in a huge field on the main road by the marina. Your trailer has a number on it. While you are parking your boat around the corner in the canals that you leave your boat in over night, the 2nd person takes your truck and finds a parking place. The canal and truck parking is all at one location. No shore power. Once your boat and truck is parked, you can go put a lock on your trailer if you feel the need to do so. Enjoy the poker run and party at night at the marina. When it is time for bed, you go to a hotel and leave your boat in the canal overnight. If you have a cover for the cabin area, I recommend using it because of all the moisture and bugs at night. If nobody is going to be sober enough to drive, then I think there is a taxi service that you can get involved with. The next day, bring some towels to dry off your boat. It will be wet from the moisture and you will find some spiders to kill. When the event is over, you can go get your own trailer with your truck and you don't have to wait on the marina to go get your trailer. It takes two people and there is another boat launch around the corner from the marina. The best way to go is if you had a RV and could stay at the marina the entire time. That would be awesome. Good Luck.

If there is enough interest. We're trying to get a group together for a tres driving class the week of tickfaw 200.
|
Thank you, an RV is a good idea. Now I just need to find a friend with one.
|
Well it looks like I have a Class A RV a buddy will let me use, also may have a cabin and will know on Tuesday. Thanks for the suggestions. Now I have to find someone to go get my boat from Orange Beach and, once over with, bring it back. Looking forward to Tickfaw, Smokin the Sound, and Emerald Coast this year. Cya all there.
|
Just sent you a email. With hotel list in the area and who I would i'm in for transportation of the boat along with the registration
|
Got it sent you one back. Thank You.

2016 The organizers made retrieving your boat more difficult. The primary launch ramp at the Host Marina (Blood River Landing) would not allow boats out at the end of the run. SO those of us who ended up alone on that Sunday had to find a way to get the truck & trailer to the public ramp (not in walking distance) and then get the boat out. I had to rely on someone I didn't know, who didn't know my retrieval routine to drive my truck and 36' trailer to the public ramp, negotiate that cluster **** and pull me out. I was NOT happy, and ultimately scratched my hull from the GD winch crank. So plan accordingly, that last day trying to get out REALLY sucked balls. Not to mention the 4 hour wait in the channel for my turn.

I don't remember telling any they couldn't take the boat out. Other then on Saturday afternoon night because of the marina is full of people motorhomes and boats in the canal .. sorry for your issues with retrieving but can't with the amount of stuff and limited space we can't have the extra mess of getting boats outs while it's still going on. As soon as the canals is clear on Sunday it's a line of boats taking out at the marina.
If it was the guy on the tractor that told you that. He quit about half way through the morning on Sunday and will not be back this year. |
Good to know buy we will probably not leave till Tuesday.

I hope you resolve that this year for sure, I was not the only frustrated boat owner, that was a real douche-bag move on your tractor operators part.

damn casey I didn't know you had those issues last year. that sucks!!! anyone of us running a business knows how hard it is to find and keep good help...I know this only happens once a year but you'd think for the pay they'd take care of the people they are paid to take care of!
|
If you need shore power you can dock at Marina Del Rey in Madisonville they have slips with power and they are very reasonable. They have a launch ramp and trailer storage also. Been keeping my boat there for years and never had any issues at all.
|
Looking forward to the poker run, I had a group of friends that went last year and said its a blast. So we're joining them this year!! :ernaehrung004:

Saturday afternoon is not the day to try and pull the boat out in the middle of the party. Don't take this the wrong way, but I don't know why you would even want to attempt it in the middle of everything going on. I would use the ramp by the bridge if I wanted to leave.

But that info should have been publicized ahead of time so people could make better arrangements; especially first time attendees. Some folks like and/or need to get on the road at 0-Dark-30 the day after an event; not to mention if someone has an family emergency or similar. They may not be leaving at that moment, but like to get their rig together. Also, what if someone has a hull compromise and is racing their bilge pumps to get back on the trailer? If it's best to have the trailer/truck at a different location for a trailering/retrieval during and/or immediately after the event, then those logistics need to be arranged for ahead of time; with plenty of notification and information for newcomers and out-of-towners. |
there is also a launch on the other side of the bridge (tin lizzys landing)...not public but pretty nice as well, i'd check with them on the fee for pulling your boat out but it's not going to be ridiculous so it's worth a try. Not sure how crowded it gets over there either... I do understand the need and desire to pull out your boat asap and party though :evilb: its all a great time I can assure you of that!!! :coolcowboy:

How far is that from Bloodriver Marina? I understand that's where most of the parties are at. Where should I be looking to stay to keep the action in earshot?

Is Bloodriver marina where most of the parties at?
