Boyne Thunder 2017
Well, pre-registration is over and looks to have sold out in 5 minutes or so... excited for another year! Ready to get the dock assignments going!:party-smiley-048::boat::musik010:
|
I am amazed at how fast it fills up,
|
We decided last yr that we weren't coming this yr. It looks like we will be up at the 1000 islands run.
|
Damn it Mike... the humanity!!
|
Looks like my only hope is if AJ, Jordan, or Hudak breaks.
|
Is Boyne Thunder's plan to keep cycling this event thru the people that have participated in the past or are they going to allow new entrants a chance at participating? Here's the problem for us and I'm sure many others. I need to get my summer schedule set way in advance to plan my business, cannot wait until right before the event to know if we have a spot by going on a "stand by list, we'll let you know."
On one hand it's great that the run is sold out as fast as it did. On the other hand not opening up to new entrants can hurt the run in the future. Great problem to have. |
And I'm in........... :bunnydance::bunnydance:
|
Registration opens March 15th for new entrants.
There is no waiting list this year. |
Really should be a free for all from the get go, but who am I to say? Not the biggest fan of not knowing if you have a slip when you press the pay button, because that could be a deciding factor, but there are a lot of thankless hours put into planning this behind the scenes so really who am I to say it should have been done other ways?
Should be a great year, hopefully it's rough so we know who came to run :evilb: Kevin- no excuses this year bro! |

15 Spots being held for new or past participants that did not get into the March 1st registration. Opens 9am March 15th.

I am trying to follow along here as they do things different for this event than any other event I have attended. Pre reg meaning what ? and for whom ?
I just wanted to sign up and make the event from day one till its completely over. So the event is only for one driver and one passenger ONLY ? I have never been to this event and March 15 is another registration day to sign up ? I tried to get into the Pre reg online and I guess it was sold out or not available for a new entry ? I could not get anywhere with it. What is the best way for a new entry to get into this event ? And really need know ONLY Driver and ONE passenger can sign up for this event ? NO others can be in your boat for the poker run event ? |

You do not need to do that at the initial registration. |

The M-22 Challenge triathlon held just south of Traverse City each year is open to everyone on registration day. This year all 900 entries sold in 5 minutes. Prior entrants ***** wanting preference, others want a seed some want a year wait if you participate. It all boils down to never being able to please everyone. |

Pre registration is for past participants. It sold out in 15 minutes. On March 15, at 0900 EST 15 additional slots will be open to the general public. I suspect these will sell out in the first minute or so. Unfortunately (Fortunately?) there is so much interest in this event, there are far more people who would like to attend than infrastructure to support them. I would suggest taking your chances at 0900 on March 15 if you would like to participate.

Thank you for the reply and I will try to see what happens for getting in --- It won't be a lack of me trying that's 4 sure.. John |
The organizers did hear the plea from people who would like to get in. This year they held some spots for a first come basis. In the past it wasn't that way for new participants, you put your name on the list and wait to be called. I have tried to get in before but was too far down the list. Again, thank you to the organizers for letting some new people have a shot at getting in.

That explains why I could not get anything done on the Pre reg. Jeez 15 spots left for a new entry and new boat entries that possible could never make the event ? . JUST IMO man so year after year its the same boats in the run ? As for any spectators to see new boats showing up and I would think some poker runners would welcome running with some new blood for. this event ( NEW entries that never been). Something new to look at can only be a positive thing IMO. Just saying no intent here. Have to say cause it looks like a very longshot for us getting in this show from a comment " take your chances". I would pay now if I could for any entry.

John Why shouldn't last participants get first chance to register, we are the ones who helped grow the event to what it is. It's not always the same boats, many people upgrade boats throughout the years. Plus you only have to have attended ONE time to be included in early registration, so if you ran 8 years ago you get an early registration code to sign up first every year. |

No one is perfect, and no event is perfect. Boyne does an amazing job obviously, and the best part is anytime I have recommended an improvement.....And included a solution, they implemented it. Unfortunately there's just not a solution for every problem.

Only allowing 15 new boat entries is slim and a long shot for many especially for a State that still is a huge performance boating area. Its their event and I could never change a thing but will still try and see if I can lucky to get in. Had no idea it was basically a closed event. IMO it should be 50 % allowable new entries from the pre registration list offering it in a 3 day timeframe for new sign ups. . Just my thoughts. How many pre reg ? Thanks for all the replies to help me learn the ropes here. |
You can have a lot of fun working this event.

We gonna see you this year>>?? |
I have helped out w/ this event for years(as many of my FRIENDS here know) no dought, sponsors have become a huge part of this event! & they come back because they love & appreciate the event & the Great cause it stands for, & yes, take up a bunch of docks! But as the person that takes the Camp Quality cancer kids out 4 rides every year & C the look on their faces & knowing a bunch of this money is going to help these awesome children have a fun week at camp & try & be a normal child all be it for a short time is beyond words! It brings tears to my eyes anytime I think about it! Yes, we can't make this event for everybody but the biggest goal in my opinion is 4 the Camper Kids!! T

Not a chance. I stick to the east side in tinypeckerville

Well...I have a little dick, a small slow boat, and very shallow pockets.....
I can tell you I have had en excellent time and been treated great every year I have gone to Boyne, both as a volunteer and a participant. |
Watched the videos of last year run and did not see one single engine boat in the run. I understand it was really rough but even sitting around at the docks that were full, still did not see one single engine boat. If I get in the run, I will have a single engine boat - heck at least its brand new 2017 model that no one has ever seen before in person. That new fiberglass smell.
My thoughts in the back of mind - is hoping the last 15 spots are not on the buddy system for the new entries. |

Well I can tell you this, the first year I got into the run with the Avanti... I pressed send as fast as I could like everybody else the minute open registration began. Despite, knowing Bob, Tracy, and Pete for years before the run, despite having gone to boyne the two previous years as a volunteer to help, I was given no preferential treatment, no special code or none of that stuff.
|
Year before actually.....
And you think it was bad here...you dont see him several times a week...... lol. |

I share the same thoughts, new blood is rare. Hell every year all the boats look the same. Deep pockets and big dicks are the theme for this run in my mind. Registration Should be first come first serve no matter if you ran the year before or not.

Local peaple I chatt withe aroaund her think the same abouet it as I do. Maybe it's the videus online that make it look that whay. The avent is drivin by deep pckets. Deep pockets get you spotz in line, certain slipz ext. The phuckin workin man don't have a chance.
