If that`s your question then the answer is easy, there`s no such poker run.
Get some friends together and go running.

Bencini,

We were on KY Lake exactly once, when we bought the PQ, and we both rolled away agreeing that we'd never go back. Beautiful lake, but the channel marker thing gave me the heebie jeebies. I'm used to Cumberland, where, if you're in the water, you're in enough water (except Camp Earl Wallace, which is very clearly marked and is easily steered clear of). Then I read about the boat that hit a submerged tree during the Kattawa Run (not a log; a tree), got split from gullet to groin and sank is something like 43 seconds. I wouldn't mind doing the Kattawa Run, but that sh!t worries me more than the debris. Is it as bad as my mind has made it out to be?

Thanks. Brad.

The one that sank was 2 yrs ago and really close friends of ours, He cut to far outside of the marked channel for the marina inlet in a shallow area coming out of the lunch stop marina and ran over the top of an old tree stump. This was on Barkley Lake where the channel markers are very important. Ky lake is more forgiving if you get outside of the channel markers. I saw way more debris at Lake Cumberland this past year than I ever have on our 2 lakes here during boating season. Most of our debris is washed out during the early spring high waters. I do love running Cumberland in the fall run though.

What runs are left where there’s a good showing of hardware , horsepower , and the real poker run vibes my generation grew up dreaming about.

seems most events these days have become a glorified parade with go carts and fishing boats :food-smiley-007:

looking to plan my summer around other like minded people who want to really run. Are there any events left ? Lot of travel to truck a 40 skater around to put around at 90 mph and follow a pace boat.

*this is not an attack on the old guys and their outboards. And this is also not a post where can we be stupid. I’m just looking to see what runs these days have a good showing of big power left*

So back on this topic your interested in, it sounds like we should have a big block only run somewhere in the near future. I'm sure ICDEDPPL would be in, as well as quite a few others. My summer is mostly wide open and would love to see a get together like this happen. We go tie up on the water every weekend here at home, so I'm not going out of town just do the same thing. I love to run our boat with others when we get away.

I`m still not sure what Phil is looking for .. running but not wot? Long distances? Rought water and long distances, flat water and long distances , rough water and short distances......
Just running but I/O only?
if 90mph is boring then how fast are you going?
Over a 100mph you`ll lose 90% of the V bottoms so it`s cats only ?

I`m confused.:bigbird:

FPC KEY WEST POKER RUN - 160 Miles

Entire Biscayne Bay to run as fast as you want and then last 40 Miles to KW is the ocean. It’s usually rough. Bring your big, bad Skater and show up some OB’s.

My opinion, but the sport has evolved. Most people don’t want to run 160mph anymore in a big I/O cat. Too much liability with 6-8 people in their boat or deal with big giant power and the downtime, costs, or breakdowns.

From only my personal experience:

BOYNE THUNDER

Because it has a handful of boats with big power. Heck, we were in the 2nd slowest group and ran 90mph full out to the first three stops. It's a long run and big open water, nicely organized and not necessarily focused around a booze fest (Although you can make it that way if you want). I guess it's probably the best one in the country, or at least outside of the Key West run.

A lot of nice boats up there.

I've been on a few others that focus more on the party than the hardware.

Bencini,

Man.... If the channel markers are more important on Barklay than KY... Jeez. We bought the boat after a sea trial on KY, and the seller was almost helicopter hovering while I drove to make sure I stayed in the channel. He was downright paranoid, and he is a local that knows the lake.

Yeah. The debris was much worse this year than I ever remember it, too. There were times looking from our deck it seemed like you could walk across it out in front of Burnside. We're planning on making a guys' weekend of the ThunderRun this year. Here's to hoping it's better this year than last.

Thanks. Brad.
