Unfortunately not many of them left. I started doing poker runs in 1998 and pulled back around 2011. Happy to say I've never blow an engine or a drive in a single poker run. Self control keeps them together. Current engines in my Apache I built in the winter of 2014/2015...redid top ends in 2021..
Over the years life changed and so has the industry along with my priorities. Nowadays I like loud boats but I don't like loud music or outboards with a big crowd looking like a Cuban refugee boat. So basically I've become an outcast. lmao... Like I GAF. Different strokes for different folks... I've owned the same boat since 2004 which is also rare in this day and age.... These days I enjoy fun-runs the best. Getting to spend time boating with good friends and see my customers having fun. The Chesapeake Bay still offers a large amount of performance powerboats, poker runs and fun-runs thankfully! |
^^ NY Poker Run at its 2 or 3 yr Heyday was probably about as good as it gets/got. You know, as you were there. That said, I really enjoyed doing the Key West run a few years ago, but for different reasons

New York City and Jacksonville were the best back in the day. A lot of trash talking leading up to the flag drop and whoever was first to the bridge had the baddest boat at the event!! Every owner on the docks could go on and on about their setup from the boost pressure to gear ratio to cam specs and why their engine builder was the best….. Nowadays I would be willing to bet most guys with 150+ mph cats couldn’t even tell you their prop pitch….

think its more of a liability issue more then anything with the shotgun starts and the grouped by speed starts. that is why most moved away from them.
now where did all the big power go? no clue. did they all get cc or o/b boats? did they just park them? not a clue. did lots exit the seen once covid hit years back, think so. and the older crowed who had them just stopped. |

Just thought it would be fun to get a run with a whole bunch |
