38 speed with 750's?

Alright just curious, there are 4 38's with 750's and I am just wondering what they are seeing for speed? I think Robbie is seeing low to mid 90's with 675 Eickerts.

White with blue lettering - has surface drives
No Life Like It - has Bmax's I believe
Temper Tantrum - ? drives?
Maryland boat - bravo style drives I believe

Jupiter Sunsation 05-02-2007 06:33 PM

Leo runs low 90's with No Life Like it. Boat had 750 Chiefs with Bmax's. Heard recently it was getting power refreshed.

Cool boat, Leo is good friends with my buddy that built the black 38.

PPlay33 05-02-2007 06:44 PM

Lots of variables in drives, X-Dim,props,etc, but low too mid 90mph is what I have seen.

Is there only one 38 with black hullsides? I'm seeing it in advertisements in Poker Runs America with Fastfinance.com lettering on it.

cowisl 05-02-2007 10:03 PM

Yes...Manny in Florida. There is another one with navy hullsides in Ca

Manny is a great guy, he put the deal together on my Powerplay - he is quite the genius when it comes to financing! Out of about 5 or 6 banks that I was originally immediately approved on for my Powerplay, he was the only one that was able to make the deal go through. Banks I have come to discover, do not like financing boats that you are buying without engines and drives and plan on assembling....

Any pics of this boat? What does it have for Power? I don't think I have ever seen it before.

Yep, it is the same boat. It has the Playboy paint scheme: white deck, black gelcoat sides, silver accent stripe and a white bottom. Oliver was the original owner in N. Palm Beach until last year, then it was the OSO boat up north and now it is back in FL with Manny/ Fast Finance.

Brad 05-03-2007 09:13 AM

Are the Bmax's having any problems?

cowisl 05-03-2007 04:06 PM

I have heard that he has been having problems with them

MikeyFIN 05-15-2010 06:54 AM

Black 38 PP sunk at the dock in salt water, was repo'd, sold at National and ended up in the midwest (Oklahoma I think). Guy stuck some used 500's in it and was trying to sell it for 60K on boat trader. Boat was not really restored from the submarining.......

The 38, No Life Like It got fresh power and is sitting in an a/c warehouse without getting much use these days......

baja27 05-17-2010 08:33 AM

No life like it max speed is 90 it does have the bmax drives. It should be a lot faster with with a new set of gears 1.5, if you can still get them. It is a plain looking boat, but it still looks good.

Ted G 05-17-2010 08:54 AM

The Maryland boat has Konrads on it now and is running close to 90, I think he may have lost a mile or two when they changed from the Bravos. He has MDG 750's in it.

I made an offer on this boat a few weeks ago...

baja27 05-17-2010 07:35 PM

Spicy so I guess they didn't bite

Spicy 05-17-2010 07:41 PM

Nope.... I offered my boat and cash, they didnt want a 400SS

A 40 SS is a tough trade for Leo. 1. It wouldn't fit through the door of his warehouse and 2. he lives in a city where boats in the yard are a major no no.

Maybe just the way I wrote it???
Never spoke to the owner, my Broker spoke with his Broker. So maybe "they" are owner and brokers. :drink:

We never got into details, I offered, he or they said no, I went down to the marina and waxed my 400SS to put it in the water for the season.

Boat is nice if I sell my boat I will possibly make him an offer, but everytime I go into the classifieds something else strikes my attention...

Thanks Pat

Hopefully he changes his mind! It would be nice to have another 38 running around

New owner of "No Life Like It" here: Boat was running an easy 88 in fresh water, LOADED with fuel and gear.
1.5 gears are going in the Bmax's now. I don't know who the HACK was that had been working on these drives, but I wouldn't let them touch my bicycle.

Sorry to hear about the drives...boat is gorgeous. let us know your results

Fortunately I got to them before anything blew up. I broke a lower shift cable on the port side, decided to replace both cables. Then figured while I had the drives off might as well change the gears. Good thing, caught them before anything happened..... I'll just call it a preventative tear down, gear change and refresh. I'll post results in a couple of weeks. Hoping the 34 Bravo 1's the boat originally came with isn't going to be to big a wheel. I have access to some 32's if needed.

Shallow Minded 09-16-2010 08:19 PM

JMS - you gonna be back on the water in time for the Harbor Hop? Sounds like you caught the drives just in time...just slow down a little so I can keep up with you!

JMS322 09-16-2010 09:57 PM

We were planning on taking this weekend off anyway, obligations at home. I'm picking up the drives next thursday on my way to lake. I'll be back on the water next friday. If your around saturday give me ring we'll hookup for a couple of brews. We'll definitely be at the hop too. We should be on the water every weekend till it's to cold to boat.

FunHome 09-20-2010 10:18 PM

Picking them up on the way TO the lake?? Who works on your drives??

They're at JohnP's (waconda) / Bravo Shop in Union, Ne. They're Bmax's. Talked to him yesterday morning, lowers were done, uppers were going together. He's only 35 minutes south of me and on the way to the lake.

JMS322 11-09-2010 04:32 PM

Thought I would take a minute to update this thread. After 4 weeks of tweaking drive height, that's another story posted in another thread. The boat ran a solid 92 mph in it's every day trim. Leo told me the best he had BEFORE he switched to the Bmax's was 94 mph. There is probably a little more in the boat, but for now I'm good with 92.

Shallow Minded 11-09-2010 04:50 PM

good results but something is still off....the navy hull in California runs 100 with stock Merc 700/NXT's. My buddy Oliver had the black hull (former OSO boat, then fastfinance.com, then submarine, national liquidators boat) and knows every 38 Danny built. He drove the Merc. 700 boat in Lake Mead and saw the 100 tick by....he has been on Leo's boat and has had the boat on his lift in N. Palm Beach a few times.

Do the Bmax's rob that much HP?

I know the Bmax's do rob some power, but how much I don't know. From what I read most are losing 2-3mph when changing from the XR's. The best setup I found was with the propshaft depth of 3.5". The setup is different with the 1.3 gears. I might be faster with a slightly higher propshaft depth and 5 blade props, but it wouldn't be by that much and drive reliability would definitely suffer. The changes I made netted almost 4 mph and got me fresh drives at the same time. I would love to get some specifics on the setup of some of the other 38's. For right now I'm satisfied with the boats perfomance, but I'm sure over time more changes will be in order. We all know that the need for speed is a never ending process.

baja27 11-10-2010 07:26 AM

JMS322 did you change over to the 1.5 gears?

Little update on the "No Life Like It" 38.... Port engine supposedly fairly fresh when I got the boat (15 hours) was built by a HACK. Starboard engine was done by Chief and had 3 hours on it when I got the boat. It checks out fine. After noticing some oil pressure fluctuations, I decided to have the port engine pulled to take a look. We found two wrist pin spiral locks in the oil pan. Fortunately caught the problem before it exploded. Complete rebuild is just about complete and should be back on the water this week. The quality of workmanship left a lot to be desired. This time it is built right and hopefully we'll pickup a few mph. I'll post some results after I get it broke in.

John,
You dont get any closer than that! Good call on pulling it and having it checked out!!! Glad to hear you're almost back in the water...
