No 33 Powerplay ran with my Gladiator. Powerplay built a very nice boat and they run great for their lenght but the 33 is not a 38ft boat. Cigarette last won a championship in 2000 I believe in the F-2 twin step with Philly. Thats more recent than any powerplay or Areo-Tek! I mean come on DD, no offense but your 32ft boat is not going to run any of those speeds in 6 footers!!

Just wondering, Do you think a 38 Top Gun rides better than your 34 Sutphen?

Yes cause ours is very light. Now a 40 Sutphen I dont know!:D

I guess the correct question is do you think your Sutphen could run with a Top Gun in the rough with eqaul power. Thats more my point.

The Top Gun will out run us. We wouldnt be able to hang with it. In our old Gladiator that may be a different story!:D Im not sure why some people dont like steps, but they run just as good as straight bottoms in the rough. Another boat that know one thinks about being a great rough water boat is a 42 Fountain. With a good driver you will out run all of these boats!! Thats doesnt really have to do with anything just thought id throw it out there.:D

I am not trying to stir the pot but have you taken your boat out in the ocean? I have been on Lake George before when people have said it's rough out there and I can tell you it is very different from the chop of LI sound or the water off Block Island. If you ever get down to CT look m up and I will take you for ride, I think you will be impressed how an old heavy straight bottom does especially if it is rough out. I also want to sa I agree with Dan I was shocked to see how well twin step boats rode(after all I have read on heree)

First of all if resale is any concern for you go with Cig. I think Power Plays are a great boat, way better then a Baja or Scarab, but they are definitely no Cigarette. Go for a ride in a Gun and tell me what you think. This no knock on the Power Play but they are in different leagues. I do however believe that repowering your boat will be cheaper then upgrading to an 02-03 gun.

I think a Cig is way better than a Baja or a Scarab too. But to say that a Cig is in a totally different league than a Powerplay is arguable.:D

I think u need to say what power,,,a TG with twin500's is about 10-15 MPH slower then a PP,SP,or even my boat.
So u can't compare because it would only run 60+. And at that sped of corse we could all stay with it.

Now lets say @ 75-80+ it would be hard, but again it depends on who is in the boat.
To reach this speed tough in a 38 Cig or PP ,or any any other 38+ u need at least 200 HP a side more then in a 33 PP.
Now the drive is getting the weak link and u would need to go with SSM or so ,,,so u lose reliability. Thats my point.
Its not just how fast u go ,,its how far u go fast !!!!
But a Cafe ,TG is no match for a 33PP with same power if its not over 700 a side !!!!
Because they would need to run full throttle where the 33 can take it still easy because of the weight.
Like my boat ,,,i have a single engine in there , ~750 + on a heavy SSM and a tranny,,running ~90 with the big prop.
Show me a Cig with that power that runs that.
And its also a straight bottom ,just like a 33 !!!!!
As soon as u are on top of the water ,,all u have to do is keep it there and u run just like the heavy boats,,the only deferents is ,,they run thru the water where u run over it .

Get my point ?

Oh ,and by no means i try to downsize a 35/38 CIG,,,they are just not efficient any more,,,out dated.
By the way i had a 35 Cafe once ( a '87 ).

Again no knock on PP I would buy one before a Formula or a Fountain. And to answer your other question I have ridden in a 38 PP but like yours it was on a lake so I can't say much the ride through real slop.

I'm sorry you thought I was jumping all over you, I just didn't agree with your statement.

The only league they are diffrent in ,,is $$$$.
Because of the History and thats it.
I have seen the newer ones break easyer then a PP.:party-smiley-004:
And the old ones are just way toooo heavy for there size.

A friend of mine has a 38 Flat Deck,,yes fast and ruff water handling,,,with twin 1100 + HP and SSM drives.
U put that in a PP , a 38 it will be 20+ MPH faster and still handle everything . The same speed ,,with a little loss in ruff water u get out of a 33 with way less HP and more reliable.

THAT IS THE POINT !!!:coolcowboy:
