Swapping motors
 

Anyone on here with a 25' with outboards that rerigged to a pair of 3.0 litres? Was thinking of swapping out my 2.5's for a pair of 250 XS's. The 2.5's are mounted very close together. I'll have to patch up the holes in the transom and drill new holes for the added width of the 3.0's.

Just curious who had actually done this.

How many inches on center are your motors.....250xs can be done on about 24.5" centers but they will be CLOSE...by the looks of your motors you may not have to widen your bolt holes....

Talk to ED here on the board before you do anything.

George, someone else mentioned I may not have to redrill. It seems incredible. I thought the 3.0's were a lot wider. Got the boat all covered up for the winter. Gotta get in there and take a measurement.

Anyway, I'm planning to part out one powerhead and engine. The other is a brand new 225X block from Mercury with less than 40 hours on it. Motors are 2005's.

all you gotta measure is the tiebar length and you will know.....if its more than 24.5" you are good to go.....mercury reccomends 26" i think....i will check when i get to the shop tomorrow.....

my pair of 300x's are mounted 22 inches center to center. the covers for the 225x and the 300x is the same width but the 300x covers are taller ,thats all. i think with those 250xs u can just mount them on your boat and u are good to go.

this boat is mounted 24.5" on center....they are close but not bad....only issue is if you trim one motor and not the other they will whack one another....these are 2010 250 pro XS Merc 3.0 liters
