Setup!

In about a month its going to be time to rig the Cobra...were thinking of going with ITS boxes. Does anyone have any experience with a full stagger bravo 33 PP?
Heres the resto thread. It ok if I call myself a PowerPlay brother even though its a Cobra? :D

AJ POWERPLAY 09-04-2012 10:32 AM

Hell ya that's sweet! I believe 302Sport has boxes on his staggered 33 raceboat, but not for certain of his setup. Any recent pictures? Great resto thread

302Sport 09-07-2012 07:10 PM

#4's on boxes but it was converted to a side by side boat.....

AJ POWERPLAY 09-08-2012 10:22 AM

Why was it converted? Did you add a regular interior?

302Sport 09-08-2012 11:52 AM

Yup went to a pleasure style cockpit. The boat is now in the Bahamas with triple ob on a bracket.

AJ POWERPLAY 09-08-2012 12:16 PM

Your race PowerPlay is now an outboard pleasure boat?! Wtf

302Sport 09-08-2012 12:26 PM

Yeah nobody wanted to pay anything for it, so I knocked it in the head and ending up selling the hull to a guy in Nassau who had it converted.

AJ POWERPLAY 09-08-2012 12:47 PM

Chit I didn't know you were selling

302Sport 09-08-2012 12:52 PM

Sold it around Xmas time

AJ POWERPLAY 09-08-2012 01:00 PM

What motors were in it and what were u seeing with the staggered setup

302Sport 09-08-2012 01:19 PM

I never owned it when it was staggered but I had 540's making about 525hp and I would see around 90mph. Don't forget my boat weight 1800lbs for the hull and deck. The boat was carbon Kevlar with a 1 inch airex foam core and all up vacuum bagged. The lightest PP ever built

TeamSaris 09-09-2012 12:07 AM

Nice

AJ POWERPLAY 09-09-2012 03:13 PM

And u cut it up...? Seems like a tragedy

302Sport 09-09-2012 03:19 PM

The tragedy is that nobody would put the money where their mouth is.

AJ POWERPLAY 09-10-2012 12:01 AM

If I would have known it was for sale I would have inquired on it... One of my favorite boats

TeamSaris 09-10-2012 02:40 PM

Anyway,
Anyone have any experience with this rig?

I got an estimate from Saber to have the transom notched and repaired at the same time when I had the trs drives for the boat. I think that ext boxes would be the way to go . All the staggered pp race boats had them with 3 or 4 drives.

The Muscle race team ran a black one, staggered with speedies. Sempter fi on here had a stagger Bravo setup. Steve1 on here might be able to point you in the right direction also. Can't wait to see this thing done.

POWERPLAY J 09-10-2012 04:01 PM

There was a staggered Bravo setup on one with a green interior out of Miami. Had big power and I was told it chine walked pretty bad.

Im thinking EXT boxes will work well too, i cant see it not liking them.

The B61/B1 boat? Outboard in the Bahamas?

302Sport 09-10-2012 05:04 PM

Yup that's the one

Did one back in the mid 90s cant remember the completed config. It was a full stagger with Bravo drives so close that the prop diameter choices were limited. I never drove the boat, but it supposedly ran in the teens with big power. Not sure if it was on boxes or not, but I understood it to be a real handful to drive. Airex Raceboat B61/B1 ran just under 100 with 600HP, 4s on boxes. My standard lay up pleasure boat ran 106 with big cube Pontiacs and 4s on the transom with a 10" notch. This boat was the most stable Powerplay at high speed I ever drove including the race boat. If it were me, I would probably do Bravos on boxes in a stagger setup.

Sorry had to re read and edit. Head up butt.

maverick 09-10-2012 07:41 PM

yes

Keytime 09-10-2012 08:44 PM

I'm sure I read it and forgot, but what happened to the The Love Muscle boat?

maverick 09-10-2012 09:18 PM

Last time I saw it was at the shootout at Lake of the Ozarks ran by a couple of guys from here in CO I think.

TeamSaris 09-10-2012 09:41 PM

My boat doesnt have a notch, so i think the ITS will be crucial. Would like to see 95 with the 700s

Dont see how it couldn't run in the mid 90s with that setup as long as the CG is still good and weight is reasonable.

I have hundreds of pictures and videos of that boat starting with it in the mold, through Brian rigging it, to the first test with the 425 Mercs. Kind of tough to post them all, but I still have a soft spot for that boat. Best of the best.

It is a heavy boat, and if anything weve made it a little heavier up front. BUT we made our own light hatches, etc.
WHen my dad first rigged it it had trs, trannies and old school props...it ran 80 with 500hp SBCs. 95 with 700s will be a stretch but its the goal

maverick 09-12-2012 06:14 PM

Get to work and let us know how it turns out..

I am a Powerplay guy. Burn all that chit and send me a disk! Do you remember a 95, prob one of the first out of the new mold with the sport fish graphics in a hot pink with 500's??? If so that is mine.

PPlay33 09-12-2012 08:52 PM

I have a friend with 700 n/a motors tha has boxes, shorties, and raised engines that runs over 95. You should run 95 with the right combination. Good luck!

bwd 09-16-2012 04:19 PM

Ever thought of putting a notch in it ? You guys can do any thing up there I hear. Btw, Will Smith has 1 or 2 its's for sale I think.
