Thinking of going back to PP. Know of one with 525's but seeing what else can be bought. Prefer bigger power...

Stormrider 06-28-2013 12:21 PM

Why?

flysfloatsor 06-28-2013 12:55 PM

Ive been wanting the Blue outboard one... Like you said (or someone) you never see them because they are always out being used instead of at the dock with the hatch up and someone halfway hanging out of it.

Don't get me wrong, my 42 was an awesome boat, but unless you are out doing poker runs all summer there really is no way to justify the extra cost for the extra 20mph. Here's the breakdown of one summer:

Rack: $6k
Insurance: $7400 (26 years old)
Fuel: $11k
= $26k give or take with no maintenance issues.

Talked to the guy who bought my boat over the winter and he put about 20 hours on the boat, ran flawless, then one engine went kaboom, blown head gasket burned a hole in a couple pistons. Checked the other engine and that head gasket was leaking too. $60k later he is back up and running. I feel like the verge of a docile, reliable engine, 200+ hours is right at around 1000hp, once you go over that you are asking for trouble.

There's a 33 with 525's for sale?

Yeah older boat, was converted to 525's. Not listed anywhere. When you going to buy one, they're getting hard to find???

Good question. Gotta fund a lift and dock purchase right now, but I'll be getting more serious with time. Just keeping my finger on the pulse of what's out and about now. I'd like to go '97 or newer, too, which shrinks the market even more. I dug the '05, but the timing and the price just weren't right for me.
Also not ruling out some other "hot rods" out there. The Superboats and Phantoms are cool as well, but I think the 33 PP is a more well-rounded boat.

Even though I don't have one, I enjoy reading the threads on the PP's and keeping up with them. I appreciate everyone letting me join in the banter. :)

Yeah, maybe if you're comparing someone w/ 600 hp hanging off the back to someone w/ 2000 hp under a hatch. Otherwise w/ "mild power" I don't know who's losing their boating time to engine work all the time...

rlj676 06-28-2013 03:25 PM

double post

AJ POWERPLAY 06-28-2013 04:28 PM

I think that used to be owned by Semper Fi on the board here, had a nice Myco built for it. He would probabky know where to find it or who to contact.

88bullet 06-28-2013 05:50 PM

302Sport 06-28-2013 06:23 PM

Yeah, I would also consider the six person boat if somebody could find it...

I drooled over that when it was in the classifieds. Does anyone know what it ran? Really sweet setup.

POWERPLAY J 06-28-2013 07:26 PM

I think I talked to Dave at MDG a couple months ago about something else but had asked him about the Powerplay and he didn't know where it was.

92 ish i believe? boat was mint the last time i saw it,,

302Sport 06-30-2013 10:46 AM

Where is that boat?? Would be a slick setup with some Arneson conversions so you could keep the full stagger and still have a six man cockpit. Arnesons and some NA 800's, that boat would be a fun little rocket.

I had a number for a guy in Chicago area rumored to have one sitting in a warehouse. Ended up being the same white one that was in FL. Big question is why did it get painted? Damaged? Bad layup? The first few years the glass was subcontracted out. I think it was 90/91 when Danny brought it in house. I was told to stay away from the early ones.

Saw a 33 Powerplay on blocks tucked up beside a house on South Bimini a few hundred feet from the ferry docks. It had similar paint to the staggered race boat that used to be on the Powerplay website. Boats sitting uncovered in 3 ft of weeds in the Bahamas doesn't usually get them back in the water anytime soon.

No idea, saw it from the road. Next time you get to Florida take the new Bimini Superfast express over there ($49 each way) and it departs twice daily so you can go see it for about $100. New express is supposed to start running daily this week.

Boat is on South Bimini about 1/3 of a mile from the shuttle docks sitting on blocks up against a house and it is easily spotted from the road.

POWERPLAY J 07-01-2013 04:39 PM

What a shame...

Bimini has lots of "what a shame" stories. Saw a 4 stroke Yamaha stripped and laying on its side in someone's front yard.....pretty sure they didn't pay retail for that unit, plenty of abandoned houses/ 1/2 built stuff. Stripped boats, planes, golf carts all with stories to tell rotting in the sun.

What most people won't tell you is the Bahamas is a ghetto with an accent! The resorts are nice but the locals section of town is usually rough.

POWERPLAY J 07-01-2013 08:56 PM

I can imagine. I've seen half naked kids playing with worn out truck tires in puddles beside the road in some countries. Pretty sad...
