baja27...

There ya go...believing what you read on the literature again! Guess who was part of the team that tooled up ALL the PP 33's? Yup. Me! Guess who was responsible for having the literature printed? Yup. Dan. Having been in the business of manufacturing, design, testing, sales, etc., of Offshore Powerboats for more than 25 years, it kind of irks me when ANY boat builder decieves the customer on boat length. Believe me, it ain't just PP either! FrequentFlyer...I too have personally owned a 25' Fish PP, among others, & am well versed in their contruction & performance. In fact, I helped build your boat when the original purchaser bought it new. Great running hull, considering it's lineage. It was taken from a 22' Apache Scout & lengthened, which, by the way, was really only 21' 2" in length. I know this is a fact as well, because I built them. I'm sorry if I think too much like an engineer, in black & white with no "grey areas". It's just me. Ed;)

OffshoreOnly 03-06-2004 10:08 PM

Ed is bitter but I put a tape measure to my 33 and he is correct.

Miami 03-07-2004 06:22 AM

Ed - what were your responsibilities in the tooling of the 33? Was it the original hull or the taller one? Regardless - someone did a great job!!

srv - boy am I jealous. That new 38 looked great @ the Miami show. Fit, finish & paint were as good as the best that was there and performance with the 525's was equal to most of the other 38 footers.

TO THE WOOD - what year & power do you have? How long have you had your PP. How come I have never run into you?

baja27 - 650's ...... way cool!! Are you in the same low 90's as PPlay33?That speed must be awesome

Jake1250 - I am the guy that has Dave G's old boat. It it a low deck ( older, lower hull height ) with a recent pair of 500EFI's. The 33 & the 25 currently in Daves shop are sweet!!! Good Luck on your new purchase..... you can't go wrong with that piece.

To All Above - I boat in the same area as all of you! I boat about 125 hours a year but they are mostly to EGO Alley. Occasionally my wife will allow me to join you guys at Jelly fish Joel's or Red Eyes. i keep my boat on the South River. We go out every Friday afternoon, sleep on the boat ( a difficult task for a 6'3' guy in the low deck version ) and do not go home till Sunday night.
I would love to run with you ALL - warm weather is around the corner!

PPlay33 03-07-2004 07:45 PM

Hi Miami, how are you? TO THE WOOD has a very nice 96, with 525sc's and a 5man bolster. Our boats will be back on the bay in early April, after the Sarasota poker run.We will all have to get together as soon as it gets warm. There are at least 6 or 7 of us happy Powerplay owners around here now! See you soon.

TO THE WOOD 03-07-2004 09:29 PM

ED, I CHECKED THE APACHE THREAD DID'NT SEE ANY MENTION OF THE WAY THEY WERE DECEIVING THERE CUSTOMERS. I ALSO CHECKED FOUNTAINS THREAD,NO MENTION THERE EITHER. HOW BIG IS THERE 35FT BOAT. WHY DON'T YOU GUYS START A NEW SECTION ON THE SITE JUST FOR BASHING DAN. I'M TIRED OF HEARING IT ABOUT DAN. I JUST WANT TO TALK TO OTHER PEOPLE THAT OWN THE BEST 33 FT, NO I'M SORRY 32.7FT BOAT BUILT TO DATE.(ANY ONE READING THIS WITH AN APACHE OR FOUNTAIN I'M JUST ANSWERING POST #44)

TO THE WOOD 03-07-2004 09:41 PM

OFFSHOREONLY , I WAS'NT THE BEST IN MATH BUT HAVE TO SAY ED IS INCORRECT 32.7 IS CLOSER TO 33 THEN 32 . I WOULD HAVE TO GUESS YOU HAVE NEVER BIN IN A 33 POWERPLAY IN ROUGH WATER. IF YOU HAD YOU WOULD'NT BELIEVE YOUR TAPE MEASURE :p (I KNOW IT'S YOUR SITE , BUT PLEASE "FOR THE LOVE OF THE SPORT" ASK EVERYONE TO BASH DAN IN A DIFFERENT THREAD. THANK'S :) :)

Miami 03-08-2004 08:22 AM

PPlay33 - good hearing from you! I am fine.

a poker run in Sarasota ...man am I jealous. Looks like I took my FL vacation at the wrong time.

Come April, I do my obligatory outdrive service, tune-up etc ..and will be ready to run. Have a ball in FL, be safe and see all the Powerplays when the weather turns warm.

Ed 03-08-2004 08:42 AM

Let Me Repeat Myself...

One more time for your benefit...In the "Powerplay Section"... The hull length of a 33' PP is NOT what the literature states. Not to mention, when the original 32' Cobra hull molds sides were raised 4 3/4" in 1994, it was sized to fit the existing deck parameters. This, in effect, shortened the hull running surface slightly. Use this information as you please.;) Ed

baja27 03-08-2004 09:38 AM

To the wood and PP33, I having my boat shipped to Tampa Bay for the week of April 5 th. Plan on crusing around there for a week then I will be trailing her home. I know you guys plan on doing the Sarasota run are you going home after that or do you plan on hanging for a while?:)

TO THE WOOD 03-08-2004 03:59 PM

baja 27 were are headed home on sunday the 4th any way you can come sooner & do the poker run?

Miami 03-09-2004 08:04 AM

Ed - what is the exact length of the pre 94 hull ?Please, this is not to be argumentative. I just want to be informed. ....Thanks in advance

Paul

Ed 03-16-2004 08:54 AM

Friend Selling His Year 2000 Powerplay...

He bought it used back in 2001. It has a very flexible forward deck area around the hatches, due to the lack of deck support or bulkhead in the cabin, which has lead to cracks extending out from the deck hatch holes through the custom paint job. This was evident when he purchased the boat from the previous owners estate(the gentleman was somehow thrown from his PP & drowned) This problem was brought to PP's attention when he first bought the boat, and was told they were not responsible for the expense to repair the problem. He said they offered to repair this structural problem for a large sum, which my friend did not have at the time. This cracking has gotten worse over the years. So... he is selling it and moving to another brand. Possibly a Nortech, such as other recent PP 33' owners have done, like Billy Ruddy(Peddle-Pusher) & Ozzie(Wizard of Oz), among others. ;) Ed

Semper Fi 03-16-2004 12:09 PM

Ed,
We know you have a "hatred" for Dan at Powerplay. Dan has his problems, but he does build an awesome boat. I for one am extremely tired of you jumping on EVERY SINGLE POWERPLAY post an adding your negative input. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but we have heard it 100 times.

It is noted that you and Dan had some problems, whatever it is, but if you can't add to the "positivity" of this Powerplay post (or any other) then please go elsewhere. We have all been in a bad position with someone else where they ripped us off or owed us money, but we have heard enough of your fight with Dan and Powerplay.

I just purchased a 33' Powerplay and I love it. I have wanted a 33' PP for 2-3 years now, and now it is no longer a "wish", but a reality. I want to enjoy this post and other Powerplay threads and meet other Powerplay owners who love this sport and their boats.

jody165 03-16-2004 04:08 PM

Ed, get over it or go post somewhere else. Like Semper says, it's gettin old around here.

I empathize with your issue but we're done hearing about it.
:o

Jake1250 03-16-2004 06:27 PM

TO THE WOOD

I should have it all wrapped up in about a week....Dave has been a pleasure to deal with and I encourage anyone to use his services. He also is the Spectre dealer in Maryland and a top notch engine builder......

TO THE WOOD 03-16-2004 06:54 PM

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY DECK THAT ED IS TALKING ABOUT. I KNOW HOW MY BOAT WAS RAN BEFORE I BOUGHT IT , AND I KNOW HOW I RUN IT NOW . THE BOAT WILL RUN IN 5FTERS AT OVER 80 MPH . MY FRIENDS POWER PLAY IN KEY WEST WAS RUNNING WELL OVER 90 IN 4-6FTERS .MOST BOATS CAN'T RUN IN THESE CONDITIONS OR WOULD BRAKE IN TWO. ILL LIVE WITH MY STRESS CRACKS . I TALKED TO OZZY IN KEY WEST HE LOVED HIS POWER PLAY,HE BOUGHT A NOR-TECH CAT ,POWER PLAY DOSE'NT OFFER A CAT. I THINK IF YOU LOOK AT ANY BOAT YOU CAN FIND SOMETHING WRONG , IF THE BOAT WAS ROUND LIKE OTHERS WITH NO 90 DEGREE ANGLES IT WOULD'NT CRACK. I'M NOT HAPPY WITH THE STRESS CRACKS BUT ILL KEEP MINE. :D :D :D

Miami 03-17-2004 07:45 AM

Ed........ perhaps the original owner of your friends boat stuffed the boat soo hard, he lost his life and the boat came through with some stress cracks...... why wouldd dan fix that for free? Perhaps your correct that Powerplays don't hold up well - Bob Teague said that his old Powerplay raceboat was still going strong with the new owner, I think the " Thee Muscle " raceboat aftyer campainning in APBA for two seasons was sold and two years later won the fastest V bottom @ Lake of the Ozarks shootout, I think that same boat is still around as there was a picture of it in Poker Runs, I believe most of the members of this Forum have bought their boats used and they all hate them and I have over 800 hours on mine and have NEVER had to tighten a screw or bolt........ Just a few examples of what a horrible boat Dan produces

I hope the rest of you realize I jest!

TO THE WOOD....... 90 in fours..WOW. That must be PPlay33. He knows how to run that boat and loves to push the sticks forward ( P.S. that is a used Powerplay )

Jake1250............ second your opinion of Dave. For those of you who do not know Dave, he is a local engine builder ( supplies motors to Spectre ) mechanic and boat dealer. He is honest, knowledgable, talented and timely ( a rarity in the service business ). He has races and or sold Fountains, Cigarettes, Panteras and Powerplays. He had a USED Powerplay as his personal boat. He Liked that boat so much, he now scours the country looking for used Powerplays. He usually finds one or two a year. He cleans them up and resells them. He knows how well those hulls hold up!!!!!!!!

Semper Fi........ congrats on your new Powerplay. What year and what motors?

Most of us who have purchased our Powerplays are not novice boaters. We have had many boats previous to the Powerplays. We did our homework and tried to spend our hard earned money wisely. We made our selection because the boats look great, hold up well and have a rough water capability that is equal to or better than most boats in their class.

Sorry to all for being so lenghtly. I am a middle aged man with nine previous boats to his credit that absolutely adores his USED Powerplay!

Very well said Miami!I look forward to seeing all of you this Summer on the Ches.
PPlay33 I would like to run you this summer, what size props are you running now.

ED:chimp: WHAT BOAT DO YOU OWN????

Ed 03-17-2004 08:52 AM

The PP 33' WAS, Without Question...

A well contructed boat. I know this well, and am very intimately aware of each example you have mentioned, construction-wise. Being involved with production, etc... as many years as I was at PP, I could tell you each boats strengths & weaknesses. The production boats, I assure you, were built completely different, than the pleasure boats, including a lot of experimentation in laminates, stringers, bulkheads, etc...and is all part of the performance/race boat manufacturing "game". Some experimentation "worked",...others did not. Case in point, the 33' PP raceboat campaigned briefly in the early nineties, while racing in Key West, breaking apart, killing it's owner & severely injuring his throttleman & navigator. Sempfer's recently aquired 33' was constructed on a "budget" by it's original owner, Mr. Bob Lawrence, who was at my home on several occasions, during the constuction of his boat, discussing paint design, rigging & construction. That boat's fiberglass lamination schedule is NOT a "race" lay-up in any way, but is a well built boat. PP has not produced ANY new 33' fiberglass boats in well over six months, as they have not had possession of their 33' hull mold in as many months. So...the used market is still your best bet, in more ways than one. Ed:)

Ed 03-17-2004 09:04 AM

Baja27...

What boat do I own? I don't own a boat. Why?:)

jody165 03-17-2004 09:47 AM

Ed,

Thanks for the helpful information. I for one, appreciate your positive and informative approach that I now see.

Jody

Sabre 03-17-2004 10:13 AM

Ed/Edgar Heinrich/Gar

Once again your information is incorrect and misleading. It's obvious you are going to continue to bash Powerplay. Powerplay is in full possession of all their molds and is building 33's on a regular basis.

You've been on every Powerplay thread trying to cause trouble, and you have upset alot of Powerplay customers.

Miami 03-17-2004 02:22 PM

Baja27 - how was Sarasota. I am running 28P bravos. Comes on plane nicely, cruses well and gets between 80to 83 on GPS. I have always had hydromotive Q4's on boats. I am contemplating a trial of 27 or 271/2" Hydromotives as they carry the stern higher and may present me with a larger topend #. I am conservative, however, and spend most of my boating life below 4000RPM. Cannot wait to run with you, PPlay33 & To the Wood. Should be on the water by 4/15. Time to burn some fossil fuel on the Bay!!!!!!!

Indy............. Dave Govatos, MDG Performance Marine, 410-956-5381. He buils, dynos, riggs, water tests and assists in the dialing in process. He knows it is not just cubes and horses but making it all work together.

Ed......... You can be a tremendous resource for this forum. Rather than tear down Powerplay and Dan, you can be a large help. Since Dans financial pittfalls, many of us would be reluctant to send him monies for parts. You could tell us where to procure his proprietery " push type " electrical switches, that cool flooring he uses or the unusual Euro hardware he has an option. I myself am looking for the manufacturer he uses for his pop-up wind deflectors. I need the width & height for the ' low deck " version. Help such as this would endear to this forum and you could lose the antagonistic approach.
Ed, perhaps you could offer to perspective buyers of used Powerplays your knowledge. If you knew the boat they were looking at, you could tell them the pluses or minuses of that particular hull. I believe that that is the true spirit of this forum and it's members would be appreciative. If I wanted to have a verbal fight with someone, I can go upstairs and have one with my third wife:D

Ed - thanks in advance for your HELP.

Miami 03-17-2004 02:36 PM

Indy.... sorry, I'm a little scatter brained. MDG Performance is located in Annapolis Maryland...on the Chesapeak Bay

A real nice guy who did everything he promised and more.

I would recommend him to anyone !

Indy 03-17-2004 03:12 PM

Thanks Wes...if I didn't have this stupid garage/addition looming over me this year, your PP would be sitting in the driveway right now. Priorties...bah

Miami...thanks. My family is from MD and I'm in the Annapolis area all the time, I'll have to check out his shop sometime.

Miami 03-17-2004 04:59 PM

Re: The PP 33' WAS, Without Question...

Ed,
Now that's the kind of info we want to hear. You have a huge knowledge of Powerplay's and we like to get the scoop from you. I was told Bob built the boat with a budget in mind, I guess that's why he opted for the cabin area to be unfinished. When I looked at the boat last weekend, it was in great shape. I didn't see (honestly) one stress crack anywhere and the paint still looks almost pefect. It runs extremely level in the water, I guess due to the staggered engines.
Do you know why he wanted the Sylvester with Tweety in his mouth on it?? My girlfriend loves the Sylvester (we have a black cat) on the boat.
Thanks,
Gerard

Miami,

I bought the white PP with the all red interior.

Awesome boat. I traded it in on an Apache and my understanding is that it has been sold already.
