Tell me about the 33 Powerplay...
I don't know much about the brand but the 33 looks pretty decent. I'm pretty much locked on ordering a 32 Sunsation Dominator this winter but thought I'd look around in the meantime. How does the 33 compare to the Sunsation? I'm gonna get one (32 Sun) with a set of 496HO's loaded up pretty good with options at around 156,000 "MSRP", and I think I can get it for around 113-116K all said and done. What could I reasonably expect to pay (MSRP is fine) for a similarly configured 33 PP?...
BTW, what kind of performance would I be looking at with 496HO's and can it handle the confused onery waters of the southern Chesapeake Bay/Atlantic area?... |
I have outboards so I am guessing, but I would guess 76-78 m.p.h. with the twin 496ho setup. I think sunsation makes a great boat, as I live in Michigan and see a bunch of them, however they are very small for their size. With the included swim platform the 32 feels more like a 30 footer. I love the fact that when you hit/punch the side of their hulls it hurts your hand because they are so solid though. Anyway goodluck with your new boat, and if the price is close or a little higher I would definitely take a hard look at a Powerplay- you will not be dissapointed. Darren
P.S. as for those onery waters, I would choose a powerplay everytime, I was out in some 6-8 footers about 3 weeks ago and I couldn't believe that I was running in them first of all, and 2nd I couldn't believe how solid the boat felt when it came back in the water after rolling off of the big lake michigan rollers. (my .02) |
What few pictures I've seen they look a little bit like the Active Thunders from above and a little like the Cig from the side. For a fairly standard package with AC, vacu-flush, standard graphics, and twin 496HO's what would be a fairly good guess on the "MSRP" for this kind of setup? Also, how's the warranty support, is there dealers or is it like AT where you'd have to take it down to the factory for anything outside of the Merc parts? The cockpit kind of reminds a little of the Apache also, not so roomy either especially bench to bolster...
:D THE 33 POWERPLAY IS A 40FT. BOAT , WITH A 33FT.PRICE TAG. I RUN MINE IN THE CHESAPEAK BAY AND THE WATER CAN'T GET ONERY ENOUGH!!! IF YOU HAVE NOT ALL READY BOUGHT A BOAT ,LOOK REAL HARD AT IT . IN BIG WATER MOST PEOPLE DON'T GET TO LOOK VERY LONG. I'M WITH DARREN, YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Reckless,
That's why I bought a 33 just for the reason mentioned above. Handles the water great. It is no comparison to the Sunsation. Take a ride in both and you will see. By the why I'm in the Ches all the time ;) |
hey 27 baja? guess you got a new boat, were do you boat in the ches,we should hook up.We have 3 other 33's we boat with, down by the bay bridge. Are you doing any of the local porker runs? 2 may be 3 of us are doing the N.Y.city run in june.I did it last year, water up there is perfect 3-5's just like our powerplays like it! :D
OK, I currently have a 28' Active Thunder. I am seriously looking at the 34 Superboat, 32 AT, and 33 Powerplay. I like the Active thunder because it has allot of free board and a huge cabin. My wife and I sleep on our boat allot. What is the cabin like in the 33 Powerplay? Can you get them with AC, tv/dvd and a porta potty?
I can't speak for the quality now, but when I worked there WE put a lot of emphasis on quality. Powerplays were always a great product when I worked there. There are quite a few of members on this forum that have worked or still work there that might be better suited to ask about the state of the company. With the State of the Company post a few weeks ago I'd be concerned that to save money there might be some corners cut, like I said I don't work there now that's just what I'd be concerned about. Gary and some of the other guys watch this forum and will probably chime in also. I am surprised that Dan doesn't post in here though.

Hey Chris, My buddy has a 32 AT that he's getting 625's built, nice ridding boat. As far as the cabin goes there about the same, and yes you can get all the toy's in them. Go to the Miami show you will see a bad ass 33 there!
New Active Thunder 33' AVH...
I agree Baja27...That new Active Thunder 33' AVH looks great! Can't wait to see it at the Miami Boat Show! Ed:)
baja27,
Thank you for the reply. I am going to seriosly look at a 33 Powerplay. |
After touring the Powerplay factory, they are the best built go fast boats we've ever seen. We've been to several manufactures and have never been impressed like this. The ride is unbelievable too!
We ordered the new 38 SS and can't wait - the cabin is awesome. We boat on the Chesapeake Bay - is there anyone else around that area? Were actively involved in local poker runs but never see any Powerplays. Look forward to more posts! |
srv...
When do you expect delivery? Did you purchase an exsisting hull/deck at the factory? Or will you be starting your own build? What power are you going with? And also, what customers 38' did you demo in? Ed:)
SRV ... I BOAT ON THE CHESAPEAKE BAY , WERE EXACTLY DO YOU PLAN TO RUN THE BOAT? WE BOAT NEAR THE BAY BRIDGE . I RUN WITH 3 OTHER POWER PLAYS ALL 33'S . DID YOU SEE THE 38 AT THE MIAMI BOAT SHOW ? IT WAS KILLER. HANDS DOWN POWER PLAY HAD THE TWO BEST QUALITY OFFSHORE BOATS ON DISPLAY. I LOOKED AT THEM ALL , THEY HAD THE BEST
ATTENTION TO DETAIL I SAW. ANYONE THAT DISAGREES TAKE ANOTHER LOOK!!!!WHEN YOU GET YOUR 38 I WOULD LOVE A RIDE. WHAT POWER DID YOU GET? GOOD LUCK WITH THE NEW BOAT , HOPE TO SEE YOU OUT THERE!!!!!!!! :D :D |
Good choice, the pics from the show look sweet. We all need to know power choice.:D DK
Ed/To The Wood:
We expect to take delivery mid-late May and yes it's to be built. Our hull is currently coming out of the mold - when we saw it a couple weeks ago. Were getting 525s put in. We boat overnight a lot so we needed all the amenities. We rode on one in Florida about 4 months ago. The boat owner (Oliver) was very generous to take us out for a ride. To The Wood: We boat all over the Chesapeake Bay. Annapolis/Eastern Shore area a lot - were keeping our boat at Turkey Point Marina in Edgewater this year. Were actively involved in CBPBA and attend most events. In fact we saw a 33 Powerplay last year on one of the poker runs. We'll have to hook up over the summer. Are you a CBPBA member? |
WOW!
srv...Are you saying it will take approximately 6 1/2 months(or 26 weeks) for Powerplay to deliver your boat?! WOW! Ed:eek:
Hey SRV, I can't wait to see you this summer in your 38, I have a 33 , and boat in that area also. Hopefully plan on placing an order for the 38 soon.:D
That's awesome - there will be more Powerplay's in the area.
It takes longer because their boats are custom - not mass produced. You can design almost anything you want in the boat. I wouldn't say 6 months - maybe now, but we ordered ours about a little over a month ago. See ya. |
SRV, YES I'M A MEMBER OF CBPBA , JUST JOINED . WE DO A LOT OF POKER RUNS . WITH THIS MANY POWER PLAYS ON THE BAY WE'LL HAVE TO ALL GET TOGETHER AT ONE OF THE RUNS. :D I WOULD LOVE A RIDE WHEN YOU GET IT. I CHECK THIS SITE DAILY SO KEEP ME POSTED. WE ARE GOING TO THE N.Y. CITY POKER RUN IN JUNE IF YOU A INTERESTED LET ME KNOW.
BAJA 27 , DO YOU KEEP YOUR BOAT IN PA.? DID YOU GO THE KEY WEST POKER RUN? DO YOU HAVE A PICTURE OF YOUR BOAT? WHAT POWER ARE YOU RUNNING? I THINK WE MAY HAVE MET IN KEY WEST?

POWERPLAY!!!
I am making a deal on a powerplay right now....Althought the Sunsation is a nice looking boat with decent performance, it cant even compare to the Powerplay....Sorry Sunsation lovers.....I had a friend with a 01' 28 and it was in pieces after a poker run on the Potomac.....the boat was a month old and we didnt see anything bigger than 2 footers......Powerplays are vacume bagged constuction, impeccable wiring, flawless interior, and will handle 6 footers all day without even a creek or rattle......There are a few clean Powerplays available on the market....better resale values, ....oh hell....simply an awsome boat.......Just one boaters opinion
TO THE WOOD
You said your on the Chesapeake....Do you Dave Gavatos old Powerplay? If so, your a lucky guy....Awsome boat...very clean! I will see you out there soon in my newtome 33'!
JAKE1250, NO I DON'T HAVE DAVE'S OLD BOAT. BUT IT IS A NICE BOAT. DID YOU GET A 33 YET? I THINK DAVE HAS TWO OF THEM FOR SALE . THERE ARE GOING TO BE MORE POWER PLAY'S ON THE BAY THAN SONIC'S SOON . I GUESS IF YOU CAN'T BEAT EM JOIN EM:D
Dave and I have struck a deal on his 33', so it should be in the driveway by the end of the week.....He does have a 25 with a blower motor left....I undestand that his old boat is still in great shape and the guy loves it. I cant wait to pick mine up and hit the water...I have been thinking about doing the NYC Poker Run, so maybe we can get a group of powerplays to go to it...I look forward to meeting you guys this summer......Sonics......the last thing the Chesapeake needs is another Sonic! Hail Powerplay!
Hey Jake, congrats on the Powerplay . What power does it have in it?
Baja27
502 mpi's with exhaust....we may put on a few efi goodies, Powerplay's run so well you dont need to do alot to make the boat hit the high 70's-80 mph range. I will most likely keep it stock....I am ready to enjoy boating for a while instead of pay into the horsepower race! I leave that to the guys with bigger wallets!
CONGRATS JAKE1250, WE HAVE TWO POWER PLAYS CONFIRMED FOR THE N.Y. RUN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HEAD UP WITH US LET ME KNOW . BAJA 27 YOU SHOULD COME ALONG AS WELL. IF YOU WANT MORE INFO SAY THE WORD. POST SOME PICTURES OF THOSE GREAT BOATS.
To the Wood
Thanks, I am gonna check the Calender but I think I will be able to make that one.....Just curious....do you live on the Magothy? I think we have some mutual acquantences....D. Miller with the Skater? I think we met at his old house along time ago...I was talking to Dave Gavotos and he said there was a guy on the Magathy with a Powerplay that used to have an Aerotek, ...thought it might be you..
Tothe wood, I did the NYC Run it's not for me . It only takes 2-3 hours and it's over. The poker runs down in Florida are way better and also in the Ches. Hope to see all the PP'S at Red Eyes.
JAKE1250 THATS NOT ME , BUT HE IS THE OTHER POWERPLAY I BOAT WITH . HE WILL BE ON THE SITE LATER TODAY.IT WILL BE GREAT TO BOAT WITH ANOTHER POWERPLAY.POST A PICTURE OF IT WHEN YOU GET IT. IF YOU GET IT SOON WE ARE GOING TO SARASOTA FL. AT THE END OF MARCH . :D

Jake1250,I am the one on the magothy river. Congrats on the powerplay. A friend of mine was trying to make a deal for Dave's boat also. Post a pic if you get a chance. To the Wood and I are going to Sarasota, let us know if you can make it. Looking forword to boating with all the powerplays this summer!!!
hey fellas just got the videio from the Key West run. There's alot of footage with your boats in there:D
Fever Mike...
Before you call the 33' Powerplay a "full" 33' boat...I would recommend that you measure one(any year or model). I think you will find them to be a whole lot closer to 32' in length.;) Ed
Ed
I guess you must have failed math class, because 32.7 is a lot closer to 33 than 32.;) |
Alright Gar... Now you are starting to piss me off a bit.. You have problems with Dan... Fine.. But to negatively impact every single PowerPlay thread, I think is a bit much. . The PP 33 is a HELL of a boat. It whips all other manufacturers a$$'s. Whether it's 32 or 33 really doesn't matter as these machines can go up against most 35-36's with no problems. I agree with you in that I would not give this guy money to build me a new one but the fact is these boats, including my 25 are kick a$$. If you can get your hands on a used one... It's one hell of a boat and anyone that doubts that... Take a ride on my Open Fisherman..
