Default Insurance Woes

Safeco, after collecting premiums all winter, has decided to cancel my boat insurance due to speed.

Anyone have any experience in this area?

That would piss me off. Try Beale Marine and Casualty, they gave me a great rate.

I had State Farm insure my 1997 290 Enticer for about $625 per year. Maybe cbgenrl AKA Wally can hook you up as he works at State Farm in Illinois.

I've got State Farm as well on my 26 Legend at $325 a year $100 deductible. I do know the agent told me once you break the 26 mark the price goes way up. Also I've made a habit of avoiding the how fast question. They have a book the states speed and normally is about 15 to 20 mph shy of true speed. While I has at the dealer picking mine up a couple weeks ago a guy was buying a 38' Poker Run Addition PQ and was quoted $3,800 a year. Talk about killing a deal. The insurance companies now days have a little to much influence on luxury items purchases.

I talked to Safeco today. They said they went to a boat test website, BoatTest.com, and looked at the posted speeds. The website said "over 80 mph......" That is why I was dropped.

The said they do not insure boats that go over 55 mph. Guess they should have told me that before accepting 7 months worth of premiums.

I have 4 weeks to find new coverage. Once again, Thanks Safeco. I will check out all of the places mentioned above. I really do appreciate the help.

I have Boat US on my 1996 290, about $700/year. I might shop around a bit now that I see what some others are paying, but it was quick and easy...

$670.00 through progressive on my 2001 29 pq.
Had country companies before but they dropped me 1 month ago saying they won't insure a boat that goes over 55 mph.
So I changed all 3 cars over to progressive also.

State Farm @ 630/yr on a 97 Enticer. Scared to make a claim though!

I recall being asked by my agent "is it a needle nose type of boat?" My response: "Hell I have never seen one of those but I bet they don't have room for the fridge, micro, and pump out head that my boat has!"
