Dumped The 7.4 For A 454mag 26 Legend
Well I did it and traded the 7.4mpi for a 454 mag. And i must say Im quite impressed so far with the results. I ran it solo and it was at 70mph on my speedo, didnt get a gps read on the topend that day. But with 4 guys 2 kids and a huge cooler it ran 60.2 GPS at 4350rpm( not wide open it was to rough saturday.. With the 7.4mpi with only me and my wife and 2 little kids the best I saw GPS was 52.7mph. The mid range acceleration is awesome now! I will do some more testing and let you know my results.

Its a 454 MAG EFI. I will have some actual GPS top end numbers to post on sunday. How do you have you boat loaded when running 63mph? What do you have for a prop? Im not sure but I think with just me and my wife and 2 little kids this boat may hit 65? Im just going by how easy it hit 60mph with 4 heavy guys,2kids and 60beers,and I wasnt at max rpm

I think what you'll find is a top of 62-63. I can have her loaded down and still see 60 mph. With just two people and some trim she'll hit the low 60's. I've yet to talk with anyone that's gotten anymore. I'm running the stock 23 Mirage Plus 3 blade for a prop. My last Powerquest was a 23 Conquest and that boat would run 60 with 1 person and 60 with 10 people. Weight had no effect. THe only thing slowing it down was a lot of drag of the hull.
Did you buy a new motor? And what prop are you using?

PQConquest- I have a 23' PQ Conquest with the 7.4, 330 hp Merc, and the best I can do on the GPS with a 14 3/4" x 21' prop is 52 mph @ 4600 rpm's in a very slight chop. How did you get 60 out of your Conquest? Do you remember what prop you were using?
