Default Speedo V.S GPS

I was pleasantly surprised this weekend when I checked my Speedo accuracy with a GPS unit and found it to read only 1mph faster than the GPS. I must be an exception based on other numbers I’ve seen on this site.

Mine is pretty close too. Under 60 it is right on. At wot it reads just a tick under 65 and gps is 62.7. I use a handheld garmin. I think the handhelds are good because you can take them in the car or keep them when you sell the boat and they are pretty cheap, around 200 bucks or less.

My speedo blows........ its about 7 MPH slower than my GPS 172C, which by the way is a kiler unit. Get them on e-bay for about 425.00

I bought a cheap Garmin Etrex for $100.00 which seems to be a nice small unit with a good quality screen. I simply placed a small vecro circle on the back and a small circle on the dash to hold it in place. seems to hold well with no drilling as well as I can take it with me to prevent theft.

If your speedo pickup is in your bravo 1 drive, get a piece of throttle cable, place it in a drill and clean it out. If a piece of wood or something is clogging the hole use a 7/16 drill bit to clean it out.

Or, drop the $ for a GPS.
