I also owned a 2001 290 and it had just under 200 hours on it and it also had no cracks in it anywhere. PQ makes great boats and I agree that no manufacturer is ever perfect, but when you had a question or needed something from the fatory they were there and would work with you direct. I wanted a shower on the 34' and the factory sent me everything including the directions just last sping. I have never had a boat manufacturer that would do this. Quality is what gets you to buy the first time, but service after the sale is what keeps you coming back and from reading this site it is easy to see the PQ owners keep coming back again and again. Lets just all hope they start back up and continue to make great boats and still have the level of service they have alsways had.

Owned?! Did you sell it? You wouldn't happen to know the Regnier's, would you? I work with Linda (used to be Stenzel) as well as her sister.

Not something anybody would want to admit on their resume.

I think Wally should buy the Vyper, you can buy Wally's boat, and then maybe we will consider you worthy, and Wally will quit making fun of you.

Those don't indicate structural damage, just Gel that is too thin or too thick. It was mostly around the back of the boat.

Not knocking PQ here, but then again I had 450 hours on my Sunsation Dominator after 5 seasons on LOTO that did not have a flaw in the gel.

Besides some spider cracks, the PQ was a great boat..

Owned 2 PQs 29 &38 and not a single stress crack. I dont see the great finish in Sunsations. Maybe you can explain it to me. Pretty plain if you ask me. Friend has an 02 288sun that has a fake step and a full length pad under it! I think I'll run right out and buy a sunsation. NOT! :evilb:

I wasn't knocking PQs. As far as styling, each person likes different styling.

As far as glass work though, the fit and finish on my dominator was better than my PQ. Not making any general statements here, but as far as the boat I owned from each company, the 2000 Sun had better glass work than the 98 PQ. The PQ had a more spacious cabin and cockpit. One drawback of the Sun is the small cockpit.

Tim sold it and bought a 38 the one that riverview had at Chicago last winter.

I also have friends with Sunsations and I would have to disagree with you, I feel that they are built very, very well. As a matter of fact I looked hard at a 32 before buying my 29, but we just wanted a bigger cuddy. It just depends on what you want.

I was mainly talking interior finish, it isnt even close IMO. Not knocking Sun. I was @ a show this fall and was looking at a sunsations' deck and notice outlines and roughness in the gel. I asked the guy about it and he said" looks like they need to clean their mold cause it is suppose to be non skid"???? Looked to me where there is a insert for a bow rider??? Worst finish I have seen on a boat.

I never said they werent well built. I just dont think a fake step and 15' pad under a 28' boat is cool. Interior finish isnt as good as PQ, IMO. I really dont care cause I will never own a Sun., they dont appeal to me. They are really to completely different boats and arent really comparable. BTW its MACKIN. :chimp:

There is a small square pattern in the molds for the decks for the Sun cuddys. It is not intended to be the smooth finish that would be similar to the sides of the boat. There would not be an insert for the mid cabin, they are separate molds.

Again, personal preference. There are plenty of boats with smooth finished decks on them.

There are lots of boats with pads under them too. Generally it gives you a bit faster, and bit more stable ride at high speeds. As far as the step between the chine and outside strake, again, matter of styling. It does not come into play when you are running hard and straight. It does come into play on hard turns. For the last couple years the 28s went to a full step. And the new 32s have full steps too.

Interiors are all done by McLeod now. Have been for a couple years. But I agree with you on the non McLeod interiors, I did not like them either. That's probably why most people took the upgrade, and in the end that is all they offer now.

I know PQ also had an option to upgrade to McLeod, but most of them I have been in use the factory interior. I really liked the factory interior in my PQ.

What are they for?
