Nice comments boys. Yes we like our PQ's
Looks like 357 went back to his cave. :evilb: :evilb: :evilb: |
Re: Powerquest Factory
There are a few older 257's that run up and down the Illinois river where I boat a lot in the summer. I still get chubby every time I see one. Had a certain dealership in LOTO not trashed Mental's 270 Laser when they had it in their possesion for 6 months, I would have bought that boat in 2000 and would still own it today. And Wally would still give me chit about starting my other engine. Wally, I saw a 340 Vyper this fall in the old quarry south of Henry. It anchored up next to us for a bit. I believe he said he was from Wenona. Boat was SHARP. Ginger might actually want to be seen in that boat. :evilb:

I also think its bull$hit that some people that do not own a PQ come to this site and post negative things about PQ, most of us that own PQs like them and we have spent a lot of our hard earned money on our boats. this site is were all of us come to share info about boat so no body should take any of this personal. :drink: |
Re: Powerquest Factory
Reading this post just sucks. I had a PQ 280 and a 340. They were good boats. They were built well and were quite roomy. So if anyone comes back bashing PQ - FU!
Now back to the title of the thread: What IS going on w/ PQ? Any one know the latest? This is a shame, they were a good company to deal with and made a good valued product. I sincerely hope someone snaps up the company. MK - You can surely shed more light on the current PQ situation can't you? |
Re: Powerquest Factory
If Sonic can make a comeback, surely PQ can. Not baggin' on Sonic, just think PQ would have more of a following.

Re: Powerquest Factory
I drive by PQ every day on the way to and from work and quite often at lunch and there has been NO activity.
Prior to PQ completely closing the employee count was thinning for quite some time judging by the number of cars (or lack thereof) in the parking lot on a daily basis. They hadn't bothered to mow the lawn this fall or plow the parking lot this winter. Now with the phone getting disconnected and the website going down I think the handwriting is on the wall. I think its a fair assumption that PQ will not open up again under the current ownership. I don't have any details on TMB buying the place, but if I had to bet, I would say it does not look good based on how long it seems to be taking. As I mentioned previously I don't see how PQ fits with their acquisition criteria and I don't think it was in their best interest to let the current ownership close the doors. I would really like to see PQ come back - it was a great company in the past and has a very loyal following so it would be a shame to let 20+ years of developing a product / brand / following go to waste. I owned the 34' and you have a good memory. I am from Wenona. That 34 had over 325 hours on it and there was not a crack to be found and it had spent the first part of its life on Lake Michigan. I also owned a 2001 290 and it had just under 200 hours on it and it also had no cracks in it anywhere. PQ makes great boats and I agree that no manufacturer is ever perfect, but when you had a question or needed something from the fatory they were there and would work with you direct. I wanted a shower on the 34' and the factory sent me everything including the directions just last sping. I have never had a boat manufacturer that would do this. Quality is what gets you to buy the first time, but service after the sale is what keeps you coming back and from reading this site it is easy to see the PQ owners keep coming back again and again. Lets just all hope they start back up and continue to make great boats and still have the level of service they have alsways had. Tim |

I think Wally should buy the Vyper, you can buy Wally's boat, and then maybe we will consider you worthy, and Wally will quit making fun of you. |

Not knocking PQ here, but then again I had 450 hours on my Sunsation Dominator after 5 seasons on LOTO that did not have a flaw in the gel. Besides some spider cracks, the PQ was a great boat.. |

As far as glass work though, the fit and finish on my dominator was better than my PQ. Not making any general statements here, but as far as the boat I owned from each company, the 2000 Sun had better glass work than the 98 PQ. The PQ had a more spacious cabin and cockpit. One drawback of the Sun is the small cockpit. |

Jmaklin I also have friends with Sunsations and I would have to disagree with you, I feel that they are built very, very well. As a matter of fact I looked hard at a 32 before buying my 29, but we just wanted a bigger cuddy. It just depends on what you want. |
Re: Powerquest Factory
I was mainly talking interior finish, it isnt even close IMO. Not knocking Sun. I was @ a show this fall and was looking at a sunsations' deck and notice outlines and roughness in the gel. I asked the guy about it and he said" looks like they need to clean their mold cause it is suppose to be non skid"???? Looked to me where there is a insert for a bow rider??? Worst finish I have seen on a boat.

Re: Powerquest Factory
There is a small square pattern in the molds for the decks for the Sun cuddys. It is not intended to be the smooth finish that would be similar to the sides of the boat. There would not be an insert for the mid cabin, they are separate molds.
Again, personal preference. There are plenty of boats with smooth finished decks on them. |

Interiors are all done by McLeod now. Have been for a couple years. But I agree with you on the non McLeod interiors, I did not like them either. That's probably why most people took the upgrade, and in the end that is all they offer now. I know PQ also had an option to upgrade to McLeod, but most of them I have been in use the factory interior. I really liked the factory interior in my PQ. |

NO Performancemary....... I didn't go into a cave,I have been reading all of the replies.I go past PQ everyday and no action around there and the sign on the door says closed. They had very high warranty issus and they lost a couple of big dealers because of warranty coverage. I know the prior owners of PQ and they told me that they were having quaility issuses and won't last long????.There is a guy here in town that has had the steps repaired numerous times due to stress cracks and that maybe because of running in lake michigan versus an inland lake.I have owned three formulas and never had a claim on either of them nor did the previous owners. 357SR1man

I do know the Regnier's. I am on the Fire Department with Linda's husband Don. They have been boating with us in the past and they were in the pit with us last summer. I ended up trading in my 34 in December and bought a 05 38'. It is the boat that Rich refers to in his post. I have had my eye on that boat since it was delivered to Riverview and I could not pass it up any longer. Tim |

I was just telling my wife that you were on this site and she thinks she has a photo of your boat. It is a sharp boat and I am a fan of burgundy. Tim |

Re: Powerquest Factory
Anyone have a contact person for the sale/purchase of Powerquest? A few months ago we purchased Awesome Powerboats. We are looking for a v-hull line to operated under its own banner. Last summer I examined a number of Powerquests at their LOTO dealer's. I was impressed with fit/finish, large cockpit & cabin and all the other attributes mentioned on this thread by current and past Powerquest owners. I witnessed the performance of both Wally's and Pwrqust's boats on Lake Clinton last fall. Both had impressive speed and handling. I find it hard to comprehend Powerquest having problems considering the product and loyal customer base. If anyone has any information please call me at 314-496-6701. Dan

Re: Powerquest Factory
Addiction, When did you purchase your boat. I was hangin with the riverview boys at 04 SOTW and almost traded my 02 avenger for your boat, but I can't imagine it took that long to sell your boat. We could not quite come to terms on the deal and I wasn't that motivated becuase I have so many extras on my boat. I really wanted the 525's but during the run I realized that it was not alot faster than mine with 500's A very nice boat though with a lot of thought going into the spec by the riverview boys.
We had a lot of fun with those guys at 04 SOTW and they won the ten grand with your boat. I think they scared the hell out of Mandy during the run. For the record I have never consided myself a formula wannabe. I had certain expectations for my boat and a certain amount of money to spend. What i got in return was a roomy, fast, and affordable performance boat with no cracks or flaws in the hull after 145 hours on lake michigan and two SOTW poker runs. |

Migpilot, I just bought the boat in December. It only made two poker runs in its life and when it ran SOTW the paint was barely dry. I was in the boat this summer and it ran 83 all day and we had it up to 85 at one point on GPS. I would guess that it would run pretty close to yours since the HP difference is not all that much ~50 horse. I was amzazed that they still had the boat also. They had several interested parties but no one ever came up with the cash. I have the photos from that run and if that was Mandy in the back seat she looked scared. Tim |
