What year and what engine? If it's got a 500EFI I remember when it was built. Several were built with that graphic/color scheme, but only a few had 500's.

Was that boat for sale on ebay? I think I saw it on there?

Fast Forward 10-30-2006 08:06 PM

Re: Anyone know this 28?

It was on ebay last week. Went up to $25,100 and failed to meet reserve.
According to that listing it had a 502.

Hi Dave, Sparkyrick here (WiParty). Nice boat :D I just got it back from winterizing and my mechanic said the motor and drive were in excellent condition. I had him pull the drive and check the u-joints and drive shaft. Now I just need a chainsaw to get her into the garage. Garage is 46' deep, but the door is too low. Having a builder friend of mine come over this weekend and see how big of a check I get to write to him too.

Re: Anyone know this 28?

Good to hear, can you let the air out of tires to get her in?

MacGyver 11-04-2006 12:52 PM

Re: Anyone know this 28?

No, I have an older house with a 16X7 garage door. If I raise the header and change it to a 16X8, I should be able to get her into the garage and save storage fees.

I have a 270 Laser and believe I needed 8' 6" in order to get it into my father in law's barn. We put in a 9' foot door. Good Luck.

Re: Anyone know this 28?

If I lay the tongue down to the ground, I have about two inches to spare. I wish I could keep it hooked to the truck and back it in. I'm not even sure if I can push the boat & trailer by hand yet

Fast Forward 11-07-2006 05:02 PM

Re: Anyone know this 28?

Get some buddies over and place the tongue on a skateboard. That way you will still be able to roll it. I can push my 26 as long as I'm on good level pavement. Notice I didn't say how far :D :D .... By the way what kind of speed does that run with the 502??

I'm gonna get one of those 4 wheeled carts you push cars around on (one 4 wheeled cart under eack wheel of a car). Then bolt an old hitch to the cart to make sure the tongue doesn't slip off the cart and make me spill my beer. :evilb: As for top speed, I don't know yet. I just bought her and never got to see the water this year. From what I'm hearing, I can expect mid 60's.

Re: Anyone know this 28?

Well before you tuck it away you should take advantage of these nice days and se what she'll do.

One thing to remeber when attemping to move a boat. Be sure to place the beer in a safe location. The boat and house can always be repaired.

A 280 will run mid-60's with a 502 - speaking from experience here ;)

I would love to take her for a spin, but I have winterized it already :( So I'm gonna have to wait until spring.

that's going to be a long winter in Appleton :evilb:

Re: Anyone know this 28?

I don't know that one, but I have one just like it-- A 28 with the 502EFI. Same colors but not the name. I bought it earlier this year in Appleton,Wis. Runs great on Lake StClair, MI. Love the boat, great in the rough. Running a 28p 4 blade Bravo at 4900, just above 70mph, 2 people and 1/4 gas. He got a good deal at the 38 number.
see you on the water :evilb:

That's funny, I live in Appleton and had to go to Illinois to buy this boat! Can't wait to hit the water in six fricken months  I agree Dave, it's gonna be a looooong winter this year.

Downtown42 11-16-2006 06:35 PM

Re: Anyone know this 28?

Let's just all say 70+ mph....It sounds better that way anyhows :evilb:

60's and below is cruisers speed. :chimp:

Re: Anyone know this 28?

That is 70 with the EFI engine. The paint was an option for the 2001s. How many days til it gets warm??

MacGyver 11-17-2006 07:44 AM

Re: Anyone know this 28?

Before Thanksgiving, we don't count the days until it gets warm, we count the months  . Probably won't see 60F+ until May 2007. Lets just say we have a short boating season in Wisconsin.

I decided to wait until spring to raise the garage door and header. So in order to get her into the garage this fall with my existing 7' door, I removed the windshield and dropped the tire pressures down to 18 PSI. It took two guys to roll her, but she did clear the low door. After I cleared the door, I filled the tires back to 60 PSI. I couldn't believe how easily she rolled. Easier than my old 21' on a tandem axle trailer. Next spring, I'll raise the garage door header and life will be good :D Right now, the garage has (1) 28' boat, (1) 21' boat, (1) 8.5X10 snowmobile trailer and (1) 4X4 extended cab truck in it. One full toy box. As for the company truck, that can sit outside in the turn-around for now!

Did you buy Jons' 280 ? He put alot of time and effort to get it really dialed in.

Yeah, I saw that boat on Ebay. I bid on but never met the reserve. Its a nice boat. I'm in the same shoes, just picked up a 270 with a 502 on ebay and she's in storage. Never even got to hear her run let alone put her in the water. Good luck getting it in the garage....

Re: Anyone know this 28?

yes, I did buy Jon's boat, I think he got every mph possible out it.

Mac,We have two '01 280s in our club down here.Mine is painted just like yours except with a 548.The other is the 502,completely stock runs 67-68+.Great boat, great price! Have fun. BOB

Pete280 01-24-2007 07:42 PM

Re: Anyone know this 28?

bob, what speeds are you seeing with a 548? Any issues with chine walking?

Bob280Silencer 01-25-2007 02:27 PM

Re: Anyone know this 28?

NotRight,I'm seeing 80-81 gps in lake Ponchatrain.Chine walk can be an issue at times, gotta stay on top of it and turn "into" it rather aggressively to stop it.What I don't like is the "lean" to port after 70(prop tq)Thinking about a 1" shorty? My 548 is making 650 hp with efi. BOB

Truttles77 01-25-2007 02:33 PM

Re: Anyone know this 28?

Anyone know what kind of speeds I cant expect out of a 270 with the 502 efi in it? Just got it and have not had it in water.... Cant wait til summer.

??????

Re: Anyone know this 28?

I had imco single ram hydraulic steering on my silencer. Seemed to help a lot with handeling issues at speed. 454 mag mpi and the boat ran about 66-67. needs k planes to handle a little better. The bennets are worthless. 70 is realistic for a 502 boat with a labbed prop. I ran a 24 merc 4 blade.

I had a 98 270 with a 454 mag, so 30 HP less than you are running. Ran about 61 0r 62, speedo showed higher, as they all do.

Pete280 01-26-2007 05:35 AM

Re: Anyone know this 28?

In flat water mine seems to get a little squirely at around 67-69. I have an add on single ram HD steering.

This winter I replaced my 12x12 Insta Tabs with 12x16 Insta Tabs, I am also redoing the gimbal ring, which had quite a bit of play in it. It should be much better.

Bob, is that your boat in this months Hotboat? there is a write up on a poker run in New Orleans, one of the pics has a 280 Silencer in it.

Fast Forward 02-14-2007 11:04 AM

Would that be the March issue? I noted there looked to be a 28 in the Powerboat issue last month at a poker run also.
